Drove home to KC from Tucumcari, with a stop off at dan's shop. I had planned to stay the night near Dan's shop, but I got there earlier than anticipated and I decided I'd had enough of the hotel life for a while, so I just drove the last 4 hours home. I'm beat. I did start seeing signs of the storm about 2 hours south of home, and by thew time I got to the outskirts of KC I was finding icy patches, but I got home OK. I had 2" of snow on the car this morning in Tucumcari, but it was dry powder and blew off the car as soon as I got moving. it was also only 27*. I t was only about 37 at Dan's shop but 17 here when I got home!

Our neighborhood streets haven't been plowed yet, and other than the huge ruts from people driving thru,  it's a proper mess. Good thing I have an Allroad.

The bride was able to get out of the 'hood and take Remo to the vet for his follow up appointment, and she also got to the store, tho the shelves are still bare of some things.

We're supposed to get over an inch of snow today.  Decided to take a weather day and stay home in case the roads are bad till the plows do their thing.  Not that an inch is a ton, but people here crash left and right when the roads are icey.

We ended up with several inches.  I ventured down to the truck to check things out.

We're going to have 3 days in the low 40's then it's going to hit - hard! Highs in the single digits......lows down to zero. Then by next weekend it should slowly ramp back up to the low 30's.

I'm not looking forward to it at all.....I have a heart doc appt Monday when the high will be 9*

Teenage me saw that as an opportunity to do many donuts in the snow everywhere.

Funny story,

When I was 18 some friends had come to visit us on eastern Long Island from Pennsylvania. A year prior I had purchased their sons 1968 Mustang, it had a 302 swapped in with a 4 speed.  Sunday morning the son and I left first to head to church after a night of snowfall. Maybe 4 inches fell. I was drifting the Mustang all the way to church, I even did some donuts in 1 or 2 intersections I do not think I ever went in a straight line until I got to the main roads that were plowed.

Stupid 18 y/o me didn't stop to think my parents would be following me a few minutes after I left.  The other family was in the car with my dad and the father was dying laughing at my tire tracks in the snow. I was told when he saw the donuts he about died laughing.

My father was not so amused, when he walked into church he headed straight for me, grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into a private room where he read me the riot act. I was grounded for a week after that.

Looking back, if that were me following one of my sons?  I would have been laughing too.

This is our car summer in Florida, ya'll go on all your drives int he spring summer fall and hide them for the winter, we take them out in the winter. Its been amazing here, 50's at night and 60's during the day.  I have the E30 today, because I have not driven in since getting the Mini in October.  I plan on tucking it away Sunday and taking the mini out next week.

Supposed to hit 60 here today before dipping back into the teens this weekend. Was thinking great day for a walk along the river, but of course it's so windy it may as well be 30 degrees outside.

I thought you guys were in California?

We're going to get a spike of warmth today, up to 50* they say! Tomorrow's high will be 20*, and it will be single digits for a few days after that before going back to the low 30's. I'm not a fan of winter, tho I do like the crystal clear blue skies we get on days like today.....

-4 this morning, the boys were quick about their business......even tho they have fur coats on I don't think they're really keen on the cold either. Some warm shoes for their paws might help but I think out and back in quickly is a better choice.

About this time every year I get very tired of winter.....I think I need to start spending a few winter months at my son's place in Az. When I was there a couple weeks ago it  was 81*......the end of January is car week too....all the major auctions are on, so there's lots of cool car stuff to see around town. Usually Jan and Feb are the worst here - super cold, lots of depressingly grey days.....If I had a nice big toasty warm shop I could go play in that might make things go more easily, but I don't. My son does tho - in Arizona!

Get a little place out there. I lived in Green Valley just south of Tucson a few years and that's where all the retired snow birds came for the winter.

MPlayle

San Antonio got a light dusting of "snow" overnight.  With the bright sun now out, it is rapidly disappearing.

MiniDave

We talked about selling this house and buying a condo or renting one, 6 months in the winter in Phoenix, and 6 months in the summer in the mountains of North Carolina.....I think Rose would go nuts tho, nothing for her to do, having to learn where all the shopping is, traffic in the big city.....

That's the beauty of the green valley area. No traffic.  30 minutes to Tucson. A few hours and easy drive to Phoenix to see your family.

-29C (-20.2F)here this morning...Even for me that's cccold.

Hope the BINI will start)

Pretty cold for the maritimes.  Balmy -10C this morning in the middle of the prairies.  Monday morning it was -36C.  Last week it was above freezing.  It's been a winter of wild temperature swings.

MiniDave

Yeah, we're supposed to get one day of 40's, then back to the freezer!

Sheesh, it's acting like it's winter out there or something! 17* today and we got about 5" of powder last night, with about the same coming in the next few days, and temps into the basement. Looks like we're in for about 10 days of brutal full on winter.....

Da boiz are NOT happy about having to traipse out into snow deep enough to drag their bellies across in order to find "the spot", Neo danced around for about 5 min before he finally said fuck it and dropped his load. Remo will wait till later TYVM.

Once the bride gets up she'll go out and stomp out some trails (she likes doing this) with little cul de sacs which they quickly figured out are the preferred bathroom spots. Makes it a little easier when the snow melts to find the poopsicles to pick up too.....

Next winter I'm going to go to Phoenix for the month of Feb - I'm tired of this crap!

Edit: Looking at the weather guesser's site, we could see 40 on Sunday followed by a week of single digit lows and highs around 10* F......Come on March, give me some F1 to distract me....

Is it as bad time to mention it was 79° today.

I took the Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway back stopping at a little bistro for lunch had all the windows open on the FJ Cruiser the entire trip.

We had some pretty cold weather in January this year, Feb has been very warm, March is usually bad, as I have said many times, God likes to punish the spring breakers in March. We typically get horrible weather.*

Which pales in comparison to what you guys are dealing with.

We got another 6" of powder snow, so today I went out in the 7* sunshine and scraped the driveway and cleared off the cars. We don't have anyplace we need to go but I like to have things available at least. The city plow truck came thru and blocked the drive again so I'll need to go out one more time today - need to do it today cause tonight it's going down to -10-12* and it will be frozen rock hard tomorrow.

Good news is on the horizon tho......the weather guessers say it should warm up starting Sunday and be in the 60's all next week. I'm ok with that!

Of course the following week it will probably snow 3 feet!

We had a minor ice storm before the snow storm.  Currently 13 degrees outside.  Waiting for the roads to improve before I attempt going anywhere.

Roads look to be good enough on the highway to try and make a trip to the shop. The condensation that forms from the heat on the inside of my condo actually froze up on the inside of the windows I had the sun shades down on!

MiniDave

I'll be curious how cold it is in the shop when you get there, and how long it takes to get it warm enough to work.

I don't know how cold it got last night, they were guessing down to -10, but now it's all the way back to 1* and supposed to get into the teens by this afternoon. We're def into a warming trend, today's high will also be tonight's low and by Sat it should be warm enough for me to get back into the shop, with an afternoon high of close to 40!

Next week should melt all the snow we got as it's supposed to hit 60 by Monday and stay close to that temp all week - I'm so looking forward to that!

It takes awhile because it's cold soaked.   I'm caught up running errands and things like taxes this morning. Might not make it out today afterall.
