Installing new door cards

Having a bit of trouble getting my newton commercial cards to fit into the grove at the top of the door.  Need to get it up there so the rest of the holes line up.  An ideas?

Top in first with brute force, mallet hits on the bottom to push it real good as required.

Rubber mallet or plastic dead blow?

I use a rubber one and will put a shop rag between the two for added safety in the rare event I need the mallet.
