Alright well I just tried doing some powder coat, created a bit of a mess.  Came out pretty thick I guess, and didn't exactly stick on the entire surface.  Going to have to keep playing around with it to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

macmanron

It all worked out with the chrome shop, I bought a set from someone on the MM board, and sent my bumper, corner bars, and over-riders to the chrome shop in exchange for them losing my latches. I haven't done much on the Woody since the last post! I did some powder coating tonight, seat brackets, Rod change rod(upper) , plate on bottom of rod change housing, and I did the switch panel in a Great looking grey! Can't wait to see it with all the switches on it! Gonna go down this week and mess with the subbys. Taking the Woody to be blasted as soon as the new year begins!

Mike, I didnt see your wood question, but no, I need the wood!!!  You have a kit to sell????? Cheap, for the father of twins, who has very little to spare on cars!

94 : You have to set your air compressor to lower amount of pressure, we use a pancake type compressor set low, and then you need to play with the amount of powder that shoots out also. Just trial and error really. I should have said that you need to " hang" the parts you are doing by a metal wire from the over rack, rather than to just lay it on the rack. Most things you can do by hanging.

Cool man, yeah I figured out what I was doing wrong.  Haven't done anything else with it in awhile though, need to buy some different powder at some point and start cleaning up all the small parts I have laying around.

Hey meant to ask on your heater panels how do you go about printing off the words (on, heater, off)?  Some kind of stencil that you powder coat on or something else?

macmanron

I hand screen print the lettering on the faceplates. It is enamel screen printing ink. Just like printing a t-shirt, just smells a little different!!! I spoke to my Sand blast guy and it looks like next week will be when I take it over to him. I am wondering what I should have done, other than just the shell??? I think I may pick out the best of my doors and start doing the bodywork on them. I have one that has the holes for the cooper s trim, and need to decide if I will go that route with the other door? I think it would look nice with the extra brightwork?  Also, I have some 12"  stock mini wheels, minilight style, and I am thinking of using them. They are free, and would look ok after I cleaned them up and coated them. I would rather have some S wheels 10" on it, but I am trying to go low-budget on this car.

Latest work: Got the Steering wheel from a chevy truck dealer somewhere in the mid-west! It was in need of refinishing:

Was going to say have them do your subbys in the blasting if they need it.  What size wheel is that anyways?

macmanron

It's a 14" dished wheel. The subbys just need some cleaning and a coat of chassis black.

Ok, so the Woody goes to get blasted on Sunday. I need to start ordering all the bits to do the subbys. Where would you suggest I get all of it?? Overseas or here in the states???

If I order large quantities of parts I go over seas, its just cheaper in the end usually.  Sometimes I can buy extra parts and shipping doesn't go up, you just have to play with the numbers.

When will it be back? Anxious for before and after report. If only winter would break so I can get back in the garage. But inside house projects are better for it. Oh what am I saying. I have an engine and transmission on the bench to assemble.

I dropped it off, and he said he had a couple more things to do first. No problem, not in a hurry. I am going down to pops and get my subbys on sat. , or I will never do them! Out of sight out of mind.

Did some scraping and some wire brushing today just for a short time between shirt jobs. Man, now it's hard to do my work with the subbys at the shop looking at me! Here is just one tower cleaned up, with some Ospho on it. I actually think I might be able to get the front subby in my pop's blast cabinet. It's worth a shot.

Gave in and is getting the subby's blasted by a guy I go to church with. He restores old tractors. He has some other stuff to primer, and then paint with some hard enamel paint, so he will do my subbys at the same time. Still waiting on the other guy that is going to blast the woody. No hurry. I have an order put together at minisport-usa, and it is a big one.  The shipping is the expensive part, but I don't think the shipping would be much cheaper over here!

Minisport is the way to go.

Any luck with your speedo cable yet?

macmanron

Wanted to out last night and work on it, but the TV won out!  I did get a basin wrench to try, and need to get out there and get it done!  My dad is going to try and pick up a cable at Spring Thing, and bring it back with him along with some other parts. I gave him a list, and hopefully I can save on the shipping a bit. THe woody is almost blasted, and should have that back by the weekend. Subbys should be done soon as well. I can't wait to get going on this thing!

Good deal.  I got home last night and have a few days off.  I may spend some quality time on my truck and try to get some things done as well.  If you need a pic of where/how the speedo cable attaches to the engine let me know, my engine is out with the cable still on.

MPlayle

Dan,  Spend so quality time with the GF too!    :-\

Just went to dinner and even won some money at the Casino.   4.gif

I went out to lock up the shop and then somehow started trying the speedo cable again. MAN, I don't know how anyone in the world except for maybe Plastic Man could get down there and get that thing off! I tried the Basin Wrench, but no go. I finally had to go from under the car and take out the bolt that holds the cover on. I was quite frustrated at that point! I pulled the whole thing out and then put the cover back on! Whew! Now all I need is a new cable.
