I have that problem with this site once in a while.....at any rate, it's early days - I'm sure Whee will get it sorted out well before the January open date.
I'm looking forward to this event - I did a Rushmore weekend with the 5280 club with my 2009 Clubman S when it was new, I'm ready to go back....we did the Devil's Tower run too and that was majorly cool! One of the most amazing thing I saw at DT were the pictures taken in the early 1900's of women with bustles standing on top of the tower.....there was a wooden ladder that ran up the side and folks could climb up to the top! The remains of that ladder are still there in places. While we were there we saw a number of people climbing the sides, I guess you can apply for a permit to climb the tower, but the number is limited each year. I would love to be able to go to the top of that thing!
I'll see if my friend Don can bring his drone and get some pics of the top at least.

We vacationed up in the Custer state park area for many years, probably 5 or 6 at least. Always a nice place to go so long as you are not there around the 4th of July or in beginning of August for Sturgis. This is probably far enough removed from the 4th so as to not be quite so busy.
Devils tower is a National park and generally speaking drones are not allowed, just like metal detecting.
And just because I was curious, this is from the devils tower website.
https://www.nps.gov/deto/learn/management/lawsandpolicies.htm
Aircraft
The National Park Service requests that pilots of aircraft maintain a minimum distance of 2,000 feet above the nearest ground mass within national park units. Additionally, there is a 2-mile no-fly advisory zone around Devils Tower (3 miles in June). The use of remotely piloted aircraft, or drones, inside of Devils Tower National Monument is prohibited. Regulations regarding drones are discussed in the above-linked Superintendent's Inventory.

Thanks, will look into it. Link works for me, which is a little odd!

I tried a couple of browsers, firefox and chrome on two different computers, same result with the https protocol. Could be my ISP Comcast/Xfinity though.

I get the same errors if I use the link "as-is".  If I type it as Dave did (http instead of https) then it works - the redirect processes without errors.
I am using the latest Firefox on an older MacBook Pro.

Changed your intial link so it links.
I'm planning on carving out time to make this event.  Would love to bring the Inno.

Registration will go live February 1st!

Cool, I've been wondering when it would drop.....

I am interested, but have never been to any of the big Mini Meets.  Anyone willing to be a guide for a "newby" to such an event?

No guide needed......just show up and have fun! Dan is planning to go, I'm going, Don is going with his Pup so there will be a few folks you know right off the bat. I think once you get there you'll find all kinds of familiar names that you can now put with a face and car!
The events are well organized, and always include a few drives around the area, an autocross, a car show and I'm sure some other fun things to do. They also leave some "empty" times so you can go off on your own if you want. This area has a TON of cool things to see - including Mt. Rushmore and the Devils Tower (which I'm planning to go see again)
The roads are generally well kept and lots of scenic drives to do....and of course you're welcome to hang with us. For me it's a kind of a reunion - I get to see folks I haven't seen, sometimes in years.
See if you can talk Bruce into coming?
I may stay over a day or two extra - or get there a day or two early, not sure of my exact plans yet, but there is so much to see and do around there.
You can go look at any of the previous MM and see pics of the events, they're all over the web.......or, like I said, just show up!

I don't think I have much to add to what MiniDave said! Probably the biggest decision is how you get there. Caravan with others, or solo? Once there, the event will have plenty for you to do.
We are making a special effort to make 1st-time attendees welcome - but as Dave says, you're going to know ppl there already.

I have one small suggestion.....nametags - maybe with a pic of the owner's car on it, so people can associate car with face and name?

There's nothing unusual about having name tags with the person's name and hometown at a Mini Meet but including a car photo would result in additional challenges for the organizers.

OK, name and common screenname used online?
Whatever format they take, it should be a large, easy to read font, so you don't have people staring at your chest while they try to read your name
One event I went to they gave out race style lanyards with the clear covers that hold credentials, then the tag could be as big as the holder

Years ago (before Restoration Mini was born) someone thought it would be cool to have the option of having our Mini Mania screen names added to the name tags. If only I had a nickle for every non-Forum member who asked me what Scargo signified....

We spent quite a while on this topic. We decided not to try the photo on name-tag - it is quite challenging. We *will* have car photos linked to participants for the awards banquet though.
Large print on name tags. Good feedback, I am passing onto the responsible committee member.

Look at that S car go?
But you have to admit it's a good conversation starter! Mine is fairly unimaginative.

I paid my registration fee a moment ago. I plan to caravan up with Dave and Don.  Suppose I should reach out to Dean to see if he wants to join us.  Still undecided if I'll drive or use my trailer to haul.

I'm in! It'll be fun caravanning up.....it's an 11 hour drive from my place but we're going to push on and do it straight thru.

				Carhenge

Carhenge is only an hour out of your way :)

Went to it the last time I was in this area - fun!
My blue Clubman S on the end....

A few other fun things to see and do while in this area.....
If you look closely at the pic of the tower, on the right side you can just make out the remains of the light brown wooden ladder that people used to be allowed to climb to go to the top. At the museum there are pics of women in bustles and high top button up shoes on top of the tower, pics from the late 1800's is my guess. Also, if you look closely further up - about 3/4 or more to the top on the side near the ladder, you can see a white spec. that is a climber - you can get permission to climb the tower but you have to apply well in advance as they only let a limited number do it each season. I would love to go to the top, but no freakin way I'm climbing it - even with a ladder!
A group of about 10 of us went to Devil's Tower that day, as we were getting ready to leave a group of Mustangs came roaring in - there's a very limited number of parking spots around the museum lot- one of the women got out and yelled to the rest of the group "it's OK! The little cars are leaving!  :-)
If a group of classics go, we can park them two to a spot, nose to tail.

I managed to get registered and made reservations at the host hotel.  It looks like I will be going solo - Bruce is not going and Craig does not have the time available.

Glad to hear you're going, but it's early days yet.....there may be someone from one of the local clubs you can roll with.....
What days are you going to be there? Looks like nothing really going on till Tuesday......I was thinking of getting there a day early and taking some short side trips, after driving for two days to get there I won't want to spend the next day in the car too!
Devil's Tower is just over an hour away, Deadwood is close by and you can get out and walk the street and see all the old historical stuff. Of course, Rushmore is right there too - it's super impressive if you've never seen it before.....and the Crazy Horse monument.
Edit: Looking at the schedule, it looks like there is a lot of free time (for me anyway) in the early part of the event......Monday is meet and greet, Tues the car show but that's over by early afternoon then the rest of the day is open. Wed is the autocross which I'm not going to run so other than watching, that day is open too. Thursday looks to be a full day, and Friday we head out home.......so I'm thinking I might arrive Monday night, leave Friday.

				From the Planning Committee:
Folks, on behalf of the organizing committee for Mini Meet East-West 2024 in Spearfish, SD from July 8-11, 2024, thank you so much for pre-registering for this very fun event. This every-five-year event allows you the opportunity to see cars you may have never seen before.

The Committee has a full week's worth of activities planned for you and your family, and with Spearfish being in the middle of the Black Hills, there is so much great scenery and wonderful driving roads for you to enjoy. We don't care what you drive (well, partially true), we just wany you and your friends to come and enjoy the event.

Please spread the word... If you have Mini/MINI friends who may not have registered yet, please encourage them to do so before May 24th since that's when the "early bird discount" comes to an end (although Registration will be open into mid-June at the full price). And remind them this event is for classic Minis, new MINIs and KIDS TOO. We have several activities planned and special gifts just for the kids.

As a reminder, below is quick "high-level" summary of the Events Diary:
Monday, July 8: Registration and a Welcome Meet-n-Greet
Tuesday, July 9: Mini Meet Car Show and Auto-Cross early inspections
Wednesday, July 10: Auto-Cross and Funkhana
Thursday, July 11: Rally Through The Black Hills and Closing Banquet

In addition to these "High Level" events, there will be numerous other events taking place during the week including the panoramic photo, Hot Wheel and Rocker Cover Racing, and much more.

The town of Spearfish is a ten-minute drive from the hotel and is picturesque "Small-Town Americana". About 20 minutes away is the town of Deadwood, which reminds you of an old western town. And, if you've ever wondered what the motorcycle haven of Sturgis is like, that's also only 20 minutes away.

The website link is http://minimeeteastwest.com or https://minimeeteast.regfox.com/2024

Please reach out if you have any questions (24eastwest@gmail.com).

Looking forward to seeing you in less than eight weeks!! SAFE TRAVELS!!

Thanks
East-West 2024 Committee

King Standard Mobility Accessible Roll Shower
I looked on the site at the descriptions of the room and none exactly match this.

				Designed for wheelchairs.

				Right, ADA compliant.....

				Thanks guys
Now I just need to make reservation Santa Monica to Chicago and back to Spearfish...

Early Registration ends May 24th, after which the price goes up.
The event takes place July 8-12.  Here is a link to our website: https://minimeeteast.regfox.com/2024
We also have a Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/175211038818761
We are delighted by the registrations so far. We're already bigger than MMEW 2019. Come join us!

Booked the room today. Looks like the cutoff for the group rate is tomorrow.

Looks like Don with his Pup, me with my Racing Green, Dan with his Inno and Dooder with his Mini will all be traveling together, see you all in Spearfish!

I am still planning on being there.  I will try contacting folks when I arrive sometime on Monday, July 8th.
 :great:

Watch for the Hairy Lime Moke and the Aqua MKII.  I'll be there as well.
Tim.

We have an AWESOME number of cars coming. Still time to register. Still rooms in the hotel block I believe. Drop everything, hop in your car and I'll see you there!

How many have registered so far?

well I think I'm almost ready to go after my last minute repairs to the suspension on the Racing Green.
I still have to finish the trailer wiring on the Audi, but I know what wires I'm Looking for now thanks to my buddy at JCCC who sent me the incredibly complex wiring diagram. With that sorted I just need to find and hook them up, then figure out how to get the flat 4 wire end out of the body and down to the hitch.
With that done all I need to do is mow the grass (we've had a ton of rain this week along with the 90++ temps) pack up some tools and parts, gas up and go.
I've been looking forward to this trip ever since it was announced!

My wife and I are really disappointed to not make it. Our Route 66 trip fell through and the car is still a no go on a 5k trip. I was looking forward to meeting a number of you. Anyone need a dinner ticket? I will be cancelling the room reservation, so I do not know if the hotel would make it available at the discounted rate if someone needs it.

Oh, that's a real disappointment. What happened to the car?

Awhile back in preparation for the trip I gave the SC injection system one more try. It still was not running all that well. Nick at Boot to bonnet had looked at a box that allows the removal of the Rover alarm system and I had all the parts to swap in a nearly complete Rover MEMS 2J injection setup. It ran well on the way home, but at some point developed a strange backfire at light/part throttle. So maybe using 25 year old injection components was not the best idea. I think in another post, Dave suggested putting a carb on it and I had all the parts to do that. But being pig-headed like I am I stuck with troubleshooting the injection. ran out of time
Replaced lots of stuff with new and still the problem persists. I am pretty much at a stalemate. Last thing to try is to swap in a set of old injectors as the one on the car are brand new. But that is a very long reach...

				On a lighter note:
I have the Mini Van loaded up for the trip.

I gave the inno a buff and wax and currently swapping brand new 008s for brand new 032s.

				Pretty!
Michael, we'll see you there. When are you leaving? Sat or Sunday? Are you going up thru Armadillo? Lots of small towns that way......you'll even go thru Alliance, Ne - right past CarHenge.
I guess it's either that or up thru Abilene?

				Dave,
I am leaving very early Saturday and going up through Amarillo, across the west end of the Oklahoma pan-handle into eastern Colorado and on up.
I am giving myself 2.5 days to get there - expected arrival sometime Monday afternoon.

Dan made it to KC, and I'm loaded and ready to go too.....we'll hit the road in the am for Sioux Falls where we'll overnight, then we should be in Spearfish by early afternoon Monday.

With the 1 hour gain in time zones and light traffic all day today, I made exceptional time and ended up in Lamar, Colorado for the night.  It looks like I will end up arriving a day early as it is just over 8 hours into Spearfish from Lamar.
I originally thought I would only make Amarillo or Dumas at best.

				Cruisin!  :steeringwheel:

Yep!  I was able to run on cruise-control set at 70 mph or the speed limit - which ever was lower.  Mostly nice roads, so smooth sailing so far.
Most of Texas (except for going through the small towns) was on 70 mph cruise as the peed limit was usually 75.  I prefer 70 as the cruise while towing.
Across Oklahoma and Colorado the speed limit has been 65, so that was the cruise setting.

Made it safe & sound.  Got checked in to the hotel - no problem with having arrived a day early.  I even got a first floor room not far from an outside door, which was good since I got sprinkled on in SD and rained on when trying to unload at the hotel.
I finally got to meet Peter (Whee) in person as well.

Saw some photos on facebook, looks like an amazing turn out.  Cannot wait to here about it.

Photos from the group of us that caravan'd there together.

Home and dry.....nothing fell off or broke. Might have a tire with the inner treads separating, but I have a good spare tire so no biggy.....the Audi is a fantastic tow vehicle but I still miss my Clubby.
Even tho the grass is really tall and needs to be mowed, I may wait a couple of days - it's going to drop down into the 80's in a few days - supposedly.

What's the deal with the tread?  I took a look for wear before I left early that last day, but didn't notice anything.

It was great seeing the RestoMini regulars in Spearfish. A good time was certainly had by all.

We really did Howard, glad we got to see you too - that was a heck of a haul for you!
The tread is worn on the inside, which should indicate too much toe out - but you know we checked it - twice! at some point I'll move the front tire to the back and see if the noise goes away - if it doesn't I'll have to dig deeper.
If it does I have a spare tire that I can swap onto that wheel and have it aligned, after I set the ride height again.
