I have a no drunk posting policy, lets just say I have had regrets.
That said, in the spirit of this thread, I may log on and post. Although after this week that may be rare as I am going on my January dry spell, whip myself back into shape phase and with the influence of a 19 y/o nephew and 21 year old son that have turned into gym rats my January dry spell may last until spring.

I had a similar experience with getting a good beer buzz, early in the morning...Sheryl Crow ruined that one for me.
My wife watches Mad Men - amazing how much drinking went on back then (if that was typical). I do fondly remember me and my sisters taking turns sitting on my fathers lap while he drank. We'd steer the car and when he finished the beer we'd get to throw the empty out the window and see if we could get it over the car into the woods...probably a right hand drive would have been better for him. ::)

Its a little German beer that I brewed and put in the keg. The wife was on a big "I hate hops" binge for a while and so she bough a kit for me to make that had the lowest IBU number she could find.
It tastes like dust, but it tastes amazing when you cook it with brats.
I have been tossing around the idea of making some Whiskey. I need to talk my wife into letting me spend some money on a tig machine to make a stainless steel still.
I am going to try to brew my first batch of beer next weekend. I am brewing a porter.

Scotch is my weakness. I love the balvine Caribbean cask and the 21 year special. I am quite a snob and have a few bottles that are for special occasions. One of my finest is a 42 glendronic.
I am just learning my Scotches. I like them as much as traditional american whiskey. I find the older ones to be more of my liking, 5 year olds tend to have more bite than I care for. I think this is a 12 year and it is pretty smooth.
That said, I do enjoy American Whiskey too.
So, I fell asleep last night, did I miss anything? Does Dan still love me?
Yes I still love you. I started a 6 day work sequence so just sitting in my jet irritated. Normally work 4 on but I swapped things around. I did have 24 days scheduled off in January but now I'm down to 20.

I have had the Smutty on tap and liked it. The Highlands is by far my favorite Stout. They are based in Asheville North Carolina and can be found on tap there and I have had it there and it is good. Very excited to have some tomorrow.

I had my one drink at dinner and fell asleep at 930p.
We had a party at our house last night. You had to wear a hat. We had a ball, I drank 2 Smuttynose IPA's all night and a glass of Champagne at midnight. Did not get to bed until 2 a.m. after cleaning up and had been up since 4:30 the morning prior. Needless to say I slept un until 12 noon today. Spent a lazy day playing with kid.
Sorry no stupid drunk stories but... I have tons of leftover beer and tomorrow is Friday... screw resolutions.

I am also sick of staring at computer screens all weekend so I am kicking back, relaxing, and waiting for Shameless to come on TV tonight.
There are 10 nano-breweries in a 20 mile radius of my house...can't go up the street for a beer without a stash of growlers, just in case one strikes your fancy.
Tonight we went to hit a new one in Dover, NH but it was closed so we had to walk a block to a different one.

We are stating to get a lot of small breweries here as well. Not quite the concentration you have but, off the top of my head there are 3 in a 10 mile radius and if I drive a tad further there are 5.
Also, that gastropub across the street from my office is the place to be, all the distributors, brew masters, and people that own draft houses etc.. all eat there mostly at lunch time.
I have sat next to a coupe of different Brew Masters and I laugh because all the guys sitting at the bar have logo shirts on representing all the area distributors. I wish I could launch a Micro Brewery, after sitting for an hour one evening speaking to a brew master in training, I realized I do not have the time to train to be one. Maybe someday, for now, I will content if I can find tie to brew a batch of my own.
In State College today at one of my favorite places here. Nothing crazy as far as beer goes, but the peanut butter wings are really good.
BRB I am heading out now to drink lunch. ;D
Monday is $2.50 sliders day at the Gastropub grabbed 2 of them. Plus two glasses of a very nice IPA and I am happy now.

They had a tap takeover at the Gastropub last night. 4 taps from a local brewery called Sailfish Brewing Company. So I had a flight of their offering. Pretty good.

That was today for me. Lots of frustrating events one after another.
Mrs5543 let me know I was on my own for dinner. She was talking the 11 y/o for a haircut at 6 pm. So I worked late at the office then headed home. I broke out a PBR and watched the news. Then went to the garage and went over the Mini since I am going to need it for at least another week. She is eating about 1/2 a quart of oil per tank full. Added a quart of oil drank another PPR and called it a day.
Moved on to Whiskey and I am about done. 6 a.m. alarm set. Busy day tomorrow. So grateful the Mini Pickup is being good to me.

Leaking most likely. I do not see it is burning it on the plugs. Well, maybe one I will pull them again and take a look.
It leave a pretty good mess everywhere I go.

Jim. take a look at the axle shaft and shift rod seals, those seem to be the most likely culprits and both are fairly easy to fix.

Him and I are both on vacation this month, which is a bad combo. He flew in from north Carolina to work on minis and drink. The problem is we'll go out every night. So last night was no exception. I found myself drinking bloody Mary's at this cool place down the road. We eventually started ordering snacks before we made our way home. Oh and Jim he and I use to get into "car altercations" in my old rx7. First thing that happened yesterday was we got into a race with a Mustang. I smoked him. Then we adjusted rockers on a mini lol.
I cannot race anyone anymore, I am driving a Mini now.
I am going to get pulled over tomorrow morning, I am 80% sure of that. I am ready too, so be ready for a story and video.

We picked up a couple howlers yesterday and about 15 gallons of gas for the generator. It's crazy outside right now (supposedly close to a foot already and will be coming down all day) but somehow we still have power. Probably if I hadn't bought gas we'd have lost it hours ago. 50.gif

Crowler? I guess it doesn't matter much to put the opened can back in the fridge for the 15 minutes it takes me to drink a glass, will seem strange, though.
But it's a neat little machine that puts the tops on after they fill it. And will be nice not having one more glass bottle sitting around - especially when I don't remember to take them when I'm out and have to buy yet another one. Although they were a little more expensive than plain old fill ups at other places.
Good and bad I suppose.

Friday Night in Miami ...... I had to go back and recall what happened because I woke up Saturday morning and wanted to die. Check out the Formula E thread later for more on that.
To the best of my recollection I counted 7 beers drank that evening and every one of them was high ABV IPA's, including splitting a 6 pack of 7% IPA's in our hotel room with my buddy. We had a living room area so our friends came over to hang out and drink. My wife coined a new phrase, I had Beermuffs on, seems when I get hammered I talk REALLY LOUD. My wife was shusshing me all evening as she was afraid we were disturbing hotel guests at 12 midnight.
Needless to say, I was slow moving Saturday morning and was on a verge of puking my brains out.
I paced myself the rest of the weekend.
Now I am dry for real, time to get serious with the fitness wife and I pinkie promised. So I am out of here for a while.

My niece has ET (no not the character the disease it is called essential tremors syndrome) which makes her shake like she has Parkinsons disease, except it is not. So we get her a $12 Wheel chair and wheel her around when she feels fatigued.

I was a good boy last night. 2 IPA's and I was done.
120 - I have now bad two of them the first was disapointing the second was really good.
For how expensive they are give it a try or two, the just grab some Thomas Creek up the creek IPA which is cheaper and be done with it. More consistent and better imho.

FYI - The Thomas Creek IPA is over 14% ABV, while, as we know, the 120 is 12%.
I watched a grown man (60 years old) get his ass kicked by the Thomas Creek, he thought he could drink them like Buds and ended up getting REALLY sloppy.
I have video of him walking like he is on a boat in 12' seas.
I promised to destroy it... I suck at following through.

I didn't make it the week. Wednesday was a rout, tonight started out with a 21st Amendment IPA, then we went to 7th Settlement brewery and had a 'Nate the Great' 9% Stout and another IPA...came home for a Crowler of Mosaic IPA from Garrison City brewery. 32oz, but 5%? Isn't that what water is?

At my dca crashpad I keep vodka, rum, tonic, and ginger beer in my section of the shared closet. Couple weeks ago I bought a bottle of 151 gosling dark rum, made a drink for myself and lady friend. Last night I look at the bottle and think, that looks low for only two drinks. I make a mental note. This morning I wake up and the bottle is damn near empty. In typical fashion I am pissed beyond belief. Someone (only 3 of us in the place right now) is stealing my damn booze. Take a shower to ponder which jerk is doing this. Paul the mechanic shares my closet and was the only guy there last night and works nights. I decide to kill Paul when he gets back from the night shift...well confront and potentially punch him in the face. I get out of the shower and there's Paul walking in. Takes a look at me, noticing the anger, goes...oh yeah I'll replace that rum. Starts feeding me a load about how his tooth hurt. Ok buddy just go buy a new bottle before you tick me off anymore. Guy must be an alcoholic or something.

What I learned yesterday.
Once you put a deposit and take a growler, it is yours for life, no returns. So the deposit, is really a purchase.
I had 3 growlers from the corner Gastropub. I decided I was going to return 2 and keep one, I went in for lunch yesterday and found this neat fact out.
I ended up leaving with 2 full growlers. ;D
They have a good business model.

It is not every day you see Dogfishhead 120 on tap. I tried to get in to the keg tapping last night.... beyond capacity. I left.
The owner messaged me at 10 last night and told me that the keg never kicked. So here I am for a late lunch. He even saved a souvenir glass for me.

I had a very cool afternoon at the local Gastropub, I stopped in for a late lunch and to pick up a Gift Certifcate. The owner /GM was there as well as a couple of Beer Distributor reps (they all have lunch at this place) and suddenly bottles of beer were being broken out and shared.
The owner, fed me some. I felt special and wanted to hug him again.
Before that I had Dogfishheads American Beauty an Imperial Pale Ale and it was glorious.

I had two Lagunita's IPA's at dinner Friday night and they took me right up to 0.08. It was 0.06 for a while, then it popped up to 0.08 about 20 minutes after the last one.
Lets just say this thing has been an eye opener. I think I can drive with 3 IPA's in me safely, the government will tell me otherwise.
It will probably slow my roll, which in all honesty contrary to the last couple of posts, I have been doing. I have some fitness goals I need to achieve by next spring, drinking does not fit in with that.

fyi. Reduce photo size app works great to keep photos from posting sideways. When you resize it orients the pic how it would post. Then all is needed is to rotate within the app and save. Probably need to sticky this trick sober.
Dan, if you are in G-ville for long enough, head over to Thomas Creek Brewery and take a tour, I think it is $5, you get a pint glass and you get to taste about 5 different beers on tap there then you can buy some bottles to go. The brewery is about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown G-ville.
It was really interesting, educational and fun as hell.

Last night I decided to meander over to my bar. Even brought the rest of my ginger beer to make my drinks. Several hours later I was summoned to meet up with a friend. It's maybe 5 miles, takes 10 minutes tops. So I Uber. I uber a lot. Typically in Tulsa I pay 6 bucks anywhere in my circle of places I frequent. I expected to pay 10 bucks to get from A to B last night. Woke up and looked at my bill. Ouchy. I kinda forgot about Friday night surcharges but jeebus louisus.
Does that include a tip?
Yeah uber includes a tip. Very convenient app. Normally very well priced too. I guess getting gouged once in a blue moon isn't the worst thing to ever happen to me but I'll definitely take note for next time the surcharge alert pops up.

What does a DUI run there days? $45 seems like a good deal to me. I know you got gouged, but take comfort in knowing you were being responsible and that is worth it.

Yes, it is pretty good, 7% IBU was in the 60's IIRC and had a decent citrus taste to it.

I don't drink - alcohol does not agree with me - so I look at this thread and think I've probably saved enough money over my lifetime to buy a new MINI! ;D

I just promised myself this morning that when this beer in the house runs out I am not buying any more until April next year when it is my birthday.
I have fitness goals and as much as I like a good craft beer it is indeed inhibiting those goals.
Now moving on and not being a Debbie downer in a thread of funness, I introduced my BIL to a proper old fashioned and he is hooked.
We pounded a couple over Turkey then switched to Due South IPA's and had a fantastic Turkey Day.
Now I am relaxing and enjoying a tasty bourbon barrel Stout.

I think for Mini Meet West if there's a handful of people from Restoration Mini attending we should have a R-M beer night!
San Diego is one of the "Craft Beer" capitals and I could lead us on a great beer tour from I.P.A bars to Belgian specific bars to only Locally brewed bars.
The guest hotel is pretty close to the "Beer Hub" neighborhood of North Park and is an easy cab/Uber/Lyft ride so you can really enjoy everything that is on tap.

Last night got out of hand.
I so want to meet you and your cousin, he reminds me of David Cross (Tobias from Arrested Development) mixed with Dom DeLuise.
So..we started the night by meeting two lovely girls for dinner. They were on one side of the table, we on the other. We decided to share a pizza and appetizer. He ordered for the both of us, as did the girls for themselves. Then we decided we'd pretend to be a couple. Mind you we dress nice, drink wine, and he had a scarf. Next time the dude came by Blaine put his arm around me. By the end of the meal the waiter, gay himself, told us we were a cute couple..then goes oh and you two girls too. The girls didn't realize we had been playing the gay card till he hit us with that. It was pretty funny.
That is awesome!!

A Bistro a couple towns north of me has over 40 beers on tap and on Mondays and Thursdays, all day, all drafts 16 oz glasses no matter what beer, are $3. Including Dog Fish Head 90 Minute IPA. I love this place.

They just introduced a beer club, for $50 (forever one time membership fee) you get a 24 ounce Mug with your name engraved on it and placed in your reserved hanging spot. I purchased 2, one for me and one for my friend who lives too far away to enjoy it but he is my bud so he gets one for when we do hang out. We have made plans to meet at least once a month.
The 24 oz Mug is $1 more than a draft and is 2x the size, obviously. So on Mon and Thurs I get a 24 ounce 90 Minute IPA for $4.

Was able to taste back to back 2 very rare stouts this past weekend at Universal Studios. Both beers can only be purchased and consumed in the park, and for that reason they are stupid expensive, but hell, you only live once.

I treated myself to a bottle of Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold last winter, which I really didn't expect to enjoy as much as the 'standard' 15 year old, as the Winter's gold should be served from the freezer. T'was much better than I expected, and not as sweet as I'd imagined. As it warmed up it took new nuances.

Good to know, just from the sniff test I can tell I am going to like the Dalwhinnie a lot. I am just learning Scotch's so this club should help me expand my knowledge.
I probably should have joined a club, but having several supermarkets in the neighborhood and probably 15 or so different bottles to choose from, I simply bought a bottle now and then and either suffered through it, gave it to the wife or made a mental note that one was better than another.

My biggest issue is that my mom manages a local liquor store, so she just tells me to come by and buy X expensives scotches/bourbons/whiskeys.

Excited to try this Japanese Whiskey. I have read that Japan loved Four Roses Whiskey, which I do too, and that Japan was one of their largest consumers.
If that is any indication as to what I am in store for I am looking forward to enjoying this one.

I popped into my local wine/spirits shop today to buy some vodka and noticed that they have an extraordinary selection of whiskeys, brandies and scotches... I think I saw the Koval on their shelves, as I remarked to the sales person (this time t'was a blonde girl from Sweden...) that I liked that particular style of bottle - there were 4 or 5 different whiskeys using that same bottle. I might just go back in there and see if there's anything to buy.
So, why did I buy 6 bottles of vodka? Now that I'm finally finished making marmelade (made 35 ½-liter jars this year; 25 jars blackberry, 5 jars mirabelle (wild plum) and 5 jars Damson), we've decided to make sloe liqueur and sloe gin. Hyacinth and I picked sloe (blackthorn) drupes, known locally as 'slåen' - I think we picked around 4 kilos and they've been laid in the freezer. I might pick some more the next time I'm at the estate.
Last year we made a couple of liters vodka-based liqueur and it had the deepest crimson color - tasted pretty darned good too - so we decided to make a bit more this year.
Man that sounds delicious. My wife loves Vodka drinks mostly due to the low calorie nature of them.
Honestly, its fantastic. :D
There's been a slight stalling on the slåen-project, though hopefully resolved tomorrow.
My swinging-latch bottles (I think you call them growlers, but I've been afraid to ask "What's a growler" in order to avoid looking like a socially disconnected nerd) need new rubber seals and I thought I could just pop down to the restaurant supply shop and pick them up, but no dice. So I looked online and found some, but won't have them 'quickly'. I then remembered that there's a home-brewing beer & wine supply store about a mile away from my apartment - I drive past it every time I go to my garage, every time I go fishing or anywhere for that matter. Sure enough, they've got them in stock, 20 pieces for around 3 dollars and they're open tomorrow. They seem to have a bit of everything, so maybe I'll be making beer someday -

We're hoping to start bottling the berries, vodka and sugar this weekend. Thereafter it's only a 6 - 8 month waiting period...
We use the growler term pretty loosely here. I have growlers from about 3 different breweries. 2 have flip tops the others have screw tops which sucks because you do not want to leave them on the bottle when storing empty and you know what that leads to. Lost screw tops.
Good idea hitting up a brewing supply store. I have one nearby too, I will have to remember that in case my rubber seals go.
I broke the seal on the Nikka Whiskey last night and feel like it is more of a scotch than a whiskey. It was good but it had more of a earthy and smokey scotch taste to me.
Interesting...I throw my tops away when I'm done with the beer. The breweries up here always give you a new one...
So, the Nikka is earthy & smokey, éh? Sounds like I need to buy a bottle and some tobacco for the pipe or some cigars to go with it.
The variety of beverages reviewed in this thread has really made me realize that I really should drink more.

John, I love that fan, I bought a vintage one a while back and still have it but it is so noisy this thing is silent and throws some air.
Funny, when something hits close to home it really effects you.
My BIL at 44 years old had chest pains on Monday October 3rd. The 3 weeks prior to that, he threw 3 Pallets of sod in his backyard, replaced a back door on his house, and re-stuccoed the area around it. He also filled in a hole where an above ground pool used to be half sunk in.
He gets to a commercial job site and has to report to the control room which is 5 stories up and the only way to get there is by stairs. He gets up 3 stories and gets the chest pains. Goes back down and calls his doc. Explains what is going on and how it is burning and running down his arm. Doc tells him to go straight to a hospital emergency room.
My BIL being the badass that he is, drives 3 hours home and goes to one by his house. This would be a huge mistake, the Hospital he was near was a top rated hospital in the nation Tampa General. The one he drove to is so low we do not discuss its ranking.
Remember, he drove 3 hours, walked in and got checked out.
They told him his arteries were 90% blocked and he needed quadruple bypass.
They messed it up.
He is now in line for a heart transplant and cannot even walk without a defibrillator vest on.
Now, all that told, I do not smoke he has since he was 16, I am not overweight, he is/was about 80 lbs overweight. I do not travel for a living and eat healthy home made meals most of the time, he travels for a living and eats out 3X a day. I exercise, lift weights, some cardio here and there and I am very active. He does not know what the inside of a gym looks like.
All of that and Mrs5543 thinks I am next. Which is BS, but to keep the peace I pulled back huge on the drinking. Maybe 1 beer when we are out on the weekend. And maybe a beer here and there during the week but no more than 1 and not nightly.
From time to time I go dry, there are no shakes, no amazing cravings or inability to function due to lack of booze. I do come from a long like of professional drinkers (Alcoholics) so I like to turn off the tap here and there to make sure I am not an addict.
I do LOVE craft beers and think it is fun to find new breweries and try their interpretations of different beers. I love a good whiskey too and have been enjoying the different flavors of brands I never heard of. I cannot see myself cutting that out completely ever.
For now, I am appeasing the wife, who is forcing me to get a full physical now, and a PSA Scan as well as a prostrate exam. Riddle me this... the docs were scoping my BIL's heart going up a vein with what we would call a bore scope to look inside, yet I still have to get a finger up my ass for a prostrate exam? I had one done in my early 40's and everything was fine. Wife is on me now, thinks I am going to die next.
I have so much life insurance I am worth more dead though. Not sure what she is worried about. ;D
Wow, sorry to hear that about your BIL. I hope he gets the heart before he gets worse.
Hopefully the results from your physical will calm the wife's nerves and you'll be good to go. Good luck with it and the finger. Just hope your doc has small hands.
I wasn't sure how to react when hearing about your BIL, but given his lifestyle and assuming that his father hasn't any heart issues and that you're not related to him by any means other than marriage, I'll venture a guess that you haven't much to worry about unless your family has a predisposition to cardio problems and your wife is really transferring her worries about him onto you.
Last time I had a 'gloved' exam, I told the doctor that he'd better give me flowers next time.

WTF the hospital caused him to need a heart by messing up a bypass surgery? Or did I read that wrong? If so that's effed up sorry to hear about that either way it sucks at only 44 years old.

Jeff - he walked in with a heart working at 50% efficiency despite 90% blockage. In a perfect world a quad bypass should have put him back on his way.
Sadly, they claim he had a heart attack on the table greatly damaging his heart and leaving him with 20% efficiency with now clear arteries. He needs a new heart.
Obamacare mandates he cannot have a new heart until he wears a defibrillator vest for 3 months, THEN he can get on a waiting list for a heart.
Of course, this will reset his deductible for next year. Which sucks, I have no idea why he has to wait 3 months. Maybe they are counting on him to die so they do not have to cover the transplant.
He is supposed to come home and start the wait on Friday.
Meanwhile I grabbed some great crafts while waiting for rain to pass at this cool little craft beer store a few towns away this past Friday. Had a good, lets try to die, weekend.
Raise a glass for my friend Tom, someone I'd been friends with since 6th grade, his cancer finally took him today. RIP, Tom......

One of my local supermarkets sells Chimay and a plethora of other fine and Danish micro-brews. Now that I have a reason to, I really need to start drinking.
As a aside, once in a while Hyacinth gets together with a couple of the hens from her workplace. I'm super supportive, anytime she wants to eat at someone else's place is fine with me - I get to eat 'bachelor' food in the most primitive fashion, normally right out of the pan it cooked in. So, when she asked me to pick up a couple of bottles of wine the other day, I said OK, and told her I'd pick up one white and one red - hope it would be OK.
I picked up a bottle of Dirty Hoe shiraz and a Fat Bastard sauvignon blanc. I hope they aren't too offended and accept me for the primate I am...

I joined this website called Flaviar. My mission was simple to expand my knowledge of Whiskeys and Scotch's and to build a liquor cabinet most would envy in the process.
I am 3 months in, the deal goes like this, you get one free shipment a month, buy one bottle buy six bottles its free. The prices are in line with Total wine, sometimes a buck or two more most times 5-10 bux cheaper, if you can find it there.
I have a decent collection so far and plan on cancelling my membership in 3 more months or 6 months total. Every 3 months you get a free sample pack of liquor you are interested in.

Many bottles I have never broken the seal on, a few I have and most have been as described in the reviews on their site and some have been better than expected.
I do not drink as much as I had in the past so it will be forever before I get to taste these all, but it has been a fun distraction from my day to day BS I deal with. A nice side hobby among many.

I was in the supermarket and had a bottle in hand just yesterday, but at DKK 360,- I thought it a bit steep. Also, as I had ridden my bicycle to the store and this was presumably the last bottle they had, it didn't have the usual box to protect the bottle on the way home, so I put it back on the shelf, and will wait til closer to Christmas before I treat myself to a bottle in the hope that Hyacinth doesn't get to it before I do.

Then I get talking talking to the owner, he sees all my fabulous IPA's at the checkout and guides me towards the taps. He gives me 2 samples. One was special Orchid Island Ruby Red IPA, I have had it at the Brewery and it is Amazing, and the sample was the same. He sells Cowlers (Can Growlers) and I get one of them too.
So here I am back at the office, just finished one Resin IPA and about to kill one more before heading home in the next hour.
Had to share this emotional moment.

I did get a liter of Dalwinnie for Christmas and she said she'd not have at it 62.gif, so I opened a bottle of the sloen-infused vodka - filtered it through a coffee filter and it's crystal clear, ruby-red and refreshing. I tried a shot mixed in some Schweppes - quite delightful (playfully articulate on the palate w/ good nose), but I'll bet it's even better with good-ol'fashioned tonic water.

Had to head to Hobe sound today, in Hobe Sound is a cool little joint called G's Beverages. On the outside it looks like an old 7-11 (more like a Circle K if you know what those are) inside.....
Rows of craft beer, and taps with a Cowler machine so you can take home tapped happiness too.
I grabbed a 4 pack of these bad boys, one of these should make life good. This is on par with Thomas Creeks IPA although this is only a 12%er and Thomas Creek is almost 14% IIRC.

I literally looked at these bottles on the shelf saw the price was actually sane, I have seen these go for $16-$20 a bottle. I looked around at the other men in the store ready to fight them if I had to, then with a poked face, put every damn last one of them in the shopping kart.
I text my buddy Kevin a pic he craps his pants and begs me to sell him some. Hmmm... maybe I should double the price and then mine are free. ;D

As I was canceling my membership at Flaviar declaring mission accomplished, I have amassed an amazing collection of fantastic Whiskeys and Scotch's. I have about 8-10 unopened bottles just waiting for the right moments / guests / events to break into them.
My parents are coming for a visit in a couple of weeks, my dad loves Kentucky Whiskey, I purchased a couple for him as gifts. I am now his favorite son. ;D
I am also taking my Bushmills on a road trip in 2 weeks with my car buddy Kevin as we take a quick road trips with the better halfs. Kevin and I are anxious to get into that one. Between that and the 120 IPA's we are in for some fun times.
I even surprised Mrs.5543 with some nice rums and vodka's. I saw I had not claimed a sample pack from them, so I ordered on called "The Fighting Irish" seemed fitting since I am heading there for vacation soon.

I LOVED the Powers and want more now. The Hyde was just as good but the Cannemara I did not like too much, it was more of a really peaty Scotch which I am not a fan of yet, maybe I will acquire a taste for it like I did with IPA's. I remember thinking IPA's sucked at first.
Funny story, I was sipping the Powers the other night when my buddy called me, he is the guy that covers for me when I go on vacation. We were discussing that and he went wild about Ireland, he tells me he has a great Irish friend that only drinks... you guessed it, Powers!! I laugh and tell him I have it in a glass at that moment. He went on to tell me his friend HATED Jameson and it was considered garbage in Ireland, I commented I already love these people. ;D

I never cancelled, I am just enjoying the sample boxes now and when something jumps out at me I buy it. Nothing like I was doing, now that my liquor cabinet is stocked to my liking I am not on a mad tear anymore.
Powers arrived today at office. I grabbed 2 bottles so I can give one to my friend Jon who is going to be covering for me in a few weeks when I head off to Ireland.

Not going to be there at the same time, I am going in early June.
Plus the moment I land in Dublin I am heading straight to Belfast and spending most of my time in the North of Ireland touring that region. That event is at the opposite coast from me.
That would have been awesome though.
I hope to see some Minis while I am there.
I rented a VW Passat diesel with a 6 speed manual. Looking forward to driving on the proper side of the road for a week.
I will end up in Dublin 2 days before I leave and plan on touring the city as mush as I can, I found out John Lane Distillery is in Dublin so I am hoping to visit there.
We have one wish to stay in a castle on evening. As cliche and touristy as it sounds we think it will be fun. The rest of the time we are there we have no reservations anywhere, we are winging it and hoping we find accommodations (inns B&B) wherever we end up. We have a loose itinerary / map of places we want to see but are very open to wander off on a tangent if suggested by a local and do or see whatever.
I have some very close friends that are off the boat Irish both from the North of Ireland. Part of the influence on me going to the terrorist side of the country.

I was reading up last night on Bloody Sunday, since we will be in LondonDerry (Derry) on our trip to Ireland and I would like to stop by the ancient walls and Bloody Sunday memorial.
I was a huge U2 fan in the early 80's not to get all Patrick Bateman on you all and wax poetic about U2. Lets say I owned the first 3 albums, Boy, October and War. As Unforgettable Fire was released my love for the band was waning, as it was no longer a edgy alternative rock band and was turning into a hip yuppie band. By Joshua Tree I was gone.
I probably watch the Sunday Bloody Sunday video 100's of times in the 80's on MTV. The magnitude of the video and the song never hit me until now. As a stoopid kid I never bothered to learn what the political message was in their songs, I just liked their sound, their rawness.

I remember someone telling me a story when I was young, it was about a man who was offered an orange, it was pretty special that orange because where this man lived you could not get oranges, so this was an opportunity to taste something rare and possibly never get to taste it again.
The man declined the Orange for that very reason, he did not want to have something that he would crave and never be able to have again.
Bushmills has done this to me, I almost wish I had never cracked open the bottle. It is so smooth with an amazing aftertaste, which I am forgetting what it had hints of, more homework!!
I am not sure I would reach for anything else to have until this thing is empty. The Powers is right up there, this Bushmills is just on another level and I never ever thought I would be a whisky snob. If you told me that 5 years ago I would have laughed at you.
I am very much looking forward to visiting the distillery next month. I want to give everyone there hugs.
I was waiting for the part where the guy gets scurvy, but you just like bushmills that much.

The saving grace here, it was July 4th and my 23 yo son enjoyed finishing the bottle with me.

The AC went out on my rental office 2 weeks ago. For those unacquainted with commercial rentals. Typically the HVAC is on you, it is your responsibility to service it and replace as needed. My 40 year old AC quit 2 weeks ago. I had to purchase $500 for a portable AC unit and nice fan to move cool air from room to room, then bring my 12K window unit from home in order to keep my office at a nice cool 82 degrees. Wooo!!
Then the new AC was installed on my dime.. $3,000 in AC for a RENTAL = money thrown away!!
My booze habit for the last 5 years cannot compare to what I spend in 2 weeks on AC.
Thank god for Whiskey!
That 16 year Bushmills is Amazing. It is one of the best Whiskey/Scotch/Bourbons I've ever had. Smooth with lots of different flavors. Enjoy it.

The Eagle might get opened this week. I had a couple of fingers of Makers Mark Cask Strength last night with dinner. I had not had a Bourbon in a long while, been mostly sticking to Scotch and Irish Whiskey, the Bourbon flavor really hit me. I really enjoyed it.

Took the tour of a rum distillery south of Columbus GA. They grow and process their own sugar cane to make the rum with. Distilled in large copper vats then into the barrels for 4 years. After they use the barrels once they send them to other places like vineyards and breweries for use. Then they are returned for another batch of rum that will pick up a hint of the flavor from the last use of the barrel. Small place so we got to see the whole operation.
Grab some royal jamaican ginger beer to go with that rum. And a lime 77.gif

Tonight I tried something different, not sure how I feel about it. I drank one and switched to a strong IPA. I will revisit this one, since there are 5 left. ;D

I'm at a German festival, the Wurstfest. Mmmmmm German beer and sausage and music. Das ist gud!
We had Octoberfest last month. You probably should have picked your mini up that weekend.
That would have been fun. Has anybody here been to the real Oktoberfest in Germany? I think I'd really like to do that some time.
I vaguely recall being to OctoberFest in Germany as a small child something close to 50 years ago. We were stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany 1968 to 1971.
1979.............I was traveling with a girl by bicycle all over Europe, we were gone almost a year and part of our general plan was to wind up in Munchen (where we had friends) in late Sept or early October. We had started our run just as school was out in late May - she was a social studies teacher for middle school and had taken a year's leave of absence on the premise of gathering info on other cultures and teaching methods for her class.
We set up our tiny little dome tent (unheard of then in Europe - most just had a puptent) at a campsite out in a giant field outside of town (Thalkirchen http://campingplatz-thalkirchen.de/?lang=en (http://campingplatz-thalkirchen.de/?lang=en)) Octoberfest being the huge multinational event that it is, the campsite was overflowing, with more coming in every day. The first morning we awoke to find the back of a schoolbus parked right over the top of our tent! 2 more feet and we'd have been squished.....
The event was held in enormous tents that held as many as 10,000 revelers, the tents were full of very long tables, we pulled up at the end of one in the Lowenbrau tent and ordered 2 beers. The beers were served in 1 liter mugs that were made from very thick glass and weighed a ton (I know because I sent two home) and the Frauliens who brought them to the tables were *ahem* strong German ladies - they carried 5 full mugs in each hand, I could barely lift one full one!

In the center of the tent was a raised bandstand with the oompah band playing away - one interesting note, the bandstand had an elevator, and anyone could go up and lead the band in your favorite drinking song! - everyone at the table had already been served several rounds by the tine we sat down and they were determined to teach us the words of the songs by getting right in our faces and singing VERY loudly, we didn't understand a word, but got into the spirit of things and raised out mugs and swayed to the music right along with the rest of the bench.....smiling all the time.
We went to several tents that night before catching the S-bahn back to the campsite - I have no idea how we found our tent again that night, and like I said awoke the next morning to find the bus providing shade against the morning sun by parking right over the top of us.
The next day our friends met us and drove us to a different venue, where they served turnips and some awful smelling cheese along with the beer.
I don't remember a whole lot more about the event, just the incredible size of the overall site and the huge number of drunk happy people in each of the tents.
I have a picture we took in the Lowenbrau tent, when I get a chance I'll scan it in - I have dozens of pretty incredible stories to tell from our trip, earthquakes in Greece, train derailments in the middle of the night, storms at sea, train robbers in Italy and the night we got to the youth hostel in Germany late, and were not allowed in! Spending two weeks on the Cote d'Azur, going from town to town along the coast, driving on the German Autobahn - in a 2CV, finding the tiny town in Switzerland where my grandfather grew up......many, many stories and memories......
My "holiday" splurge:
Sent wife to Beer store a few towns away to get limited releases for me. I would love to go but have no free time and probably will not until after the new year maybe. America is buying, building and spending like it is 2004 again. So I decided to spend all my money on alcohol.

I had lunch in downtown Ft. Pierce yesterday, a couple of blocks away is a cool liquor store with a saloon out behind it. I stopped in to see if they had anything cool on the shelves. I grabbed the Elijah Craig because I have heard good things about it and I thought I would try, since it is only about $30 bottle why not? The clerk was really nice we ended up chatting, she mentioned I was spending all my time in the Whiskey section, I told her that was what I like. She asked if I would be interested in a bottle of Blantons. Hell yeah!! She said she hid 2 bottles in the back from her boss, she said anytime something really good and rare comes in the boss takes it to the West Palm Beach Store. She decided to hide these so some clients up here could have something cool

A new one opened here a few months ago, they have a wall of gifting beers, you buy someone a beer, write their name on it and they can come get it. It does not have to be a person, you can write, 1st Reponders or Veteran, or active duty or Registered Nurse, Firefighter etc...
I have an idea for a caper, I will update when I pull it off.

Here is my opinion. I wanted to taste side by side with something good to see for sure.
I have some run of the mill Elijah Craig (EC) on hand so I had a small portion of that vs. the 1792 just to see if I was right and I am.
The 1792 is harsh, has more bite and has more of a alcohol / moonshine type of smell and taste to it than the EC. The EC is much smoother, has a more pleasant aroma and is just a much better spirit all around, especially since it is at the same price point.
I personally would not buy another bottle of the 1792 again. Not something I would crave for. So save you money unless harsh borderline paint thinner / moonshine type of Whiskey is your thing.
Taking one of these home to see if they're any good. Make them at home all the time using alcoholic ginger beer.

American sells a pretty good IPA in flight. I typically grab a couple when flying.

Also in the spirit of the drunk thread, Jen and I will be getting married in our local bar we met in. It's down in a tiny cellar and will have a 20s theme. We're friends with the owners and get the keys for the day. Our buddy Bill who introduced us just got his marriage licence for fun to marry our other friends. Since he's the "bar dad", our closest friend, introduced us, and can marry us, it only makes sense he perform the ceremony.

Putting my best man in the air bnb above the bar as well. 3 apartments up there, with the one half bar owner owning the entire building.

I was making an Old Fashioned and I am getting pretty good at it.
When we were in Orlando we ate at this place called Cowfish, we both got some Sushi which was actually really good there.
On the menu there was a drink that combined 2 of my favorite things. Bacon and Whiskey. It was called the Buffalo / Bacon Old Fashioned. I had to try it. Buffalo Trace Whiskey was used, that is where the Buffalo comes from.

I've had a ton of new airline students lately with no prior jet experience. My stress levels have been through the roof. Today my student damn near crashed in Chicago on the landing. I had to scramble and take over. Still managed to slam down and bounce the plane, ahh HARD. Hands down the worst landing I've ever seen in the jet I fly. Calming my nerves.
How many did it take to get calmed down all the way?
I usually do that when my boss tries to tell me how to run my machine. All he knows is that you push the green button to start it.
3 was the magic number. Once for each bounce on landing.
How many dirty looks from passengers? Yea that definitely sounds like a rough experience. Ouch.
I apologized over the PA and kept the door closed at the gate. Student is getting sent back to the sim before attempting any more real life landings.
If your co pilot was older I would swear he was my pilot on a flight to Atlanta. We landed 3X then too, I want to say I mentioned something to the pilot, who I was amazed was out in sight, that I thought the second landing was best. I may have just thought of saying it and chickened out, I honestly cannot remember.
I have not been partaking much over the last few weeks. Too busy.

Oh, I bought these a few weeks ago, Mrs5543 wanted to go to Total Wine to get some rare Tequila as a gift to our friend who just opened up her 3rd retail store and was having a grand opening.
You can get drunk shopping in there on a Friday evening!!
All over the store was tasting tables setup with samples (about 1/2 a hot to a full shot) being handed out.
I was looking for Proper 12 which is Conor McGregors brand whiskey. Priced at $25 a bottle I laughed, he knew his client base.
There was a table near the whiskey isle that was offering samples of Heavens Door, I had no idea Bob Dylan had put out a Bourbon and also put out a whiskey with a higher proof. I gave both a try and liked the lower octane Bourbon better.

I opened up a bottle I purchased 11 months ago this evening. I have some from April 2017 that are still aging. They are Dog Fish Head 120 IPA's.
This World Wide Stout is almost a year old, I have a 4 pack, 2 were opened this evening. I spent the entire weekend working on drafting so I can take a week off starting this upcoming Friday. I decided to unwind a little this evening, it has been a pretty stressful weekend and week last week. The upcoming week is going to be bonkers.. I do NOT want to take a week off Mrs5543 is forcing me to. I already threw a couple of temper tantrums.

I follow a guy on IG that used to manage the corner gastropub, he is now a rep for a beer distributor. He collects beer, some bottle he opens are 7-10 years old!!!!
Is beer good that long? I just always thought you wanted to drink it sooner than later.
Depends on the beer.
Strong IPA's and Stouts do well with age. Dog Fish Head seems to put out a few different beers that they suggest you let age.
If I had not tasted the difference myself I would have though that to be a rubbish statement.
There are other IPA's and general beers that are better fresh.
Yeah I never knew! When you come to town there's some prairie brewery beers you should take home to shelf then. Some of these are 13 point and I can only handle 1 because they are a lot of flavor. Depending on the batch they taste different too.

Guess there's not much of a story. So Skylar and I have been friends for years. When she left Tulsa to go live in Brooklyn I'd go visit occasionally. One morning after a late night out we found ourselves in a diner people watching as people walked the street. One guy had a hoodie with Farrah on it, and when he unzipped it, under was a t shirt with Farrah on it. It became known to us as the double Farrah. Since we both share bdays in December and the same sense of humor, I bought us all Farrah shirts to wear out on a day drinking bday celebration. Actually since she moved back to Tulsa our weekends involve a lot of shenanigans. The 3 of us together are a power trio for sure. She'll be at the wedding as one of my groomsmen as well.
I am actually scared to attend this wedding... for many reasons, some include alcohol poisoning, others include shenanigans I cannot possibly begin to comprehend nor understand especially when rocketing my way towards alcohol poisoning.

Ubers here are typically cheap, but save yourself a few bucks. Ubering from the hotel to any spot downtown, provided it's not 2am on a Friday or Saturday, is about $5-$7. The hotel is a block from my house and bar.

A month or two ago I stumbled upon a bottle of Buffalo Trace in a Wal-Mart liquor store of all places. I grabbed it since I had heard it was good. Good was an understatement.
I used to think Elijah Craig was a fantastic bargain of quality vs. price, Buffalo Trace is on entirely different level. Amazingly smooth and fantastic taste. Wal mart had it for sub $30.
Well, I was REALLY enjoying it, and the bottle was getting low, so I decided to go back to Wal Mart and grab another, none left. Went to ABC nothing and there I was told, good luck they fly off the shelves as fast as they stock them. Seems in Florida we get limited quantities.
Yesterday I had 15 minutes to burn, I was driving past a small mom and pop liquor store that is near Jupiter Island, which is a very wealthy area, I decided to go in and see. They had 5 bottles on the shelf. I grabbed two. ;D Sadly they were marked up, due to rarity, to $35 a bottle. Damn them.
They also have a bottle of Blantons on the shelf, except they marked it up to $170 from What should be about $80. I have a bottle on hand at home that is unopened, I will not open until I get a second one. That bottle shall remain sealed.
In the meantime. Happiness, looking forward to sitting on the back porch and enjoying this Buffalo Trace after a long work week.

I read about that the other day. I have mixed feelings too.
I have worked about 15 days straight leading up to a big vacation.
While it officially starts tomorrow night, I am so over it all. Time to numb the pain.
I worked in the field this past Saturday for most of the day, then all day Sunday drafting. Today I am far from done, I will be lucky to be in bed by midnight after getting to office at 615 this morning.
Tomorrow I plan on laving the office at 630 after coffee and deuce to do 3 jobs. Then I am hoping on meeting wife and younger kid for breakfast. Back to office until 3PM when I leave for almost a week. Last time I was off for a week was 2 years ago. My life is long weekends away now.
I decided to make some old fashioned's to get me through the evening, I guess my vacation starts now. ;D

Recovering this morning from Octoberfest yesterday. Many beers were had. Skylar didn't like hers so I ended up drinking two at a time while she found a wine booth.
Not sure how this tastes but it smells really good. The corner beverage store was giving out free cans, I took one home with a 6 pack of G20 IPA I purchased, a block from the house it exploded all over the place inside my FJ.
I guess the smell of coffee beer is better than gasoline. I had to get Stanley Steamer out to clean out the seats. I now have to figure out how to get the stains out of the headliner. Going to try blotting some oxyclean on it. I may also grab some of those Mr. Clean sponges.

I have had good luck with the foaming cleaning stuff in a red and yellow aerosol can (can't remember the name right now).
Just spray it on and leave it a while then wipe it over with a clean damp cloth.

But seriously had a good beer at TX state fair. Don't remember the brand but it was called "velvet hammer". Creamy like a dark Irish but a little bitey like a red. Alcohol content was up there too.

I forgot I had this. It is delightful. I think I have slept 15 hours total since Sunday. It is insanely busy here. Didn't see a single cow when we drove through Wisconsin. Started to crack jokes about cheese growing on all the plants we saw.
We're driving to Duluth Sunday. They're having a heat wave next week. 20 above normal. Of course that's still 4 or so below freezing. Packing some whiskey for sure.

Saw the new star wars this evening, decided to do that while drinking heavily because $10 beer make a movie rip off feel better. Now I am doing what I have done since I woke up this morning, drafting work before next week.
Maybe it was the two 22 oz pours of IPA or maybe I am losing my mind.
I felt it was good.
Here is the mindset. Go in drunk and with ZERO expectations like you never saw a Star Wars movie before and this one is actually half way decent, like a 2.5 star (out of 5) movie, just like the OG Episode 4 movie.
The acting is marginal,( FU you Phin!! ) the plot is somewhat predicable and full of holes and question marks... if you want to be a geek about the entire affair... OR... you can go in with the expectation of being distracted from real life for 2 hours and suck it all in.
No spoilers tonight, just saying it was pretty well done and tolerable.
I went in with VERY low expectations, left thinking, that was OK There was minimal SJW content which was a nice break from the last episode.
Would suggest to any Star Wars fan, go see it, it is episode 9 of a triple trilogy, close it out and move on with your life. There is even a reference to the ever allusive Knights of Wren, albeit brief and with no substance, they DO make an appearance... finally!!
Well worth seeing on the big screen.
This weekend took the girls to the performing arts center to watch the nutcracker. Also it was my 40th bday and Skylars 30th. Naturally we made a big night of it. Got a few hours sleep then painted Justin's truck bed.

I took my classmates out last Friday. Then last Sunday set the VP of the company up on a date with a lady I know. We had a double date with them, things went well, and now they're on date number 3. That being said I ended up in the company box at a hocky game today.

I don't know what happened, but I haven't had a beer or a distilled beverage in a long time - just haven't been in the mood. The ladies at work (nothing like Dan's friends :-\ ) gave me a bottle Christmas beer back in 2018 and I finally used it in something we cooked for dinner.

I had an 18 yr Bushmill that was finished in port wine pipes. It's been by far one of the smoothest whiskeys I've ever had.

Not yet! We're doing repatriation flights till May 5th. Then there may be an issue. I'm home this week awaiting to be assigned what's called IOE, which is flying a trip with an instructor to give me the final nod of approval. Maybe I wait a week, maybe I wait all summer. Good news is I'm off training pay.

I ran by the house to make a sandwich to bring back to the office and found a box had been delivered.
My first bottle did not come in a box, so I was pretty surprised by the box.

Well I've spent the past 2 days partying like a rock star with other pilots at the hotel before we blast off to Bulgaria tomorrow. Our captain pulled out a bottle of whiskey last night at 4am when the beer ran out. I knew it was time to call it a night at that moment.
Any of you know anything about the Bushmills numbering system.
I am having a hard time believing I have a bottle 50 numbers away from the bottle I purchased 3 years ago.
Could they go through such a small amount? Or did I just get lucky?
Am I looking at my bottle is 50 batches later than the 1st one, or 50 bottles later?
I found my answer, a friend from Ireland pointed this out to me.

The one captain probably had too much whiskey to go with however many beers we ended up having between the 4 of us. I'm sure he will be hating life today. There were several empty glasses not shown here that the staff had previously taken away before they left for the night. I'm waiting for the other guy to wake up so we can go hiking around today. Currently in the afternoon here and really nice out.

Took the E21 out to run around this weekend after a wash and wax. My FIL had never seen it before, I rarely drive it.
We had stopped by their house to drop some things off and pick some things up. My FIL and I sat out front and had a "beer" after he looked over the E21.
On a hot day it was surprisingly refreshing.
Jim, yeah the captain is all about the local stuff. On my walk yesterday there was a group of local guys with a couple cases of beer drinking by the river. Today I'm switching off the Guinness.

A very fine delivery came today. I was anxious to try the black bush which is the North of Irelands Jack Daniel's. It is very nice. Going to be getting more of that. Buffalo Trace is a fantastic budget minded Kentucky Whisky.

I am already 35 hours into a work week. I decided to dive into a bottle of Whiskey to alleviate the crushing stress.
For those of you that do not live in the caribbean. Hurricane season will not quit, no death and destruction (here anyway) this year, just LOTS and LOTS of rain. Which is messing me up big time.
Thunder woke me up at 0230 today which put me into a panic attack. We had several jobs that HAD to be done today. We were looking at a bad day weather wise.
Somehow, by a miracle we pulled it off.
I need to bump my other thread, I evolved some more and bought a toy. I feel like a super hero now.

JTS Brown No Ice!! - this discussion broke out on another forum. I set out to find JTS Brown to no avail. I was all about trying a cheap whiskey. I am game for anything.... except for butt stuff that is an exit only... for me... not thatthereisanythingwrongwiththat.
I found I can only buy JTS is Kentucky, I have a brother there, a plan is in place. ;D

So I did some research, seems JTS is made and bottled by Evan Williams. The Evan Williams White Label is essentially JTS. So I set out to find some Evan Williams White Label and found it at my local Total Wine, a handle was about $30, not realizing it was a handle (thinking 750ml here) I ordered 2.... woo!! I was in for some fun. I still have a handle as backup, incase the world ends. With all the stress I am under lately, its coming in handy.
I tried going dry for 3 weeks and actually did 4 weeks, then said fuck it, I feel no different, so back to my painkillers. ;D
Only thing I've had recently was a few Guinness while spending a couple days in Ireland. Only went out drinking 1 night in Bulgaria this last trip too. Had a shot of local honey vodka that was so so.
My alcohol consumption the past few months has dwindled drastically. This made me laugh.
Once a Month I meet some local surveyors for some beers at a micro brewery.
That happens tomorrow, it is pretty subdued since we all have to drive home.
I have a new poison, it is from a Tampa Brewery called Cigar City Brewery, the beer is called.... wait for it.... Florida Man.

I had dinner and a few drinks with the chief pilot from my former airline tonight. This is something local and new to me.
That Baby Shark can sure looks familiar, it seems like I have had that before somewhere but I am not sure where it would have been.
I am not a huge fan of most IPA's I have tried. I have been on a bock style beer kick lately, the doppelbock's tend to be the easiest to find in my neck of the woods. I also tend to enjoy stouts for the most part. When I get down to the city I usually try to stop at one of the huge liquor stores which generally have a better selection of less common beers.
Having one of these this evening that I found buried in the back of the fridge. Not my picture since my phone camera broke but you get the idea.
It has a very distinct aroma. I am thinking this would be a great summer BBQ beer, it's quite good but a bit expensive. The only place I have found these sells them by the single bottle and if I remember right this was slightly north $3 per. At least it's a true pint I guess.

I ate at a whitecastle for the first time about 2 years ago in Chicago. There was one beside the hotel that I'd stay at when I had to commute to work. Fast forward a year and in Dallas for a month of training and I decided to grab a pack of whitecastle burgers from the frozen food section at the grocery store. They were identical in every way.

Mahomes hometown (Whitehouse) is about 10 mile from my house. Yeah Whataburger is big here but Chickfila is huge. One has three takeout lanes and backs traffic out to the street all the time. They are building a new one in the town south of here. The spicy chicken sandwich is good.
O yea chick fil a is crazy. We have 2, both with 3 lanes. Crazy thing is I will get in it when it's that busy cause it's still faster than most of them with a 1/3 of the cars. Including whataburger.
Chick-fil-a and Popeye's are like the only chicken places that have a true spicy chicken sandwich and not just some regular chicken with a spicy sauce slathered on it, and Popeye's apparently is only a dream as they never have it "in stock".
I have never understood why none of the other places do it right.

You are probably onto something there, seems to be a sign of the times.
It a chicken place but I'm pretty sure Wendy's started the spicy chicken sandwich, and it was baked into the breading. Was the only reason I went to Wendy's. Well that and the dollar menu when I was in college.
Ah yes, forgot about Wendy's they have pretty decent burgers as well, or at least they used to. Unfortunately all the ones up in my area closed down for some reason. Seems like they are not as prevalent as they once were in other areas as well.
I don't get the appeal of some of these places? chick fil a opened here about a year ago it still has a line that blocks the cross street all open hours. So I had to try it worse than the wendys chicken sandwich but edible just.
Tried it again to see if it improved nope crappy fries mediocre sandwich I don't get it? A friend that is familiar with them said it's exactly the same as all of them so what's the big deal?
Also in the same center a cracker Barrell opened everyone was raving about it went there found out you can't get a beer and the food was subpar at best. Tried again after 6 months to let them get settled in food was worse and I don't mean just my opinion unless you like undercooked southern fried chicken like slimy pink undercooked 111.gif. My parents tried one in Ohio where they have been a thing for many years and said yeah that's about right so again what's the appeal?
We had an Applebees here that closed down but it was 1000 times better than cracker Barrell I mean it sucked just not as bad. Marketing I guess?
These southern places can stay there as far as I'm concerned.
Those corporate franchises food places really need to appeal to the masses so it's kind of a lowest common denominator type of thing regarding taste and preferences. Who the &$#^ really wants cheese stuffed into the edge of a pizza crust?
Probably like most of you, I prefer to go to locally-owned places where people have a lot more at stake in the quality of the food and service. I hope there's still some surviving after this pandemic massacre of small businesses.
Veering back on topic, I'm on week two of hanging out in Baltimore. Turns out there is a guinness plant down the road where we stay. Went through about 6 of these last night. On draft and 22oz.
Interesting. Stayed in Baltimore many times as it's the fly-in spot when we used to actually get to travel out to York PA for work stuff. Usually just an over-nighter near BWI but never had any idea they have a guinness plant there.

Every April I break out my bottle of 21 y/o and have a quiet glass alone, contemplating things. I noticed last year my bottle was getting low, so I purchased another online. I think a few pages back we discuss this.

That 16 y/o is an amazing dram. The 21 y/o is a once a year dram. I keep some black bush on hand for day to day crap. I am always amazed how good this brand is.
I had this bottle sitting around for years, so long the cork in the top dried out and had to be surgically removed.
The reason is sat so long is because I am not a fan of scotch I really dislike the peat taste and think it ruins the flavor, maybe my a pallet hasn't developed to appreciate Scotch's. I just do not like peaty ones.
I busted this bottle open figuring, what the hell, lets give this a try and I was very surprised how smooth it was, no peaty taste at all. Seems Speyside region is known for less peat and more smooth. I shall look for more form that region.

It is interesting the differences in the flavors depending on region. I've had 2 now from the highlands and really like them compared to your standard scotches.
The current is a Dewars blended 18 from highlands and speyside single malts.
The other was a Glenmorangie 18.
May have to look into some of these you guys mention. Also not a huge fan of the real peaty scotch but always thought the speyside stuff was not bad.
Much bigger fan of the Irish whiskeys, got some of that 12yo Bushmills at the plant when we were there a few years back, it's long gone now. Have tried the 18yo before but never acquired a bottle myself and I am sure that 21yo is top notch.
For a decent drinking whiskey I enjoy the Jameson special reserve 12yo. Unfortunately it is a bit higher priced than it used to be. You used to be able to find in for a bit under $50 and now it's usually closer to 60 if you can find it.
Vodka and lots of it. We celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary last night. I will not be at the shop today.

Working 7 day weeks. My "weekend" consists of Saturday and Sunday afternoon/evenings with the family.
Tonight...
1 year old 120 IPA's were tapped into (here is to you Mudhen!! Salute!!!) when they age sediment develops. I use a napkin to filter out the gunk. These start life as 12% beers as they age that increases, at 1 year I would guess maybe 14%, I typically age for 2-3 years. I have been so busy this last year I cannot find time to buy more. So I am almost out.
This evening we made pizzas, it is really windy here (35-40MPH winds) therefore I was unsure if the BGE would get hot enough. Well, the wind worked to help a new record high of 610° was achieved.
I was just looking and Mudhen hasn't logged on since October 2020.
That is sad.
I wonder if her is reluctant to post here for the same reasons I am.

I hands down work more at home lol. The past 6 months my average work month flying has been 17 hours. Sometimes I end up with overtime in that 17 hours, which I still haven't figured out but I'm not going to ask them either. My 16 day trip this month has me "working" 2 days and a total of 13 hours. Rode to Bulgaria in the back of a plane, hung out for two days, then rode Turkish Airways over to Germany to hangout for 2 days. Flew an hour to Poland then 2 hours down to Ireland, here for a week. Then ride to Bulgaria to hang out for 2 days, go to Kuwait really quick and come home, where I'm off for 2 weeks. Oh and when I landed in Instanbul on my way to Germany there was a young, and rather attractive girl, holding a sign with my name. Being business class means I'm VIP there apparently. She had me hop in a cart and she drove me to customs, took all my paperwork and info and processed me through, drove me to the executive lounge, they had chefs cooking food so I ate well, they drove me to some shops, I bought a really badass sports jacket, then they drove me to the gate. The whole time I was thinking what in the hell is happening. Lol.
When I say hung out in Bulgaria 2 days...partied hard with crews, pent house, hot tubs, and drank a lot of wine.

Ever had a brew called Spotted Cow? Apparently it is only available in Wisconsin and I am told is quite good and hard to get.
My brother in-law has some his son brought back from the state a while ago so I am going to try to get a bottle.
I've had spotted cow many times! In Appleton and Milwaukee.
Here's a first. The blueberry ale here is now served with them floating around in the beer. At least I hope that's what this is.

It's good. I'd put it in the same category as yuengling. Good cheap beer that's light and is mostly local to an area. Although yuengling has branched out in recent years.
nice, yeah yuengling is a lot more common than it used to be. A coworker from York PA and I spent a couple of months at one of the companies plants in Mississippi a few years back, he had actually found a place down there that had it and turned me on to it. I have not had it in ages though.

I first heard of yuengling about two months ago from a friend in Myrtle Beach - can't get it here, but I've heard that it's pretty good.

Been eyeballing this at Whole Foods for awhile. Finally decided to give it a go. It's like a really light Belgian. Fruit notes but in a very blonde type ale.

Was just in Iceland but not long enough to try any beer.
Been coming here since 2012. Finally figured out to bring old steins to avoid buying a new one.
Some lessons are harder to learn than others, in this case once you have a few steins under your belt you no longer care that you had to buy a new one so its one of those lessons that takes a little longer to sink in.
In Ireland today. They finally opened everything back up so walked to an actual pub instead of being confined to hotel beers.
I walked to the actual brewery since that last pic.
I'm sure they are so happy to have actual physical contact with their customers again!

My experience of the super strength beers, they are often terrible! There was a bit of an unofficial competition by brewers in the UK to make the strongest beer and it was just unpleasant. My friend described on as "it was like drinking a stock concentrate of beer".

Nice, so it would at least make a decent winter warming drink if nothing else. I guess I would have to look up what officially defines a "beer" but this certainly seems to fall outside of what I would consider a beer. Always fun to at least try new things.....well not always :grin:
