The bride and I are making plans to go see the F1 race in November (1-3) at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tx. We've wanted to go to an F1 race for years and figure this is (maybe our last) our best chance....
Anyone wanna go with?
We're in early stages at this point so open to ideas suggestions etc. Bruce and I went to an Aussie Supercar race there so we sort of know the lay of the land.....
Tentatively interested for sure.
We need to get tickets sooner rather than later, and I have no idea about hotel rooms, whether to go all three days or just Sat/Sun or even Sun only.......just getting started, but Rose and I are definitely planning to go.
Hotel rooms can vary widely as to costs, etc. It depends on what you want. The last I recall of the area around the track, there were not many hotels very nearby.
Also, the costs may be elevated due to the races - depending on where the hotel is in relation to the track.
As to what days, ... no clue what to suggest.
I'm interested.
Cool, sounds like we could have a fun group going to the races! 77.gif
I'm on the email list for "pre-sale" info on tix for the F1 race in Austin, I'll post up when I get anything, but what sort of tix are we after, general admission, Turn1 grandstand? somewhere else? Maybe rent a golf cart and roam about from turn to turn?
Have you priced them before? If not be ready for sticker shock. Another thing is if you think concessions are expensive at stadiums or Nascar type tracks be prepared for 2x at least.
What is now an ex-coworker of mine went a few years back and went with the GA so he could get different perspectives. But I think in the end he spent most of the day on the hill above turn 1.
Still on the watch list though, cause it's just money right?
Right....it's why we work, right?
I'm expecting to pay about $600-750 for tix.....turn 1 is where Bruce and I spent all of our time last race we saw there.
Got this email today in response to putting myself on the list for Tix a while back.
Good Afternoon,
My name is Zach Flynt, I will be your point of contact here at COTA for tickets and hospitality options!
I'm glad to hear you have interest in coming out to Formula One on November 1-3! I'm here to help with seat options, answer questions, and help eliminate some fees for you once you're ready to make your purchase.
I wanted to inform you that we will start our presale for 2019 Formula 1 tickets within the next few weeks. This presale will not be announced to the overall public and it will be for all season holders first, then anyone interested in buying over the phone.
**If you have plans to join us for an incredible weekend, please respond with what type of tickets you are interested in and/or that you want the new pricing as soon as I receive it. If you'd like me to create your account or update an address, please provide a phone number and mailing address as well.**
I have attached last year's pricing for you to take a look at. This will give you an idea of what ticket prices will look like. We will also have concerts on Friday and Saturday this year- those names will be announced soon as well!
If you can't make it this year, please let me know and I will make sure to move you over to 2020 and hopefully we will see you then!
Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Zach Flynt

And this.....
Holy sticker-shock Batman!!!
I guess I am a little naive on what things cost. I just checked and found I wasn't far off when I said I could buy roundtrip airfare Austin-London ($464) for about the same as one of the cheap seats at Turn 1 ($445).
I can see going to the F1 race as a bucket-list kinda of thing. But I'll have to be tentative at this point whether I will attend.
We're looking at it as a once in a lifetime thing.....the wife's birthday is close to that date, as is our wedding anniversary, and a major age - life milestone for me. So, we're going to splurge this one time - after all, why not spend a little on ourselves for once?
We're not going to pay the $8K for an RV spot tho! :-\
I'm not sure I prefer to be in the stands anyway, as I recall from our Aussie Supercars race, we could see as much being able to wander around the hill at turn one as you could from the stands - so a G/A tix will do that.
At any rate.....we're going, one way or another!
Too rich for my blood. I'll have to pass as well.

I went to Montreal in 2011 and got so see Schumacher race and hear the V8's. I was not going to go, my wife talked me into it.
The race tickets for not so great seats, we more expensive than the airfare from Florida to Montreal.
I cannot recall not what we paid, but in the end it was worth it for the experience.

Yes, I was sitting in the stands where Vettel blew it an Jensen passed him. So, while I was in the cheap seats, I actually saw a pivotal point in the race.
He was still leading here.

When Will Buxton took over from Peter Windsor I did not like him, he sort of grew on me, then he won me over. He was on Twitter leading up to the race and organizing a meet and greet at a local Irish Pub, it happened to be 2 blocks away from my hotel room. He had Karun Chandhok (who was the reserve driver for Force India at the time) come out, a Mercedes lead mechanic came out, and 2 other people from other teams, one being from Red Bull. They each took turns taking questions from fans, Will said some stuff and took some questions and it was by far the coolest thing I had been to during any race weekend.
I was a huge fan of Will's after that.

Wow what an epic race to have watched! Great pictures too!
