Also, maybe I've got the Coronas, because I woke up at 2am very nauseous and eventually threw up. I've been on the couch all day too weak feeling to move.  Hopefully a bug that passes quickly cause it's hard to focus on studying like this.

Sounds like a run of the mill winter flu or bad cold.  Running a fever?  Maybe bad food?

Regardless, hope you feel better.

80% back to normal today.  The coronas can't stop me.   Not sure what happened yesterday but it sucked.

It's definitely made looking for quartz countertops more difficult as it was almost all Chinese made.  The other manufacturers just don't have the patterns right and it looks faked and it's over double the price of granite.

And yea, our stock is thoroughly infected by it, which is dumb because 70+% of our revenue is not personal consumer based.

Some gas stations here carry non ethanol.  I keep 5 gallons at the shop for the neighbor to mow our lawns with.  It is pricey though.

I'm celebrating that a brand new gas station opened up just 4 miles away from me that offers non-ethanol ('real') gasoline.   It's a full-blown QT convenience store gas station and the non-ethanol gasoline is offered as a choice on nearly all of their pumps.  The gas is 90 octane and it's priced reasonably at $2.59 per gallon. I've pumped it into my Mini, my Toyota truck, my motorcycle, and fuel cans for my gas-powered lawn equipment too.

I checked and other QT stores in the San Antonio area are also offering non-ethanol gasoline, so that's good news.   You can even use their locations Search feature and check the "No Ethanol" box to find QT stations that offer it.  https://www.quiktrip.com/Locations/Locations

Imagine that, nothing within a 100 mile radius of DFW.  Sucks cause QTs are popping up everywhere lately.

Very interesting,  I had a friend late last year Remodeled his home kitchen.. Had a few delays on the Quartz delivery... and was advised that  Tarriffs were also a part of shorter supply inbound to USA.  Suppliers cut back output. Now this seems to be a double whammy.   ( all hearsay, but validates a supply concern)

Jims5543

I needed to purchase a new Machete for my field crew, my new trick to is type the item I am looking for followed by made in USA into my Duck Duck Go browser.  Then shop based on the results.

I found some really nice options, I liked them so much I purchased 2 even though I already have a new one.
https://www.discountcutlery.net/ON8516-Ontario-Field-Machete_p_38130.html

My wife wanted a carabiner to put on the dog leash, I did the same, typed in Carabiner made in USA and found a company that makes them here, ordered 4 of them from them. More expensive than the Chineseium shit?  Yeah, except I am sure better made, will last longer and here is the kicker, I kept it here helping a company employ people here.
This looked like a great company to buy from:
https://cmigearusa.com/pages/about-us

I used to be an amazon whore. I am really trying hard to find things made here to purchase and exhaust all my options before giving in.

Regarding Quartz - we have a lot of marble / quartz / granite sellers here, yards full of product.  Have you searched to see if there are options will stock locally?

Using my amazing searching abilities.  ;D

I think this has been a wake up call, to me at least, to consciously shop for American made products.

I think this is also a wake up call to this country to start moving manufacturing back here.  We cannot control the health and sanitation of these communist countries. We need to stop pretending everything is peachy in China while we buy our cheap shit. I was in Harbor Freight a few months ago and I was actually bothered by it all, I would prefer to go home and search out a company here that is making a quality product and support them.  I am not virtue signalling here either, I just purchased a gas container, I am 99% sure it is Chineseium.

Let me just say these turn of events have opened up my eyes, if we, as a country expect to thrive, we need to create jobs here and not just be consumers.

O there are plenty of slab yards around the dfw area.  Just not a lot of options when the mrs. wants a mostly white top with just splashes of grey.  The best ones we keep finding are already sold, odd they are still displayed.  And they are marble, which all the contractors seem to keep pushing us and others away from.  Odd, I thought marble was the top of the heap.  3 more places this Sat. hope we find something.

5 Reasons to Stop Freaking Out About Coronavirus

Coronavirus is an "info-demic," a panic caused by the spread of partial and often misleading information about a health risk, sometimes deliberately.

The virus is real, and a small number of people have been infected. But it is going to pass.

It is an unpleasant respiratory illness, but it is not an organ-destroying horror like Ebola. Precautions are being taken, a vaccine will emerge, and life will continue as usual.

Here are five specific reasons to chill out.

1. Coronavirus is a familiar illness, and not as bad as others. It is from the SARS family — and less deadly. As Ha'aretz noted, "the mortality rate from the current disease ranges from 0.5 to 2 percent, and is significantly lower than the mortality rate from the 2002 SARS outbreak (9.5 percent) and much lower than the 2012 SARS outbreak (34.4 percent). It may even be close to the mortality rate from an ordinary flu outbreak in the United States."

2. The U.S. response has been exceptionally good. There have only been 16 cases thus far, none deadly. President Donald Trump bought precious time by stopping travel to China last month — a step critics said was overly drastic. Democrats are screaming about funding and staff cuts that never actually happened. The latest outrage: the White House is controlling the message. As they should! The people in lab coats are not always good communicators.

3. We are going to have a vaccine soon. There are private companies in the U.S. and around the world racing to develop a vaccine — not just because of the urgent public health need, but because whoever finds it first stands to make a lot of money. (This is where the profit motive, and the pharmaceutical industry, are so crucial — contrary to what Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, and other Democrats running for president have been saying about them.)

4. China is going to be all right. The number of cases in China sounds large — until you consider the size of China. True, the Chinese government has been duplicitous about coronavirus, as it is about everything. (Amartya Sen famously observed that India, unlike China, has never suffered famine because India has a free press.) And U.S. firms are learning a long-overdue lesson about the risks of investing there. But China will eventually pull through.

5. The same people who want you to panic about coronavirus want you to panic about everything. The news business thrives on chaos. In addition, the media want to destroy Trump, which is why they spread the Russia collusion hoax. Coronavirus is not a hoax, but pundits should be asked if they cared enough about flu — which kills far more people — to get their shot this year. If not, ignore them. Remember to wash your hands, and stay cool.

I also read when President Trump took office in 2017 he ordered the Pentagon to do an inventory in regards to how much of their military weaponry was sourced from China, it was over 50%!!

Jim, I'm happy to tell you that fact is 100% bullshit.  Not saying you didn't read it somewhere, but who ever reported that was wrong.  Federal Gubment and Military procurement rules are very strict on what you can buy, where you can buy it, and where it came from.  When I was stationed at Buckley AFB in Colorado, we had a vendor take back an entire pallet of VoIP telephones because after they arrived we found out they had come from China.  The vendor had to eat the cost of taking back the merch.

Jims5543

I was repeating what I read somewhere.  It was lumped into a comment that 90% of our antibiotics are made in China.  Looking around, the 50% may be an exaggeration, but the fact that we have anything supplied to our military from a foreign entity, especially one that is a foe is not a good thing.

My 5 minutes of verifying or debunking that statement came up with loads of articles that support the statement, it may not be 50% but it appears we do use them and we shouldn't at all.

https://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/congress/item/17358-obama-pentagon-waived-ban-on-chinese-parts-in-u-s-weapons
QuoteEven as top officials in the communist regime ruling over mainland China were spewing increasingly militaristic anti-American rhetoric — not to mention the Beijing-based dictatorship's massive espionage operations against the United States — the Obama administration reportedly waived laws prohibiting certain Chinese-made parts on U.S. weapons systems. Experts say the apparently unprecedented move represents a major national-security risk and is part of a troubling trend.

Among the biggest concerns expressed by critics of the waivers so far is the fact that Chinese manufacturers — much of the economy, including "business," is owned and controlled by the barbaric regime — have developed an international reputation for providing poor quality products. Indeed, official investigations have revealed that military hardware components made in China have a tendency to fail. A recent congressional report, for example, found that there could be over a million counterfeit Chinese electronic parts on U.S. military aircraft.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-military-china-idUSKCN1MC275
QuoteWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Pentagon-led review ordered by President Donald Trump has identified hundreds of instances where the U.S. military depends on foreign countries, especially China, for critical materials, U.S. officials said.

The study is expected to be released in the coming weeks and aims to lessen the U.S. military's reliance on foreign countries and strengthen U.S. industry.

Among the study's conclusions will be a determination the United States is too dependent on foreign suppliers for a range of items including some micro-electronics, tiny components such as integrated circuits and transistors, the officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

These kinds of essential components are embedded in advanced electronics used in everything from satellites and cruise missiles to drones and cellphones.

The focus on China reflects an effort under Trump to address the risks to U.S. national security from Beijing's growing military and economic clout. Pentagon officials want to be sure China is not able to hobble America's military by cutting off supplies of materials or by sabotaging technology it exports.

The report could add to mounting trade tensions with China, bolstering the Trump administration's "Buy American" initiative, which aims to help drum up billions of dollars more in arms sales for U.S. manufacturers and create more jobs.

It's rated as "Nonsense damaging to public discourse". Only slightly better than the National Enquirer.

That chart is unintentionally hilarious in its pretentiousness and blind bias.  Seriously.  It has NPR, BBC, NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN (among others, categorized as "minimal partisan bias")!      :D

It appears to take the core of the very left-leaning mainstream media as some sort of arbitrary neutral baseline (which is sure as hell isn't) and then assigns degrees of differentiation from there.

Best to have lots of varied sources for information and treat each with a healthy dose of skepticism.  That's especially true for the sources others trust without question, often with religious zeal (e.g. The New York Times, the BBC, NPR, etc).

Here is another article to trigger you liberals.

Just a friendly reminder that St. Obama waited until 1000 Americans were dead, 20,000 were hospitalized and close to a million were sick before he made a move with H1N1 in 2009
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/02/flashback-barack-obama-waited-until-millions-infected-and-1000-americans-dead-before-declaring-h1n1-a-national-emergency/

So when you scream Orange man bad!! with every death, I will ask did you scream it 1000X in 2009? Because I didn't, I did not blame Obama because this is a non political event.

It is a sickness moving across the globe and its not good.

So maybe its time to put politics aside and chastise those who are making this political.... or don't I honestly do not give 2 shits.

I did not realize people were going to freak over the source of what I thought was a good article to keep your head straight and not let the media froth you in to a tizzy. I seriously do not give a fuck it its was from Huff Post / CNN / Bloomberg or Infowars. If it a level headed article, I think one would want to consider it.

Or scream Orange Man bad and run in circles, whatever floats your boat.

Italy climbs to over 2000 in 8 days, which is concerning.

We have our first cases in Florida.  Which are 130 miles from me.

The only thing I have changed as far as habits go is to wash my hands a lot more and trying to avoid public places with lots of people.  We typically go downtown to the green market on Sunday and attend the free concert on the river front. As of this weekend we stopped that. We are going to nature trails instead.

We already get our produce from Misfits, and my wife subscribed to an organic meal company, where we get 3 meals a week from them to prepare. We also have butcher box delivered once every 3 months. So our need to go to the grocery store is maybe once a month now.

I have not been really sick since the 90's. We live pretty clean lives, so, knock on wood, hoping to avoid this one altogether.

Well Dave, I am just passing on info.  If the source triggers you, you might have a problem.

I looked on CNN this afternoon, they are more interested in bashing Trump then reporting on real news.

I look at trending headlines.  This is another trending subject.  I really do not give a fuck where it comes from, it could be on CNN (doubtful) or on MSNBC I honestly do not care, I look on all platforms with little regard of who it is. Hell Alex Jones gets something right once in a while just like CNN does.

This doc in complaining he cannot get test kits from CDC and fears they will hit 1000 cases in NY by next week.

BTW - During the 8 years of Obama I never once attacked ANYONE, on the internet, in person, or anywhere else. I did not like his policies and thought he was horrid, I never took it out on anyone. You will see in November, a lot of people are sick of the non stop hate from the left, that is all they preach. They have no solutions and many level headed people see that and have left the reservation.

Case in point of politics being bullshit when it comes to the virus.

Trump makes a very early move to restrict flights to and from China. What did he get? Criticized!! of course it did not age well and crying Chuck pulled down his tweet thinking no one took a screen shot.

Look at the date, do you think it was a bad move to close down travel on 5 February?  Chuck did!  Because Politics are more important and you should never miss an opportunity to bash Trump for everything.

I don't think it's going to matter, from pre season testing it looks like the Merc and the Reds Bull are going to be going at it and the Red cars will be fighting with McLaren and ForcePointPink....
