Title: Oil pressure light question
Post by: ADRay on May 08, 2025, 05:33:11 AM
My mini wouldn't start yesterday, and the amber oil pressure light was off. I understand this is the low oil pressure lamp, checked oil level (it is low), but didn't have more to top off on hand. Bought more this morning, will continue this evening.

My specific question is, if the low oil pressure light is on, will it also disable the ignition? I've visually checked and cleaned the plugs, coil has power. It cranks but doesn't fire up. ('82 with 998 A+)

Thanks in advance for answering yet another of my questions.

No it doesn't disable the ignition.

Thanks. Looks like I have more to investigate.

The fact that it's not on when the key is cycled would make me wonder.....you sure you have power going to the coil?

I mean it could just be a bad sender, and the first thing I would do is disconnect it and see if the car starts.

Like Dan says, there is no low oil pressure cut out in the circuit, but I wonder if a short there could make it not start - same circuit.
