C'mon fess up!!!
And of course it's in Florida, huh Jim! ;D
Yeah, no surprise there. If you just visit there and do the Orlando thing then you really do not see the real Florida.
Rule of thumb, the further North you go in Florida the more southern it is. Case in point, Miami is Cuba. Orlando and coastal areas are Northeast and Canadian transplants. Myself included.
As long as you stick to the Coast you will not notice it being very backwards, head inland. Even I, who has lived here practically my entire life am still startled by what I see and hear in some of these small towns in the middle of the state.
We stopped off in Bartow on our way to Tampa to grab dinner, the restaurant was a very local place, the staff was delightful and all the clientele stared at us, we stuck out like sore thumbs.
On a trip home from Sanibel Island years ago we stopped at a diner in a little town called LaBelle, we were thankfully in a booth tucked away. We could hear the locals talking, seems they were bracing themselves for the "Nigger loving Yankees" (snowbirds) that were about to start showing up in about a month. My wife and I were just aghast and could not wait to get the hell out of there.
Fun to hear it confirmed......about the "interesting" folks who live in central Fla...... ;D
Had to be either Florida or Texas...although Ohio seems to be making the news a bunch lately, too.
Great story, though..lol.
