bounced over to working on the electrical issues at the moment, specifically the new reverse lamp switch I installed. Originally, I set it similarly to the old one when it was on the bench, and it didn't work.

I'm trying to reinstall it per instructions from Mini Forum (see pic) but I've found that it bottoms out in the port on the side of the gear change case without engaging the switch button.

Ive tested it with a test light and battery and it's functional.

Anyone have this issue before?

There is supposed to be a "button" between the switch and the rod it engages with - mine was missing so I made one out of a drill bit. Cut the end off and rounded it over by hand on the bench grinder. Seems to me it wound up being 1/4" x 1/2" long but I might be mis-remembering.

thanks Dave. at the risk of looking like an idiot (please have a laugh at this) I figured out the cause of the problem - the receiver for the gear lever had rotated 180 degrees while I had it out of the car. I didn't realize bc I never had to crack open the case.

Reverse lamp now in good order, and it shifts better too 😬
