I sold a bunch of my uncles tools over the last few months, including 2 large floor jacks. Both the jacks were sold and paid for well before the 30th of April when I closed out the storage facility where I had kept everything, and both buyers were informed that they needed to pick them up by the end of the month when I lost the storage. Neither did......

The two jacks are still at my house.....

Trying to decide how to approach this......both buyers are well out of town so transport was always going to be an issue, but both guys said they would come get them by the end of April.

So I'm trying to decide whether to be a hard ass about it, tell them if they don't come get them in X days I'm relisting them for sale as abandoned property or just (given the circumstances) cool it. I haven't heard from either guy in a month. Both were adamant that they were excited and glad to get these vintage jacks that they had looked for long and hard, etc etc.....

I have contact info on both and was planning to give them till the end of this month before I contacted them again, but like I said, I haven't heard beans in a month or more now. Seems to me if they wanted them - considering they paid in full already - they would have made arrangements by now? I know I would have......

What's your take?

Whether at work or at home, I always say "communication is key".

Maybe drop each a note and ask what's up, but don't give an ultimatum in that communication?

Prolly what I'd do.

I agree that communication is key, but you can't keep them cluttering up your home forever.

I would actually talk to a local repair shop or used car dealership to find out what the actual 'law' is regarding abandoned property.  Those guys have to deal with these matters all the time.

I'd then write an informed, factual letter to the two buyers instructing them to pick them up or send someone who can pick them up for them before such-and-such date as allowed by law.  Only afterwards would I re-list them for sale.

Were these jacks sold BC or AC*?

If BC then maybe give them some slack as they might be apprehensive about traveling.

IF AC then put some pressure on them to come get them.

If you need some assistance, I can give my my uncle Tony's phone number, he pays "visits" to people for a fee.

I'd reach out and see when they plan to get them. If after a few days no word then I'd resell and give their money back if and when they reach out.

Forgot to follow up on this......I did reach out to both of them.....one guy decided to come get his (Davenport Iowa), he and the wife drove down and picked it up and bought a few other things too.

One down.

The other guy is north of Denver, he finally replied too and he says he can't come get it and hasn't found a cost effective way to get it there, asking me to either just hold onto it a while longer and if I don't want to do that go ahead and sell it and keep his money. So far I'm just holding onto it......

I still have more than a few things left to sell but haven't been actively trying to due to the virus situation. But I sure would like to get some of these big things out of the shop and basement.

Just FYI, Fastenal is now shipping stuff on their trucks again - you're at the mercy of their schedule but it will get there eventually - I packed up the Denver jack and delivered it to them and he had it a week later - cost $141, much less than any other shipping quotes he'd gotten!
