I've been finding what I think are carpenter ants, but the only place I find them is my shower floor. I don't see them outside anywhere or in other parts of the house. I figure they're after water, but I have no idea where they're coming in from or how they get into the shower - and here's the weird part - they're all dead!
I find anywhere from 5-10 dead ants on the shower floor every morning.....a real puzzle. I'll get some spray and go around the obvious places and see if it makes any difference. I don't know if these ants like Tero or not.....but that works on the tiny ones we get in the kitchen sometimes, in the spring and after a good rain.
I know carpenter ants can be really destructive so I need to find where they're coming from and see if I can redirect them back to the outside and somewhere else other than my house.
We had the house treated for termites years ago, maybe it's time to call the guys with the real chemicals again?
The curious part is - what's killing them?
They sell stuff called Amdro Ant Block (looks like it may be called Amdro Ant Killer now?) at the big box stores. In my experience it will take care of carpenter ants and pretty much any other sort as well.
I have only used the granular stuff and spread it around the perimeter of the house when I start to notice the little bastards inside. Usually about once a month or so depending on weather etc... they say it's bee safe since it's granular and bees don't go after it, but I usually spread it early in the morning or later in the evening when bees are less active just because.
