I'm not sure exactly what's going on with the green Mini in this Japanese video, but it sure looks weird.

These are screen grabs. I'll post the video below. Do you think it's for extra storage?

Looks like it has latches on the back so it probably hinges open? I would assume it's just storage of some sort although I am not sure exactly what you would put in it since it does not look to offer much additional space.

My first impression was some sort of "copy" of the Westy Pop-up found on VW vans/busses.

So I was thinking that a Abraham Lincoln impersonator wearing a stove pipe hat would have the extra headroom needed when riding in the backseat....

It's an oil pan from a smallblock Chevy 305 he bought at the local AutoParts store and is just taking it home.
