-36C without the wind chill here this morning.  It's been highs of -31, lows of -40 for the past week.  The wind chill is a nonsense number at this temperature.  The good news is that the skies are clear and there's no snow in the forecast.

Whew! -36??? That is some kind of cold - that's the kind that hurts your face even if you're only out to get the paper.....that's Arctic cold.

We had -4 (-20C) last night but it should warm way up to the mid teens for us later today.

Our neighbors came over real early this am and cleared the drive, sidewalk and front steps - they are some kind of good people!

A little later I'll broom off the cars and get that part of the drive cleared so she can use her car, I can't think of anyplace I need to go right now! Garage got colder that I've ever seen it last night - right at 32* - I was concerned because I have a lot of stuff in there that can freeze - it normally stays around 40 in winter.

BRRR. Matthew.

It's "warmed up" here.  Got to -27°C with the wind chill (actual was around -17°C) with moderate winds and snow.
Now it's currently -14°C, windy and snowing pretty good.

I think we'll get "every inch"(haha) of that 30cms they're calling for. (Metric joke)

Tractor will get a work out first thing tmw morning once it's all done.

30 minutes in a Mini is more therapeutic than 3 sessions at the shrink.

MiniDave

Do you have a blower or a blade on the tractor?

I think Matthew goes by "Spitz" on here.  I'm yet another guy with a Mini in Saskatchewan.

My time in the tropics is coming to an end. Shorts and short sleeves no more.  If I didn't have a mountain of things to do at home I'd just stay here another week.

MiniDave

It's actually going to be pretty nice here later in the week, mid -50's for us so probably even warmer for you.....in fact if you can delay it till Thursday, you'll come home to 60's and 70's!

It feels like a real Canadian winter here for a change. I hadn't driven the Jeep (2010 Liberty) for over a week and the weather turned properly cold. It is currently -18C and was -21C when I got up at 8:00 AM. And then there's wind chill. So realistically the Jeep engine was probably about -25C.

Yesterday, I was going for beer and the Jeep would only make a few grumpy "Don't even think about waking me up" noises. The solenoid worked and the starter could only muster a half revolution on the V6, if at that.

This morning I ventured out to see what could be done. (The Jeep lives outdoors.) Still no start, so into the garage to search for the battery charger I probably have not used in 25 years or more. Found it! The next challenge was to uncoil an extension cord to plug in the battery charger.

I did have a cursory look for a block heater cord which typically would be visible inside a front corner of engine bay. No luck there. But once the battery charger was humming, I had a deeper dive. Since the Jeep has been pretty well behaved, I was not really familiar with the V6, so had a closer look at it.

There... lo-and-behold... on top of the engine under a collection of tubes and wires was a flat 3-wire extension cord style bundle of wire with a factory installed zip tie and a covered 3-prong plug on the end. That'd be where it was tucked during assembly of the engine and had never been touched since.

So, now the charger is plugged into one garage outlet and the block heater into another. I'll leave it for a few hours
"Hang on a minute lads....I've got a great idea."

Yeah, it' supposed to be 70 (+21C) here tomorrow - I have plans to take the Audi over to JP's and wrap the Honda Rodent Proof Tape all over the wiring harness. I still have some things that aren't working quite right, so I'm hopeful I can find where the farking bastiches got into it and get it fixed. If I can't find it I kinda hate to wrap up the harness in case I have to take it back to Audi for another round......if I do I'm filing an insurance claim.

I opened the hood on the white car and found masses of nut remains and such all over the engine compartment. Maybe I should use the HRPT on it since it's all working perfectly.

My cars both started just fine when it was -5F (-21C) here last week or so, I guess running that 5W30 synthetic oil helps it turn over.
