Dan has graciously allowed us to host our photos of our Minis and work on them here on the site, and I appreciate having a storage spot for my photos - and I rarely hotlink them from here.

However, I wonder if things have changed out there? Used to be I could just right click on a photo, copy that info and embed a pic in a post, now that doesn't seem to work anymore? I can copy the pic to my computer, and "share" it to Facebook or something but embedding the info in the brackets - when I can get it -   doesn't seem to work anymore?

Here's an example - the pic is on Instagram and by a friend of mine - the link will show, but if I put it in the brackets, nothing shows? (The info is there in my post but it doesn't show)

I really don't want to start an account with an online photo hosting site, especially with what happened with Photobucket.

You cannot right click on Instagram photos they embed in a way to make it impossible to hotlink.

After my photobucket debacle. I went to smugmug.com and purchased an account.

If photobucket had a reasonable price I would have stayed with them.  I will never go back to them.

I use another forum and we cannot host pics on there so I use my smugmug for that.

On my cel phone I can screen shot that instgram pic, save it to my phone, even cropping it then host it on smugmug.

It took me less than a minute to do that.

Yes, but unless you're saying there is no other way, I do not want to host my pics on a photo sharing site.

You can get the image info off the instagram site, I posted it above.....why you can't hot link it into a post is my question - something has changed and I think it's in my browser......I'm using Edge. Just for fun I think I'll open RM in Firefox and see if it does the same thing - could be a Microsoft issue.

Be back in a minute.....

OK, lets see what happens now in Firefox.....

Nope, same issue.....if you're a mod on this site you can open my post and see the info in the [img] brackets, but nothing appears in my post, not even the box with the red X in it like it used to.

I have moderator privileges and looked at your post.  The link information does not end in a file name, just the "directory".

For the image embedding to work, the location reference must end in the photo file name (ends in something with a .jpg or .png or .gif type extension).

If you do not want to upload to the forum's hosting, you can "attach" a picture from your own computer instead.

Example: download the picture from instagram to your local drive, select the "Attachments and other options" below the text window of the forum posting editor, "browse" to the file on your local drive, save your post.  This will then copy the picture up to the forum directly into your post.  You can then delete it from your local drive and it will still appear in the forum post.

I understand what you're saying, I was referencing other sites I post to......here I always upload from my computer to the site.

I'll look at that link, I wonder if just adding a .jpg would do it?

Edit: Nope, that doesn't work either.....didn't really think it would.

It's interesting that I used to be able to right click on a pic and a dialog box would open with all the info on the pic, but now that doesn't happen anymore. That's the change I was talking about.....

Edit 2: Apparently it's a browser thing, I still have IE on this computer, in IE I can still get the dialog box with the pic address in it.

Instagram and faceburger won't allow any links to post direct unfortunately. You'd have to save or screen shot and attach as an upload.

I'm on the English Mini Forum, that's where I'm trying to post....they have an absolute limit on the amount of Pics they will host and I've reached it, so the only way it seems I can add pics to my posts is to use a pic hosting site, they don't allow hotlinking from anywhere else.
