I need to rebuild my HS4 carburetor (1982 with A+) but I'm not sure if I need the Waxstat jet or not. Is there an easy way to determine this? Thanks
red jets are the waxstats IIRC, but I always convert them to the standard, it just works better and more consistently.
Edit: red jets can be either waxstat or not.....but again, I prefer the std jet..... makes tuning much easier.
ah, so it's a choice?
Yes, if you have a waxstat now you have to modify the choke linkage a tiny bit, but it's very simple. Check YouTube for a vid on how to do it.....
excellent, thanks Dave.
would this be what I would need for a full rebuild?

Even with overseas shipping and currency conversion it will be cheaper to order the same kit from Mini Spares:
https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Fuel/Carburetors/Repair_Kits/CRK219.aspx?130205&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/Fuel/Carburetors/Repair~Kits.aspx|Back%20to%20shop (https://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Fuel/Carburetors/Repair_Kits/CRK219.aspx?130205&ReturnUrl=/shop/classic/Fuel/Carburetors/Repair~Kits.aspx%7CBack%20to%20shop)
Using XE.com for the currency conversion, the Mini Spares kit prices out at about $81.50 (plus shipping) versus $139.00 (plus shipping).
I agree with Michael, but as they're out of stock at MiniSpares if you want to get it quickly Moss might be the right answer.
The same kit is available from Mini Mania (usually the last place I shop) for $100 plus shipping, just FYI https://www.minimania.com/part/CSK52/Classic-Mini-Su-Hs4-1-1-2-Carburetor-Service-Kit (https://www.minimania.com/part/CSK52/Classic-Mini-Su-Hs4-1-1-2-Carburetor-Service-Kit)
MiniSport also has it in stock, about the same price as Moss and it also has the throttle shaft. If there's no play in the shaft I don't bother changing it or the throttle plate - those plates wear only on the edge, but I don't find that to be an issue. If there is play in the shaft you need to rebush it anyway, and that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish!

thanks gents. I usually use Mini Sport, but I couldn't find a the complete kit on their website.
