So I'm installing an MPi fuel tank and in-tank pump setup on Tink. Flow rates and pressures all seem to be right for theninjection setup I'll be running, so I figured I should bench test it.
Here are some figures for yall when considering wiring and controllers for fuel.
Brand new pump pulled 5.5amps (@13.8v) peak on startup and full clog condition. I mechanically plugged the line to only let a small amount of fuel through to simulate a line blockage but not completely blocked to cause cavitation or an artificially low reading.
Nominal operation was 3.0-3.2amps (@13.8v) pumping a full tank on a recirculating loop. Small restriction added to simulate pressure regulator and in-line filter. Your amps will be lower if you run less restrictions.
Dry pump when out of fuel pulled 2.2amps (@13.8v) and was steady at that reading for 5 seconds. Stopped to prevent pump damage.
I'll be operating this on a fuel pump controller with a 7amp max. It allows for a 3 second prime then shuts off until it receives a signal from the tach. This prevents pump burnout and unnecessary loss when not running. The controller also turns the pump off if tach signal is lost in event of accident, engine shutoff from fuel starvation, etc.
Any other specs y'all are curious about before I pop it all in the car, let me know.
What injection setup are you going with?
What fuel pressure and flow volume are you getting with that pump?
I can't measure pressure right now, but the MPi was rated at 3bar at the rail I believe, so it should be more than adequate for that. I'm sure it over performs that number, but I'll be regulating it down to 3.5bar as recommended by Specialist Components for their 5 port Fuel Injection kit
I was able to get flow measurements. I measured the flow for 30 seconds 3 times at an unrestricted flow from one container to another and measured the output. 1800ml, 1775ml, 1800ml on all 3 tests. Average of 1792ml.
Change to 60 seconds for 3584ml/minute or 3.58 Liters/minute or 0.95US Gallons/Minute
So, accounting for my not so scientific test bench setup, I'd say it flows 1 Gal per minute at full flow rate.
Way more than that tiny engine will ever need!
Dan, I'm using the SC 5 Port injection kit with some small modifications for the other things I want to run on the car and gauges for IAT etc. But for the most part, it's the 5 Port kit and ECU from them.
I suspect it will be fine.
At one time I had a specification sheet for the Rover WFX100810 pump which crossed over to a VDO/Bosch pump. I found the specs on an Australian Bosch site. I can't find it now though.
One guy on the UK Mini Forum says he is using it with an engine that has 150 HP plus.
