I attempted to ship a 7x7x5 inch box that weighed maybe 2lbs. It was quoted $200 from both UPS and Fedex and as little as $108 from usps to go by row boat and carrier pigeon. I was simply trying to mail a specific air filter with base plate for a guy to use as a template to do some custom plastic print stuff for me. I ended up just going on ebay.uk and buying a new filter assembly for him to copy the dimensions of the baseplate from. Cost me $37 shipped. I'll have to provide a couple additional dimensions that won't be on that particular filter setup, but for $200 I can send over the extra details via email. :rolleyes:
Yes, shipping anything especially overseas has gotten pretty stupid expensive (unless it's coming from China in one of those grey plastic envelopes :rolleyes: ) my last few orders from Spares have been twice what I used to spend, even more if it's a large (not necessarily heavy) box.
The USPS is in dire shape, I've read that Illinois has packages from before Xmas that haven't been delivered, warehouses with literally millions of boxes in them, and 500 truck drivers based in Iowa for the carrier that hauls the semi-trailers full of mail over the road have gone on strike.
Doesn't matter who you want to blame, the lesson here is don't use our mail system right now.....
I've ordered stuff domestically recently and it was normal. A couple were free shipping due to the amount I ordered. I thought maybe 50 bucks to the UK given the package size and weight. I could just toss the thing in my bag and ship it from Germany in a week. Oh well. Is what it is.
I was quoted around $35 to have a $6 throttle cable shipped from UK. Bought domestic after all.
Not international, but a domestic shipment for a bike in a box from Cape Cod to the North shore of Massachusetts around 100 miles away.

I just received (6) 5/8 x 24 stainless jam nuts from China for $26 freight included, I got them in 2 days, the cheapest I could find US sourced was $10.99 for 2 with $8.90 freight. How can they charge so little for the nuts that they can make any money, are we talking pennies profit?
Air China must cram the stuff on a 747 with minimal profits. No clue.

Did they actually come from China, or were they in a warehouse in the US already and drop shipped? Just curious, cause my wife used to buy lots of little things for the dogs, and they always came in those grey plastic wrappers, usually within a few days.....

They definitely came from China the original tracking had them leaving some place called Shinzeng. The listing said they would be shipped via a Speedpak. I bought them through eBay, the original eta was supposed to be next Thursday I was surprised they arrived today.
Update to this. He's finally done and about to ship the filter assembly I bought plus the special velocity stacks. Much larger size dimensions than what I was going to ship there when I was quoted $200+ Shipping this way to me....$32.50

Never got hit with anything. I ordered a 2nd set from him a couple weeks ago and also didn't get dinged with fees. Additionally I shipped some things to a guy in Canada and postage wasn't a big deal at all, aside from there was more paperwork to do now. Little did I know there's a postal strike in Canada so it hasn't been delivered and I should have used ups or FedEx. I have another item I'd like to send to a guy in Sweden I chat VWs with. But I will end up bringing it with me on a work trip eventually and shipping from Ireland because it's simply too expensive for what we're doing to ship from home in the States.
I just ordered about $900 of stuff from MiniSpares, waiting to see if I get hit with tariffs - shipping is getting pretty spendy....I ordered some items that are long and skinny but not heavy and shipping was £120!
