The regional carrier I fly for just secured a 6 year contract to fly for Delta, in addition to our American flying we provide. Needless to say I'm going to be busier than ever as I upgrade to Captain the first part of the year. I just spent last month in training for normal recurrent. The mini projects I do for others will be coming to an end, as I simply won't have as much time as a reserve captain.
GREAT. Climb the ladder.
Thanks 4.gif
That's awesome, man. Congrats. Glad I got my little beast done before you got so busy. haha
Great news Congratulations!. Out of curiosity does it involve Seattle? Delta expanding presence there I hear.
Sounds like we'll be getting Detroit, Cincinnati, and maybe a JFK base, so wherever they fly out of from there with regional jets.
Congrats Dan! I guess that seals the fate of my truck. Gonna source a local body shop to spray on the shape.
If you ever lay over in Florida (MCO, PBI, FTL or MIA) let me know. Dinner and beers are on me.
I may plan a trip down just for the hell of it. What all are you planning on for the truck?
When I use my phone to post on here, I swear it changes words on me. I have no idea what I was even trying to type up there.
I eventually want to sand it down, address the minor rust spots, fill in the holes around the edge of the bed where the turn buckles used to be and repaint it.
I cannot do that in my garage nor would I even want to try it.
I figured in the late spring I am going to take it off the road, pull the engine and see if I can find a decent shop to do the body work and paint while I tear down the engine and rebuild it.
I should make a trip down just to assess the rust situation.
The obvious solution is to say no...this is way more important than some silly job... ::)
Congrats!!
Well here's a kick in the nuts. :-[ This is a minor setback for now.
Just damn.
Worth pointing out we had some of their airplanes on property being setup by maintenance to start flying on the 5th of January.
Dan,
Bummer to see this, hope they sort it out soon.
BTW, this is my first post to your site. I've previously lurked a ton but never registered.
Thanks for doing your site!

That sucks, I would imagine there were some losses as well because of the failure to reach an agreement.
Hopefully, they can come to terms and things work out well for you.

Welcome!
Thanks Jim.
I take it you fly freight?
My brother worked in maintenance for one of the fairy big freight haulers till they got bought out by DHL, now he works for the air force fixing F-16's
My other brother is a captain for a biz jet company out of Oakland, so I'm fairly familiar with the ups and downs of the air industry.
I fly people under the Us Airways flag.
I hate to say it but I haven't flown in years.....I used to fly 6 to 12 times a year for business or to see family - now I drive. And with gas prices continuing to come down, I may do even more of it....
Got the official letter today I upgrade to captain in April and will be based in Laguardia.
Congrats! Will you move or dead-head?
I'm already based in Philly, so I'll just continue commuting.
Congrats Dan!
My wife and I just flew through there over New Years. In fact, I'll bet it's about to be quite a mess...

Captain Dan....
I like how that sounds and it shall be how I refer to you from now on.
Cap'n Dan...... ;D
Ha thanks. They called earlier and said training starts in 2 weeks. Doesn't finish till April sometime.
Finished captain upgrade training this morning. Talk about a stressful week.
Awesome, dude. Congrats. Go get a steak dinner to celebrate.
I flew to Lexington to see my lady friend. 62.gif
Way to go. 4.gif

Congrats Capt. Dan.
Any knee jerk reaction to the events last week? I wondered how it changes things for you.
Ya, I hope they teach you in your fancy training which side of the door you're supposed to be on. :(
Regarding the Germanwings incident, I look at it like this. There have been how many millions of departures in the past say 40 years, and how many crashes were due to a pilot intentionally crashing. You likely will never hear of a similar story again the rest of your life. Mental illness can be hidden and unpredictable. Unfortunately they didn't have a 2nd crew member policy like we have in the US. This would have helped. But even then if a pilot wants to take down a plane you could have 5 people up there and it wouldn't matter. We can have guns...and one guy with a gun can take out the others in the blink of an eye in that environment. I will still be leaving the cockpit to piss and not be worrying my first officer is set on killing me.
That is why I called it a knee jerk reaction.
It was such an isolated case it was nothing more than an anomaly.
I know how media can influence shit and I know they are just salivating. You know, reporting the plane crash with a gleam in their eye.
So, of course, something has to be done. /sarcasm
Yeah I knew what you meant. Likely all that's to happen is the foreign carriers will need to adopt our two crew members in the cockpit at all times.
I was thinking since this asshat pilot decided to end 140 lives over a piece of ass, maybe all airlines should only hire and train priests. This way we eliminate the vagina factor.
Boom!!
Pass that on to the FAA and NTSB.
I take cash or checks.
All I know is I will still leave to piss without worrying my first officer is set on killing me.

I'd think you'd worry more about some disgruntled stewardess... :-X
You mean flight attendant, this isn't 1970 anymore lol. I'm not too worried about them either, I'll just remove the disgruntled ones from the trip.

Wait, is there a chance of a disgruntled one being on one of your flights. 22.gif
You are indeed a real life Quagmire..... Giggity......
Oh yeah I've had a few. And yes I am a real life Quagmire!
Saw this, thought of you Dan.

Yup, a standard tool in any Nascar tool box as well. Yet, people freak and take a picture when they see this.
People are dumb is the problem.
I learned something new yesterday. Thought of you Dan.
Do you know what this is:

No idea, but based off of my days in small piston airplanes navigating by landmarks, probably something pointing toward something of importance?
*Raises hand furiously* ooh ooh ooh, Mr Kotter! I know!
Dan's right, they are navigational aids, from the earliest air mail routes east and west - especially out west.
Minidave is right. Early Aviation Navigation tools for the postal service.

I think that he is referring to the fact that the plane is from the USS Lexington? as a reference to your time spend chasing tail in said city.
Oh, I think he was referencing the tail alright. :-X
Looked it up and I can't find the meaning, though... ???
Oh I broke up with Lexington chick. Found a girl who lives above the bar in Tulsa.
Hint:
Look at the N# I am amazed it has not been removed.
I did notice that actually!
A friend of mine just finished building another persons unfinished Skybolt project, he just got FAA approval and now needs to apply for an N number. He was throwing ideas around and posted that pic as a joke, I was amazed, it is in a museum and no one has complained.
This is his Skybolt, he is obviously a licensed pilot and was just licensed for Helicopters too. He works for an international company that leases and maintains Helicopters to the oil industry and others.

It is definitely a Moody just not sure what year, I would venture a guess of mid 70's but I may be all wrong.

After 13 years using a standard set of David Clarks that crush my head, I went with their pro series headset. Half the weight, much smaller, and designed for jet use rather than light piston aircraft.
I bet those are like a treat. I would also imagine after 13 years there have been some technological advances that make the new ones much better.
I personally would have gotten pink though.
Well some advances for sure like noise canceling but that's about all I can think of. My old set was still going strong but they're just so big and bulky. Overkill for jet use. They still sell the same model today.

Well, you might get a chance to haul my sorry butt around one of these days.
Working on selling our house in Ohio (CMH).
Wife started with America West years ago. Merged with US AIRWAYS. Now she's been working on the merger with American.
Once settled, might do a little traveling.
Dimitris has asked I join him a drink in Greece. If I travel that far I might just have 2. Would like to look up jeg and Alex.
Seems easier to travel RJ's than the larger Air Buses anymore, well at least for none rev slackers like myself.
Best in climbing the ladder.
See you up yonder.

Oh very cool. Where is your wife based or is she a local agent? I'm in CMH every so often.
She worked from home for years. She took a promotion, works out at corporate office. PHX
Is she in HR by chance?
No, time and attendance, works with payroll. I call her a number cruncher, system is called Workbrain.

Nine and three quarters?
Guy that I worked with needed a hand with something and called out "Yo Yo Yo, 9&3/4 (nine and three quarters) can you lend me a hand".
I freakin cracked up! It stuck.
Little history. I was the night manager at a full service gas station. From fill ups to valve jobs. Only 2 bays.
Worked noon till 10pm. This is one of the busiest and loudest intersections in Columbus Ohio.
Was working outside , had my hands in the engine. This POS gas pump jockey-tire changer reaches in and (I've never gotten an explanation as to why, or an apology) hits the key.
Left index finger 1st digit is ripped 2/3's the way off. I , ummm, smarted a little, natural reaction was to pull away. I ripped the remainder off.
It was found and re-attached . Don't get down very often, watching it turn black, tissue die and fall off wasn't fun.
People always want to know if I beat his ass. I was raised not to hit women or children.
He's a cross between both. Bit of a pussy, wouldn't be right.
Anyhow, that's going to be the name of my garage or shop.
Guy in COMO Central Ohio Mini Owners is working on some art work for a sign. Not one I really want to own.
If I can't make fun of myself I have no business making fun of others.
So that's the story.
There was a guy who inferred that some how it was my fault and I should have known.
Yeah, same asshole just got banned at MiniMania.
I've got nothing but love for him.
Oh, an a hickory axe handle.
JFK, one of my better nicknames.
PS, Some of you have mad skills on computer stuff. I'd welcome your ideas also for a sign.
Jim put up a question with simple graphics.
It's along the lines I'm looking for.
Oval sign, retro fonts, think green background.
I don't want to hijack this thread, if you guys have free time and would like to lend a hand (no fingers though)
in the sign design post your ideas, maybe Sign for SxS in thread title. 77.gif
Well, my reference/pic was sort of a British reference. The train platform for the Hogwarts Express was 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station in London.
Having 12 year old and 22 year old sons, there was no avoiding the Harry Potter world.

Jim I just noticed you broke 1000 post. Aside from me I think you have the most post.
Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing.

I have been here 4 months longer than you, I would imagine in 4 months you will break 1K posts too.
Difference is, you probably do a lot more actual work on your cars than I do, so your posts are much more useful than mine.
I'm currently 4th, but I've only been here less than a year...... 62.gif
Yeesh. I'm 5th? I didn't think I posted here much.
On a related note, check out the new posts and new members this month! Epic.
