Back in 2012 I climbed up a hill and took this pic.

Then wandered away and took a piss. Then wandered further and found the Appellation Trail.  A few minutes later a hiker appeared, she seemed startled to see me then saw all of the cars as well as other people and we chatted for a couple of minutes. She told me she was on some practice hikes and was going to hike the entire length of the trail soon. She lived locally, I remember her telling me that.

She was a leathery older woman, in her 60's and I remember one of my friends pondering if she was packing heat.

I am about 90% sure this was her. Sad.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! -Hunter S. Thompson

That's a wicked sad story.  Maine sucks.   :(
