Dave, your Beetle pulling out fromunder 3 feet of powdered snow reminded me of this:

Rock salt and/or brine are used here in Ottawa Canada, depending on temperature. They use the brine before the snowfall to keep it from freezing to the road, then dry salt during the snowfall to keep it flowing. When it is all over and the roads dry out, we are left with finely powders salt - the roads are white and the dust billows up wiht traffic. When the temperature gets to low for salt to work, they spread sand or stone grit.

Man, we are experiencing a frigid west wind tonight - we went out for dinner and almost froze just walking into the Texas Roadhouse! It says it's 28* but that wind feels more like 2.8*!

Weather.com says wind chill is currently 9, that seems about right! West winds of 22 gusting to 35MPH

I mean, I know it's winter and all, but whew it's cold taking da boiz out to do their bidness.....

They say we're supposed to get wind gusts in the 60's today but it's completely calm right now....

Supposed to be 70* on the 25th!

Well Canada left the door open yesterday, I woke up that morning it was 67 degrees out, by noon it was 37 and this morning it was 12! Sheesh, must be winter or sumthin......

Making plans to go to Phoenix for a few weeks now.....Probably end of Jan/early Feb, that's when it's the worst here both in temps and gray gloomy skies - very dispiriting weather to me.

What's this "80" thing??? It is -13 C here at the moment. With the wnd chill it feels like about -22.

Yeah it was really nice 3 or 4 days here. Had the shop door open and drove the classics with the windows down.

MiniDave

Well Dan, if it makes you feel any better it's -11C (11F) here, and we're considerably south of you!!!

By Sunday we should be back up to about 14-15C (58*F) tho

It's almost like Canada sent us all this cold air on purpose!!!    :cheesy:

I LITERALLY just excavated one of my cars (Subie) from nearly 1" of SOLID ice (plus snow). Took me over an hour to get it 80% free of ice (and some snow).

I now have my 2012 BINI running, warming up. Will have another go when it warms up in an hour. Currently -8°C here and it did the freezing rain trick here for 8-10 hrs yesterday.

No chance to snowblow the driveway. There's a tiny bit of snow here and there, but 95% of it is like concrete.

Oh the joys of Canada !

Believe it or not, it's above freezing up here in the Canadian prairies.  Up is down, down is up, dogs and living together, etc.

Yeah, we got freezing rain here too. Not much snow before and none after. I was a the church today and the overflow parking area had been plowed and was now a pretty decent rink, except for the slight slope. But hockey played right, that would give a home team advantage.
Gotta go out this afternoon and free the Jeep from its captivity

I don't mind snow at all.  Even the cold temps are "bearable" but hours and hours of freezing rain really suck.
POwer outages, cars sliding off the road, trees breaking, taking aprox an hour per car to "excavate" them, etc.

How is that even possible? Normally you guys in SK have us beat by at least -10° C (colder).

Hopefully you don't/didn't get the freezing rain Matt.
