Some people just can't parallel park.

So I was parallel parked on our Main St a couple weeks ago and a woman from Maryland decided to center punch my drivers door.
She was backing into the space behind me, which was big enough to park a bus.
"I didn't see the car" Lady you pulled past the car to park so you obviously saw it.
I was, as they say, a bit pissed off, but was pretty calm while I waited for the police. What pissed me off the most was she didn't
apologize for tagging my car.
Insurance estimate is $1700 basically I gave the adjuster a quote from Minispares for a door, weather stripping, window regulator, and freight
and he just copied and pasted it into the software.

Ordered a new door and some other bits so now I have another winter project....

Good grief! At least all she managed to get was the door. In the grand scheme of things it is the easiest thing to fix.

Some people just should not be allowed to drive

👎👎👎 bummer George. I forget, have you had to do body work on it before?

Is that door frame bent up or is it limited to the skin?  Transferring the guts over?

The frame is bent enough that it leaks a bit. The window was up when she hit it so the glass is still good but the regulator is bent. I ordered all the bits, except the glass, to put it back together. Finding a body shop to do the work is the bigger problem, not many shops that want to do "restoration work" out here on the sand bar.

That sucks completely......I swear the level of driving skill has gone down considerably in the 50+ years I've been on the road......driving well used to be something people felt pride about, now it's just an appliance to get you where you want to be, and never mind anyone else.

Yup, and we have to pay for it. My daily was hit in the driver door last year. Parked in the street and someone in a Jeep backed into it while exiting his driveway from across the street in a quiet residential neighborhood. Better my car than a kid on a bike I guess.

Minispares delivery. I ordered both doors, a hood, and a bunch of other stuff. It got to me in under a week.
I also found a shop to do the paint work that actually has done some mini's, they redid a V-Tec mini that looks like
a clone of my car. They were recommended by the local British car club. Lots of hotrod stuff but had a nice MGB in process, and
they were just car guys no busting my balls about the clown car. Looks like mid-November to start the work.

MiniDave

One thing I like about Spares, they get your stuff to you quickly!

Finding a competent body shop is a big part of the battle.....

So the paint and body work are just about done. I need to decide if I want to spend even more money and paint the roof, it has a small dent in it and they couldn't cut and buff the shadow from the Union Jack sticker I had on it out. It's nice and shiny but you can still see the outline a little.
I've spent all of my double secret money on getting it this far so.....

ADRay

Lookin' good.

is the plan to reapply the Union Jack and / or stripes?

No stripes or Union Jack, going with a clean look this time, the paint is really nice.

Nice. I found it made basic design features and the little chrome bits stand out a lot more after I scrubbed my roof.

Can't wait to see it.

Is that tahiti blue? I like the color combo....

Do you ever come to any of Guido's runs (Classic Minis United)? It would be fun to meet up with a bunch of Restoration members again, we did it one year - I think about 10 of us were there. The next one is in early April in Gatlinburg....

I'm not sure what color it is. I think it may have been repainted originally to be Tahiti blue or a close approximation. When I did some touch up a few years back the match was to a Honda color supermarine blue pearl.
This paint definitely looks deeper and has more metallic flake than it did before.

I have one more year (or 381 days) working before I'll have time to do any traveling and car stuff, another joy of owning your own business.
TN is a haul from up here in the north east, definitely wouldn't drive the mini that distance along the eastern seaboard, it would need to be a trailer ride for the car.

bikewiz

My car is back from the painter.
It looks really good. They redid the roof with a white with blue pearl.
Now the hours and hours of putting it back together.

Nice. I can smell the fresh paint from here.
