Downtown Tulsa on the 4th.  They shot off fireworks early to beat the storm.  I was on the balcony at the time. Winds hit about 80.

Not my phone a screen grab as I missed this.  I am assuming this is Harry Truman's Presidential Limo out getting some exercise on Duval Street in Key West.  We have toured the Truman White house in the past. Pretty cool piece of history.

 a million years ago one of my friends introduced me to the wonderful world of computer games - they were very primitive back in the late 80's but I remember the first game I played on my friend's laptop - Lounge Lizard Larry!

If you ever find yourself in Key Largo, Florida, there is a Marina next to a Holiday Inn along US1.
In that marina is the actual African Queen boat used in the Movie. It was originally a steam powered boat that was converted to gas.  In the movie they concealed that and made it look to be steam powered to make it look period correct.

I spoke with the owner a couple of years ago, they gave up trying to keep the old gas engine running and installed, hastily IMO, a outboard. I think that is a huge mistake and they should rebuild the engine.

We always stop off in Key Largo on our way to Key West.  We have debated driving straight through (5 hours) instead of the 2 hours to Key Largo then another 3 hours to KW.  We like spending the first night in Key Largo then meandering down to KW exploring. This year we toured Grimal Grove which has a lot of history on Big Pine Key.

The only pic I snapped was of a deer grazing around out in front of the place. I was intrigued by the tour and never once thought to snap a pic.

Once in KW while walking NW along Caroline Street, you come up on Pepe's, another place wrought with history.  More notable for me is Hunter Thompson hung out here all the time as well. Its a real dive and looks as old inside as it does outside.

The nondescript building with all the stickers was Jimmy Buffets recording studio. No signs, nothing indicating as much. If you know, you know.

I love Key West, we try to go every July, I am actually toying with moving there for a few years. I discussed it with the wife, the only thing keeping us where we are right now is her parents and the possibility of needing to be there for them. That would be hard to do living 5 hours away. Plus I do not think my liver will survive that place. 

OK break over time to get back to work.

New neighbor behind my shop up on the hill. He came down to introduce himself. Pulls up on a race lawn mower.  This one does 45mph and he races it at some different tracks around the area.  Sounds pretty competitive.

It makes me want to build one.  Evidently some of these guys spend some big bucks on the motors and gearing.

My lawnmower racer neighbor did break some ribs getting involved in a crash.  Opponent lost control and in the swerving and wiping out came up over the side of his mower and nailed him in the ribs. No side bars or roll cages to prevent that.  He left the damaged area on as a battle scar.

It seems every Friday morning these cats meet up at the corner bagel joint.  I typically fast on Fridays, lately I have been grabbing an egg sandwich, I have seen these guys 2X now.

This Bugatti type 57 made in unexpected appearance at the local C&C type car show this morning. It was absolutely stunning.  It has such a dark blue paint that it looked black, except under the right conditions in very direct sunlight.

Also there was this resto Volvo 1800S, now with a V8.  And we found a new local Mini too.

How hot was it at 7 am this morning? 86 here at 9 am.....now 100*.....going to be in the 100's all week, might get down to 95 next Sat. I won't be mowing the grass again till it starts raining again in late Oct.

The blue color was extremely subtle on the Bugatti. Just the smallest hint of blue in what otherwise looked like black.

It was relatively cool at 8 AM, probably about 74°.  It helps that the car show is out in the country and not near any huge heat sinks like in a more congested area. But it was definitely in the upper 80s by 10:30 or so when we left, and he got into the upper 90s by late afternoon. 

Yeah, the Mini is a 1981. Not sure that's the original color. It has been upgraded with a 1275 and dual 1.25 inch carbs. Haven't seen a Mini with dual carbs in a while since most of 1300 engines have moved over to the HIF single carb.
