I am now getting an error that the HTTPS cert is not trusted/valid.  This is probably due to the certificate appearing to be self issued rather than being issued by a trust certificate authority.

I disabled the firewall temporarily so members can login till I hear more from Godaddy.  Some can login and some can't with it enabled.

With the firewall turned off, I can get onto the forum like normal.

I don't get any errors or certificate warnings.

cstudep

Whether or not you get the certificate/secure warnings probably depends on your browser and how the security settings for it are set up.

I work in Cyber Security, so my browsers are fairly nailed down!

cstudep

same here, don't work in cyber security but my browsers are also pretty nailed down. It really does not want me visiting this place with the firewall down LOL.

I would not recommend leaving the firewall off for to long.  It is a fundamental part of the website security and the rest of the site will be at risk of an attack if the bad guys identified this is down.

Yeah don't plan on it.  If I don't get something back from them by the end of the day I suppose your expertise will be required.  I'm not savvy enough to know what to do on my end, or even sure it's something that's on my end at all.

MPlayle

Just give me an email "heads up" when you put the firewall back up and I will let you know if the error returns since I seem to be the most susceptible to getting the error.

I run Firefox for my browser and usually run with it set for strict protection.

94touring

Will do.  I'm back on an airplane and headed to work for a couple weeks.  I've been ridiculously busy in general and this is the last thing I feel like dealing with.

94touring

Firewall back up.  Sent in some more info to Godaddy.  We'll see...

This is promising, the daily hits is back down to normal levels.  Before it was upwards of 19k daily which is not normal.  I think Mplayle is still unable to get access however.

cstudep

That definitely seems more reasonable just based on the average posting here in a day. I wonder if Mplayle has something on his end that is preventing him from getting in. Maybe suggest he temporarily install another browser to see if that makes a difference? I would recommend Brave since he said he uses firefox in a pretty strict protection mode. Brave is a privacy-focused open-source browser based on the Chromium web browser, it automatically blocks online advertisements and website trackers and what not. I switched to it a year or 2 ago I think when I started having problems with firefox and haven't looked back.

Being based on the chromium browser it also uses the chrome add ins. They also recently added their own Beta search engine which is also privacy based, it's not super robust yet but is improving.

MPlayle

With the firewall back up, I cannot get in using the latest Firefox.  I get "403 - Forbidden Access" errors now.

I can get in using the latest Safari for OS-X Catalina.

(What I am using to post this.)

94touring

Good.  I think with the hits back to normal we won't see the 502 timeouts again.

MPlayle

I will adapt to using Safari to access the forum from now on.

That should save the effort of trying to figure out why the failures and issues when trying to use Firefox.

I will probably migrate most of my usual browsing as well.

More surprises:

I wanted to show a work colleague some of the thread on my blue Window Van today while on a Skype conference.  I was using my work computer running Window-10 and tried with the Edge browser and was getting forum based "Timeout" messages trying to log in.

So I tried Firefox on that machine and it worked fine!   8.gif

I then came back over to my Mac to do regular stuff and tried Firefox and lo-and-behold, it is also now working fine!   8.gif

Did GoDaddy finally fix something?

They went through and did some stuff.  The main thing being the bazillion hits per day went back to normal levels.  I haven't had any errors in several days and appears all the regulars are able to login.

I still have trouble logging in on my phone usually sending me to another site but my tablet works fine.

What website would that be?

I am most surprised that your workplace is still using Skype!

That would be while the firewall was down. I can run the malware software again just to make sure it's all clean.

I got a blank page after trying to log in using Firefox just now.  I had entered my username and password and when it should have come up with the main page of the various board,  it was just a blank page.  Same result on a second try after closing the browser to clear cookies, history, and cache.

Switched to Safari and got in and to the regular forum pages fine.

MPlayle

And today it is back to working just fine with Firefox.
