So I understand some of the Type 2s in Brazil had the later bay window front sheet metal but the earlier split window rear Type 2 sheet metal combined in a unique Brazil-only package.  Is yours like that?  What year is it?

I'm not too familiar with all the differences but here's the rear end.  It's an 83.

BruceK

Oh yeah. I'm not VW expert but that looks like a weird mix of older and newer.  I see the bigger, later taillights but the narrower engine cover and hatch combined with the wraparound rear windows.

And the roof gutter looks really thick compared to the German ones.

It was my understanding they had the old tooling and parts and just made it all kind of come together on production.

This was another one of their cars that caught my eye, 1973 vw variant.  13.7k delivered.

BruceK

That looks similar to the VW 412 (and 411) sold here in the early 1970s.

I think the Type 2 you're getting is a lot cooler.

Oh for sure.  If I had unlimited money I'd be buying all this stuff lol.  This is a 71 VW TL for 12.7k shipped, which looks very similar to that 412.

You shouldn't have done that.

I know, it's a problem.  I'm like what if I don't stop painting cars so I can keep buying cars  20.gif  8.gif :-[

Way cool!

I spent some time with air cooled vw stuff mostly in dune buggies. Turbos work well The engines can hold up quite well if not better than a POS subaru I don't get that conversion at all. But then again I don't like vtec minis much either but at least you might be adding reliabily in the latter.

Hot rod that air cooler and it'll run at least as long as a timing belt and head gaskets last in a subaru. And just about equal amout of work and money to completey rebuild the VW engine as pulling maintance on a subaru.

We turbod a customers 74 bus about 15 years and 80k miles ago even kept the efi with a new ecm still running strong nothing but oil changes. You can do a lot naturally asperated as well.

Im sure there are parts suppliers everywhere but I have had great support from this place cool guy knows his stuff. https://www.doghouserepair.com/store/categories/

Cool thanks for the link.  Keep comparing heads trying to decide to upgrade what I have or just add dual springs.  Probably better to do the upgrade and be done with it.

VW camping is great. My wife and I have had a few over the years.
These are pictures from our honeymoon 37 years ago. We came close to recreating the trip in the Traveller last year.

That kind of camping is great when you're young, the heat doesn't bother you so much and it's fun.

When you get older, a shower and A/C become a lot more important! We're looking at motor homes, and on the "must have" list now is a bath and a half - imagine that?!?!?!?

Cbperformance is the company who makes the ignition kit that's similar to the aldon kit I just put on the mini.  I should have bought 2 of them, 1 for the mini and one for the bus.

Regarding ac and showers.  We don't camp anywhere without showers and if we don't have ac it has to be cool out.  Adding shore power will allow for a small portable ac unit if we end up someplace hot.

So we seem to be downsizing the wrong direction. The heat can be a issue.
This is a picture my wife took in Wyoming at a KOA, something over 100, no trees, no shade in campsite, but a large community shaded area, definitely catered to the RV crowd...
