Title: Smiths 8 cyl tach to 4 cyl???
Post by: Hercplt on January 10, 2021, 04:19:35 PM
Ok... I acquired a Smiths tach (RVI 1000)... its a long story but its marked for an 8 cyl engine.

Question... can this be converted to use on a 4 cyl??

Sure, probably read half speed tho   ;D

I'm not sure, but maybe you could contact Smiths and ask them?

Must look pretty cool for you to think about using it that way.  Pics?

I have no idea if this product can help.  I started reading but my eyes glazed over.

It is a nice gauge... but I'll likely move it along and source a 4 cyl version...

I modified one the other direction for a guy a few years ago. Not sure if it works in reverse or not. Used a timing light with RPM readout to dial it in.
