Thanks!

How important is it the K&N style?  I show everyone out including K&N themselves.

Otherwise any of these I show as a cross reference:

Thank you. As far as I can tell, all the cross references are more restrictive. I'm looking to open up air flow w/o any visual changes - so it has to fit within the current filter housing.

Hang on, I may have one......

nope, sorry....mine is an E-2601

Doesn't Vizard say the paper filters flow just as well? That's what I run on my green car.

Thanks, it's been for sale for a couple of months, but the shipping is a killer!

Yes they do, for the first 50 miles at least! Or here in dusty Colorado, more like 20 miles.

Jeggs might have them in stock.  Doesn't say out of stock like everyone else anyway.

MPlayle

JEGS has it shipped directly from K&N.  Since K&N is out, so will JEGS be out.

Yeah, I ordered in the hope they had some in stock. They took my money and did nothing with it, and just tell me "It's shipping next week" update every week. Shady.

Might want to reach out to KN.  I see they have a custom make your own filter option.  But also looking around more saw a couple places saying this filter is discontinued.  If it is discontinued and they want an arm and a leg to custom make one for you, I would end up buying one of the cheap paper style as a foundation, using that rubber top and bottom and then use Uni custom foam sheets and create my own high flowing filter.  Couple different ways you could do it.

For example this is for a VW.  It would need to be cut down/modified to get your dimensions right, but it's pretty close as is.

Another idea after googling what you're working with, is strategically removing the paper, and/or trimming back, but leaving enough of them in place to keep the unit as a whole rigid, and then use a foam wrap on the outside.

MPlayle

Is it for a dual carb setup like the factory box example Dan attached?

If so, could you consider a single oval filter that encompasses both intakes rather than a separate filter per intake?

If it is a single filter box (like the original on an 850 with HS2 carb), possibly another filter with the same inner diameter and simmilar outer diameter and cut it shorter to fit?

I believe the top and bottom of the box has various indents that wouldn't provide a seal for one large filter.  That pretty much requires having to use the tops and bottoms of the original filters. You could get pretty creative and use some aluminum plate and create a one piece top and bottom with cut-outs for the original rubber tops to attach, adhere, rivet, ect...however you want to do it. Then have one large custom filter that sandwiches in between the plates.  Wouldn't be oval the whole way since the intake entry needs a clearance.

MiniDave

Would this 2601 fit? I know it's smaller than the 9001, but maybe better than the paper in your environment? I believe it's for a small block motor?

It is for an 850 HS2.

For some reason it sounded like duals.  A single solution will be easier.

MiniDave

Well, the 2601 I have is for small blocks, let me know if you want it....it's brand new in the box.

I think the 9001 is for 1275's, esp the later ones with an HIF carb and air cleaner

The 9001 is meant for either the dual-filter box for twin carbs or the old style single HS2 air box for 850s.  The 2601 is for the larger, single air box used on the 998s with a HS4 carb.

The first picture is the old, small air box for the 850s using the 9001.  The second is the larger air boxes for the 998s using the 2601.

MPlayle

Could you get creative and make two from this one by cutting it in half and making a seal on the cut end?

https://www.knfilters.com/bm-0200-replacement-air-filter

The outer diameter dimension matches the 9001.  The inner is a bit larger and the height is a bit more than double that of the 9001.

MiniDave

I dunno, but this one I have is the smaller of the two sizes - it's about 4.5 ID and roughly 6 OD, so if that will fit the air box, he's set.

K&N lists the 9001 he needs/wants as: OD = 4.813" by ID = 2.125" by height = 1.750".

K&N lists the 2601 you have as: OD = 7.375" by ID = 6.125" by height = 2.188"

The BM-0200 I suggested cutting to height is: OD = 4.813" by ID = 3.125" by height = 4.500"  This is the same OD as what he is trying to find.  A slightly larger ID gives a bit of extra room around the carb throat that might conpensate for the different seal profile.  With careful cutting, you could potentially get two of the desired height from one BM-0200.

If this is for a single carb on an 850, this 2601 is 4 1/2 ID X 6 OD X 2 high, so it should fit a stock air cleaner box perfectly. it's sealed, in a correctly marked box and I got it from MiniSpares.

I don't need it so I'll make someone a good deal on it.

Do you want to sell it to me, or are you going to eventually use it? Thanks!
