So I have a analog Smiths oil pressure gauge. The supplied stainless braided line from MS is 48" long which is twice as long as it needs to be, so 24 or so inches are in a loop behind the dash. I've searched the net for custom length lines but fall into the "Google will only show you what they want hole" I believe the ends are 1/8 NPT or maybe 1/8 BSP, most everything I find is AN spec. Any suggestions? And to rant, why would MS supply a line that you could put the gauge in the backseat and still have extra?

Could you use either the nylon or copper tube kits and cut to your desired length?

Something along the lines of these at Autozone?

I thought about those but the original plastic line was leaking behind the dash which is why I replaced it with the braided line.
I would think a rigid copper line would eventually fail from the vibration and engine movement?

Seems like most gauges are 1/8" NPT, you can also get AN to NPT adapters and then just get AN hose in a shorter length.

Something like this?

a bit of a haul for you to Braintree, but Omni Hose might be able to make one for you. We used them for braided hoses when I was rebuilding proportioning machines.

I saw that one, I was trying to avoid adapters so I wouldn't introduce more places for potential leaks.

So following a search using different words from Mplayle's Autozone link I think I found what I'm looking for.
Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies does custom lines in the spec I want. I just need to measure the gauge to make sure of the thread spec, I think I can also eliminate one adapter at the "t" coming out of the block.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I'm glad you found a way to go, but just FYI I've used those nylon tubing kits from Autozone and they work just fine (I have one on my green car). The only issue I've ever had is the nylon is curled up so tight in the package that it's difficult to get it straightened enough to lay where you want it.

Tho I have to admit the braided lines look cooler!

Glad you found something and it's good to know there are other options. My experience with AN fittings is they almost never leak so I don't even consider that a potential leak point. You have the NPT fitting to deal with either way, which is definitely the most likely place for it to leak.

So I ordered the oil line from Pegasus it cost $49.72 with shipping (Some special deal for $10.99 via UPS 2nd day) not cheap but hopefully the correct length and fittings. The line from MS is $52.00 before shipping. If this line works I'll have a nice deal on a slightly long used oil line for sale.....

Received the oil line from Pegasus. It's exactly want I wanted and it came quickly. I can eliminate one fitting at the "T" on the block and as you can see from the photo it's 18" shorter, so no coil in the dash. I also picked up a silicone rocker cover gasket from them which although more expensive than the usual UK suppliers it's really nice quality.
If anyone is interested in my old line you can have it for $25 and I'll cover the postage.

I'll be curious to see how you like that rocker cover gasket. I put one on my car and it leaked like crazy.....but I was using it on an aluminium cover, not the pressed steel one. I glued it on with RTV so it didn't move but......I went back to cork.

I didn't have luck with silicone on my bus rocker covers either and went back to cork glued on.

I have a leak free silicone gasket on the rocker now but the engine builder said it was burnt at the back from a leak in the exhaust manifold and suggested I replace it, he supplied a cork one. The one I got from Pegasus is much softer than the one I got from MS. We'll see how it works.

Is the line coated or covered at all? those lines act like a saw on any thing they touch. Goodridge started coating them a few years ago.

The new one and the old one are bare stainless. Where it goes through the grommet in the firewall I had a section of heat shrink tubing over it and I had a "P" clip holding it to the clutch housing so it wouldn't move.

i remember buying an oil pressure line from AutoZone. i just found this on a search oil pressure line:

its copper and $18 and 6 feet long. fit my car. It's not stainless braided, but it fit, and I've seen some installations where they coil up the slack like a phone cord by the side of the head.

Since those line kits use compression fittings, I don't know why you couldn't just cut it to the length you need instead of coiling it up?
