In my attempt at making things better I crashed the website pretty hard. This is the latest version of the forum software and there's sure to be some bugs to sort. I already see the attachments are missing.
test
Sorry to hear you have to go through this. We all appreciate your hosting this site!
I could not get in via a computer but my phone let me in
Will this post work?
( on my phone)
Using computer (Edge( not possible.
Now I am in via computer, but not sure my login was processed properly.
Just landed after an 11 hour flight. Standby. I'm aware it's all jacked up.
Ok what a royal pain in the dick this has become. I think we're "good" to go now. A small learning curve may be required with the updated layout. All the old attachments, and there's about 6 thousand of them didn't just come on over with the update. The file format is different and I have to find a way to convert them all at once or do them 1 at a time. So might be a bit before I figure that out. If you're logging in it may seem unresponsive but then suddenly logs you in. If you're on a cell phone you may get an error but then logs you in anyways. Please post issues in here as you find them or email me at 94touring@gmail.com.
Sideways photo test
Sweet. That photo would have normally posted sideways and required being rotated before posting. Looks like to get the attachment link to pop up from the quick reply box (at least on my cell at the moment) you have to click preview.
Picture attachment and embedded youTube video seem to work fine.
At some point during the next day or maybe week depending on how much time I have, I may have us down for awhile to see if I can get our attachments to populate. I'll have to uninstall us and reinstall with a backup from last month. Then run upgrades again. I fixed some issues within godaddy yesterday and have gotten familiar with their new system. It's changed a lot since back in the day. The backup system is completely different now too. No guarantees it will work but we're such a picture heavy forum it's kind of important.
These sorts of upgrades are always painful, hopefully it all goes smoothly for you! :13:
I did find, way after the fact of course, there's a clone option. So I could have cloned the forum, ran my updates, and fixed issues from there before syncing them up. If you use "forums" instead of "forum" you'll find the clone. This should actually help a lot with what I'm trying to do. I'll know next time!
Thanks for all your work on this Dan !

Thank you! Yeah I've spent probably 15-20 hours dicking around with this lol. Good thing for long overnights on the road. It's so far in between having to do major upgrades or resolve issues that I either forget what I'm doing or they change the whole system on the hosting platform and I have to learn it all over again. Way back when I set us up in 2009 I was very into learning website design and playing around with the forum software. These days it's the last thing I want to do or have time for.
How has the speed been for everyone? From researching it seems godaddy has the lag somehwat built into their servers. I find that if I delete my cookies and cache it's a slow paced turtle, but once they kick back in it's instant quick loading for me.
This is what I'm showing for mobile devices and desktops.
The speed is quite nice now. There is a slight delay when you first click to go to a new page or action, but then everything just snaps into place.
Sorry I caused all the headaches for everyone by asking about the earlier slowness.
Ha, yes nice job.
Well no joy on getting the old attachments to synch up. Can't even get the old backups to generate on a fresh forum install, keeps throwing errors. No clue why. All the backups on the new forum software load right up no problem. So we might just be SOL there. I'll keep researching what other things I can try.
Well, that's unfortunate.....there were a lot of important things in there....
If I go through 100 attachments a day manually everyday, in 2 months I'd have all the important stuff to put in an album to then have available for people to look at or put back into their post. I guess that's worse case!
Going to need to get a new gallery app for the forum. The previous one throws errors in my admin panel left and right. Uninstalled it and have to sort through some files to manually delete the media tab. There's a gallery that installs and is compatible but not having much luck importing over the old albums. Although there's not many and I can do them manually if needed.
Back on the topic of the old forum backups not working. I believe I've discovered the problem and it's related to the version number in the files not matching what it actually is. For example we were on version 19 but the one file that talks to the hosting platform says 18. I noticed that it kept saying 18 on the hosting platform but would never clear/update itself to reflect 19 when we were still on the old software. If I can find an app to save the files back to the format required I'm hoping the backups will work. Otherwise I have an app that can mass convert the attachments on file to viewable imagines.
Thanks for your work on this. It would be great to get all those images back.

And where they belong! I physically have them, but what am I supposed to do with them!?
Thanks for all the time and effort Dan updating the forum. Haven't visited in a bout a week and immediately noticed the change in format. Swung by the Lounge to see what was going on.
Garry
Thank you. Yeah just a nice crash going on! I need to find time to do that last attempt with the attachments. If that doesn't work then I may call godaddy again and see about them restoring the old forum just as an archive to have as links to the post with attachments. Or something that I can clone and keep messing with.
Figured out how to import over the old gallery to the new platform. Pictures are taking awhile to import so if you browse in there and notice some missing just give me time to keep importing them. I haven't messed with the new gallery that much yet but I didn't see a mass upload feature. I believe I can buy the pro version for that feature however.
wow, well done.....progress! :steeringwheel:

Yep. Woke up at midnight to mess with it till 330am rolled around to fly 5 hours from Baltimore to Riverside and next is 5 hours up to Anchorage. To then go back to work on attachments.
Don't take this as a complaint (not at all Dan) but where did the "like" buttons go?
(or maybe I am just not seeing them)
Appreciate all your work.
Just liked your post, so I'm seeing them. Do you see them now?
I see this has appeared:
"1 person likes this."
in tiny font.
Where did you "like" this at please Dan?
I bet I'll be embarrassed with the answer. It's probably right in front of me - DOH !
I'm not seeing the "Like" button either.
Interesting. Maybe there's a permission I need to turn on.
Like button works now. Had the permissions off.
Ok I bought the pro version of the gallery which has more features but primarily wanted the mass upload feature. The "bulk add" link is at the bottom of the page in each folder. Gave it a test of 80 photos at once and it was pretty quick. All the other folders that came from the old software are shown on the main page of the gallery, and each member can be found through the members gallery folder at the top of the same page.
Doing some more tinkering. Just expanded the page so it fills up the screen.
Also, anyone having issues getting logged out automatically? Might just be me since I'm going between two copies of the same forum.
Yeah it logs me out quite often.....I just log back in, but that sometimes still doesn't seem to work quite right. I just keep trying until it works. It just seems to stall out sometimes, not entirely sure what the issue is.
I do everything through a VPN so I try not to complain too much because of that. VPN's can do strange things sometimes so I never know if it's just me or something more.
I wasn't having any login issues till I did a couple uninstalls and reinstalls last night. I just cleared my cookies on my computer and that seems to have done the trick. Well that and I reset my bookmarks to https://www.restorationmini.com/forum/index.php
I will give that a go and see if it improves. The odd thing is it shows me as not being logged in on the home page of the forum....most of the time, and sometimes if I hit the login button I just get an error, other times it lets me log in. Either way if I just go to one of the sub forum pages it then shows me as logged in, whether I was or not on the main page. If I then go back to the main page it shows me as logged in.

That's kinda the way it's acting for me too. Sometimes logs me in, sometimes not. Some pages OK, some not....sometimes error out; (yes, you guessed it; sometimes not !) LOL
Keep up the good work.
I had some time outs but I was also doing some things on the server that was loading it up. Otherwise it's been stable for me. I'll have to get on my computer to check the login for consistency.
It has been stable for me the last couple of days.
We're also error free on my error log page. Whereas before we'd have numerous errors. I do like that I have a clone forum to work on and do trial runs with, which I can sync to this forum once I've determined everything checks out. Just wish I had known that before the crash!
Just logged in and am wondering what happened to a few things I had added or changed. Looks like the software automatically updated and now I have to redo the stuff it undid!
Automatic software updates, the bane of IT folks everywhere!
I see Godaddy redid emails. What this means for us isn't much unless you use the contact form or try to reset your password before I can get in and reconfigure everything. It's all dead till I get it linked up.
It might also affect the PM feature.
Quote from: MPlayle on December 29, 2022, 10:11:15 AMIt might also affect the PM feature.
It doesn't, already tested that.
Email server forwarding working again for the contact page or password reset. I think whatever I'm using expires in March, so I will plan on fiddling with this again in a few months.
Renewed our email system and security software for another 3 years today. :signspamani:
If you notice the "not secure" on the page it's because the renewal for security on the page didn't automatically carry over. I should have it fixed at some point shortly.
Should be updated now.
Oh and the website itself renewed today. Which I believe makes us 14 years old.
It seems like was just last year that we had the get together for 10 years...

I was thinking the same thing. Then realized we haven't had any drives or gatherings in awhile either.
The last RM drive event was April 2021 in Kerrville, Texas.
There's a CMU event in Oct, but I would put together an Ozarks run this summer if you all don't want to do that?
I would be up for an Ozarks run.
Test
There was a forum software update. Picture uploads changed slightly, but looks to be easier now. Should be self explanatory if you go to upload pictures.
Cool.....
My view looks better :49:
