Title: An online auction competitor for Bring A Trailer, called Cars & Bids
Post by: BruceK on August 07, 2020, 01:55:18 PM
I just discovered this new online auction site that is designed to compete (at least partially) with the established Bring A Trailer site.

https://carsandbids.com/

The catch?  It focuses on cars made in the past 40 years (1980+), so there may not be many (any?) classic Minis appearing there.   They undercut BaT's fees too.    And they have a comment section as well.

What do you think?  An additional opportunity to waste more time looking at cars for sale?

Well, I was wrong.  Cars & Bids has already auctioned a Mini.

Looking at the details on that de-seamed Mini auction, I am again AMAZED at the prices "non-car people" pay repair shops for work on and parts for their Minis.  Oil filter for $19!?  Can of Brake Clean for $15!?   Yeah I realize that's in Canadian dollars but that is still insane.

Wonder what they did for 54.5 hours of labor?????

I don't charge that many hours to overhaul an engine! Maybe I should......

I had 40 or maybe it was 50 hours of welding panels and various patches on Marks Aussie.  At a significantly lower rate.

And then to add insult to injury, there's the bogus "shop supplies" charge for EVERY HOUR OF LABOR!

And that!  I don't charge for cutoff wheels, weld wire, gas, buffing compounds, ect...

I haven't been on BaT like since quarantine started.  If I ever end up back at the office I'll check it out when I get bored or POed to kill time.
40-50 hours, wow, and it looks fabulous!!

I'll have to look at the sheet I scribbled times down on.  Few hours here few hours there adds up.
