As far as I know from the few documents I copied for references, all HIF cabs should have something similar for adjusting the jet.  They may not all be the "bimetalic" layered variety.

As Dan Moffet notes, they are actually like an upside-down 'T' recessed in the float bowl, so not all that obvious.

I wonder the same thing, I haven't had mine apart in a while so I just can't remember...

I don't know. It was likely a fuel economy requirement for vehicle manufacturers. My HIF44 came from Burlen as a replacement product and it had the bimetal piece. Later product "may" have had a plain one as a cost saving, but who knows? Mine came with the wrong throttle lever for Mini, but it did have both sizes of dashpot springs!
