In fine ADHD fashion, I put myself in another pickle because I am a hyper moron who moves too fast sometimes.
The AC compressor on my house is on its last legs. It was 2 months out of warranty and needs a new coil. Replacement coil costs $8,500.
The AC company suggested replacing the entire system instead, of course! $8,300 for a 3 ton 14 seer unit. I have a 3 ton 17 seer on there now.
I decided to look online and see if I could find my compressor, I found one in ebay for 3K. I got excited and purchased it then set out to see what kind of shipping we could do, "Pickup only!"
Panicked, I asked to cancel the order within seconds of seeing this, seller declined to cancel the order. Asshole.
So I need to make domestic freight arrangements for this to be picked up.
Even if it cost me another 1K for freight it would be worth it. The compressor is brand new in the box. (according to the listing and pictures)
Any suggestions? This is not something I do every day.
Where is the item located?
Compressor is in Tujunga, California, 91042
Need to go to Jensen Beach Florida, 34957
I am thinking about contacting Estes or Fedex unless someone has a suggestion.
Estes is $1,100
FedEx is $1,200
You're talking about the entire condenser unit that goes outside, right? How old is it just for curiosity's sake?
You're talking about an LTL on a pallet, right?
Look into Blue Line. Fastenal trucks move all across the country, and they will haul your freight (must be on a pallet) to the nearest Fastenal store, you'll need to pick it up there. However, the seller would have to deliver it to the Tujunga Fastenal store.
Also, look into Uship. I've heard of lots of guys who have used them successfully and supposed to be way less than the usual suspects.
The unit is 10 years 2 months old.
There was a 10 year warranty on the coils, they expired 2 months ago.
If we had caught this a few months ago I would have received a free coil and just had to pay install costs.
I was talking to my nephew who is in HVAC on the commercial side, he told me to find a Compressor that matched mine and he can toss it in in less than 1 hour.
I got really excited when I found the same exact compressor I have and just hit the buy now button as the price was fair ($3500)
Even with 1K in shipping this will buy me another 10 years or more, I learned a lot about these units with this failure. You need to clean the aluminum coils 2X a year with a treatment that preserves them too. I never did that and I doubt the HVAC company did it when I had my system serviced by them.
Nothing lasts anymore everything is made to fail.
I am pissed at myself with my office AC. I replaced a 30+ year old system that worked perfectly due to a rusted out drip pan. I wish I just replaced the pan, for the first few years I was in this office I never had a problem with the AC. The AC I have now is always giving us problems and the evaporator coil in the air handler is failing and being replaced tomorrow, that coil only cost $1500 plus install.
I'll check out U-ship. I do not think the compressor is on a pallet its in a box.
I helped a guy install hvac units in NC along the coast forever ago during a summer. He would spray them down, inside and out, with lithium grease to keep the salt air from rusting them. It's probably something to do once a year in your area as preventive maintenance.

I was surveying a customers home on the beach years ago, when I walked near the AC unit under the house (on stilts) water was pouring out of it. I called the caretaker of the property in a panic, he laghed and explained they have sprinklers on the units on a timer that washes down the units once an hour.
They were replacing 1 unit a year due to rust from the salt air, after installing the sprinkler they were lasting many years.
U-ship netted me a $985 quote from XPO Logistics.
Speaking of sprinklers I ordered this for my home unit. I sort of built something this out of a yard mister. I was stumped as to how to turn it on and off. This was a little spendy but sorted that out.

I am also working on a quote for this, it will reduce my AC use making it more efficient and heat my pool at the same time. It will cost about $2K. I wanted to do this 10 years ago, I am finally taking the leap.

The other thing that is troubling me is I have no idea where to pick this up from.
I asked the seller for a pickup address lets see if he replies.
It took him 3 days to reply to ebay when I asked for the sale to be cancelled.
I just messaged him and asked if its on a pallet and where it can be picked up so I can book a Logistics company to come get it.
How long do I wait before I lose my patience with this cat?
He does have a solid selling history and reviews right? Lol

100% positive 388 reviews.

It will probably need to be on a pallet for any LTL company to pick it up......I don't know about Fed Ex and the like
I'm in Kansas, so no salt air to deal with but we have plenty of other contaminants in the air, plus mine is in an unfortunate location, right in front of the dryer vent which means I have to blow the lint out of it about once a month in the season. Just did it yesterday in fact....I'm fortunate that my hose reaches this far and I have plenty of air cause it takes a lot to clear it - that fluff really gets embedded in the fins.
I give it a treatment once a season, where I pull the fan, foam it good and clean it well. Going on 15 years now since I changed it out myself.....Lennox unit.
This is starting to get sketchy AF.
I reached out to the seller asked for pickup address.
They replied: Do you pay yet? - That was the entire reply.
I just told him that I have my pickup code and yes I paid, and to please provide pickup location, contact person and a phone number for the logistics company to coordinte.
I am trying to keep the bad thoughts out of my head. I hope this clown is legit.
:undecided:
Cut and paste from Ebay:
Quotedear customer sorry for the delay ,
we chest fined out with Ebay that there was some issue
when do u want to pick it up - and who will pick it up
tnx
I have asked 3X now for a physical address, a contact person and phone number for the logistics company. I keep getting run around.
Look into sending your messages to ebay to get a refund. It's been forever since I had an issue like this, but I sent them all the bogus messages and "runaround" and was given a refund pretty quickly.
If I do not get an address from him by tomorrow I am going to Ebay and demanding the sale be cancelled.
Holy shit I am dealing with a fucking retard.
I asked 3X for the address, a phone number and person to contact so I can give that to the shipping company.
I have now asked 4X.
I also asked if it could be placed on a pallet. I knew better than to ask but I did anyway.
Quoteit is as shows in the picture , also i can send u more pictures tomorrow .
let me know when and who will pick it up pl
Thank u sorry for the delay
we contact Ebay and find out they send our money whiten 4 day
ur good we ARE READY to sheep it out
I am ready to pull my hair out of my head.
Went back and read his 100% reviews and they are copies of each other but from different users. Makes me think he's a scammer.
Take the evidence provided by Dan and contact ebay to report a scam and bail on the transaction.
The guy is dragging it out long enough for ebay to actually forward him your money and him to transfer it away from ebay to prevent reclaiming it.
If the seller actually has the unit, it probably is broken.
If this was Mini, you'd have spotted it as a fraud right away.
Invest in a new unit from a legitimate seller who will provide a warranty and service, who has a legitimate place of business whee you can go throw a brick through their window if things go sideways.
LOL @ legitimate seller.
The AC company was $8,500 for just the coil. I was either getting ripped off to my face or anonymously online. LOL!
Just filed a claim with Paypal to reverse the charge.
Ebay is about useless, they will not help me for 2 more days, then they will step in after this cat is long gone.
And yes, lesson learned, items like this will not be purchased online unless I can vet the seller. It was dumb of me to be so trusting. I sometimes forget there are assholes out there that exist to steal from others.
Has it been 3 business days yet?
I have to wait until 6 July for the "seller" (scammer) to respond to Paypal over my charge reversal.
His last communication sent me a fake address in LA when the item is supposed to be in Sunland / Tujunga it he claimed it was in Glendale now almost 20 miles away from there.
Then he stated he sold the unit I purchased and had a similar unit to ship instead. I stopped communicating with him.
I sent all this info to Paypal, including him telling me sold the unit off.
I'll know next week what the deal it. My BIL's older brother is coming over Saturday to install 2 Mini splits.
My nephew is a commercial AC guy, his boss said he will get me a hook up on a residential unit and the nephew will install it on the side for cash. We have not hashed out a deal yet, I am in no hurry, the AC is fine its just not optimum and it on its last legs. I would love to wait until this winter. I doubt we will wait that long.

Thanks for the bump BTW I forgot to send Paypal his last message telling me he sold my compressor to someone else.
