Title: Going looking at a parts car
Post by: sparetimetoys on June 12, 2014, 05:42:35 PM
Found one for $650 it's a 61 but has wipers, hood hinges, heater, good glass, engine and trans in unknown condition, door handles with cables, both bumpers with brackets, oh and all 4 of the old cool looking wheels that look like the old ford Mach 1 wheels. It's going to be a 2 or 3 day thrash and slash when it gets home then sweep up the rust and go to the metal recycle place.

Take some pics of this endeavor.

When I was really heavy into 2nd Gen RX7's I bought 3 of them, I tore one completely down then saw zawed what was left and slowly disposed of it in the dumpster at work.   ;D

I know a 914 when we got all the parts off and cut it up would bring $50 scrap metal.  I sent 3 of them to the smelter 62.gif  Ill post up some photos of the trip.

Must be really bad if it's that early and a 'parts car'...especially after some of the magic I've seen done by crazies on this site and other restoration threads!!!

Definitely interested in seeing what she looks like!

I'll post up some pics here. I go over to get it on Monday. I'll offer up what's left for the picking before its sent to be returned to bar stock. We did that with the 914s all the time. My record distance for shipping a chunk off one of those is Sweden. 77.gif. I know tsumini was looking for seats so I'll see if he wants these and I'll have a set of 2 hole glass for trading material. The body looks kind of dorky because it was deseamed at some time.

It doesn't look nearly as rough as I was expecting.  Can you snap some detailed pics when you get a chance.  I might be interested in the shell.  Would be better than sending it to the scrapper.

Yes. Detailed pics of it. Anything you don't need may be of value to some of us.

If you get it sorted soon enough, I've got a trailer that I may be able to work a deal with anyone in the OKC area to go grab it sometime.

Lol. That could be arranged if it's soon enough. I doubt he will have enough time to get it torn apart and what he wants done by next week some time. Besides. I have family in Flower Mound, Tx which is basically down the street from Plano. So if someone paid the cost of fuel, I'd be able to go down, grab it, and bring it up on the trailer. But the timing would have to be right, because the trailer is going up to St. Louis shortly after I get my car home.

Stopped at Tyler cause the sun is blinding driving west. Here are some snaps from pickup. I'm betting I can have what I want off of it by next weekend I'm keeping the engine Trans and front sub the way it sits. The interior I need to look over. And the wheels are ones I like.

Looks like Pos-a-traction wheels. Don't see them too often. Had some but passed them on several years ago. Still like em.

I like the patina!  that Brit flag rusty thru is just calling me!  The other side-- not so much!

I could nearly see that side - Cut down about 6 inches wide and hung ona  wall for decoratoin!

Looks like some other british treats along the wall where you picked it up!  Also Rough@!

Ok the car isn't worth saving. It's shot from the big crossbeam the seats bolt to forward. Left door is ok needs some work right door is falling apart as I go. Ill save its glass and hdw but the frame is toast. At one time this must have been a sporty little car. The back half is fine the kids want to make a little tailgater trailer out of it. It was deseamed who knows when and it has no vin plate or FE number. The plate on the slam panel looks like a state assigned vin

If no one else wants to roof I am willing to purchase it from you and pay the shipping.

I would love to hang that up as a piece of art.

Hey - Thats my idea-!!!  Go all in- Full Car side!  == No I dont want it!! Its yours.

Sparetime  - - Were'e gonna re name you the 850' man!    Looks like your car  has a 'trick" shifter....Ive seen pictures of it before but an aftermarket linkage assembly to the ole 'Puddin Stir'er' .  Keeps the stock shifter hole and gearbox in the front of the fire wall - but that kit- moves the shift linkage back and more centralized.  Better- worse -- I do not know ...  ( my moke has Puddin Stir'er) it works - but if speed shiftin yea i could see moving it down and back.

Ive never used one personally- and only seen pictures but it looks like you have the trim cover ( bin ) that makes it just right ==  you may really want to install that on your project... Neat part for a puddin Stir Box!

I know that is why I asked.  Sparetime, my offer stands. A chance to make a little money off a part that would most likely be tossed.

Ccol. I have been making good headway getting my parts off. I had to stop for the night for a CWS baseball watching party. I told you in my email reply what the only snag I'm having is.

No rush.  I'm only backed up a year with projects.   I have these fancy mk1 panels sitting in my shop, might as well put them to use.

So we took the red stick (that's the name the kids gave it) off jack stands and onto my furniture cart. We are going to remove a section of fence tomorrow and hide it in the back yard until it gets loaded for the trip north.

For those who don't get the red stick that's what Baton Rouge means and where we picked it up.
