Title: Shop Tips
Post by: Willie_B on April 18, 2021, 09:20:33 AM
Share any shop tips that can make working on our wee beasties easier. What do you have?

I used a white paint pen to paint end of the wheel studs to make them easier to see when mounting the wheels. Always had fun trying to see them behind the wheel.

That castle nut is from ClassicMinisJapan.

Always wear your safety glasses - especially when under the car!

That's a good idea on the ends of the studs!

I use a yellow paint pen to mark TDC and the advance points on the crank pulley so it's easier to spot when setting the timing. This one isn't marked yet, but I did indicate a line to make sure the pointer was in the right spot at TDC.

I dont have a picture handy  - but for Tight Carb spaces ( Twins Particuarly)

Use a thin piece of mechanics wire to reach the carb springs..
Fasten the bottoms of the springs to the mounting plate or Heat shield

Use a length of wire to reach thru the linkages = grab the top hook of the spring and pull up into place.  Simple little twist and push and hook on the carb linkages.

When I was taking the center dash binnacle off & on several times I decided I didn't like the job of lining up the screws each time. So installed Allen screws with loctite. That holds the binnacle in position while a nut is put on. I used a flare nut so no washer needed but any nut works.
