Water Pump Dowels

It looks like either the last engine rebuild did not use any dowels for the water pump or they stayed in the pump that I threw out. It seems most places are out of stock. An old block I have appears to be missing them as well. Do people just skip them?

Yes, later cars didn't even have them. The 4 bolts will line it up OK but as they get corroded I always use new bolts. 5/16 fine thread, 1 7/8" long for the long one (2" will work fine) and 1 1/4" for the short one.
