He'll definitely get invited back to Cars & Coffee w/ Grandpa. https://www.facebook.com/michael.kotowski/videos/10155329804081539/ (https://www.facebook.com/michael.kotowski/videos/10155329804081539/)

That's cool.  Man I wish our cars and coffee had that kind of a turnout.  All we get are the wheels and exhaust crowd.

We're fortunate to get some outstanding cars almost every Sunday. Light on the hot rods and heavy on interesting European collectables and race cars. Always a bunch of exotic supercars and odd and vintage things most people have never seen.

I am calling shenanigans!!  That kid is obviously biased and I challenge him to a arm wrestling match!!   ;D

Nice show, we have one in Palm Beach about 40 miles south that is HUGE.

Rob Van Winkle brought out a car last weekend

We have some night time local meets I have been to them, they are ok.  The Palm Beach one is insane. I am looking forward to attending one soon. If I can find the time and motivation to finish this Mini I will take that, otherwise I will most likely be there in the E21 at the end of this month.

Ha! I'm not sayin' he wasn't pandering to Grandpa, but i swear his comment was unprompted.

So, here's a funny Santa Barbara C&C story. We have a guy who attends most Sundays. He's an actual billionaire (yeah, with a "B"). He's not just a rich guy with a bunch of Ferraris; he really knows and appreciates cars. A couple of Sundays ago he was talking to me about Minis—says he wants one and was asking about "Rosebud." He asked me what I had into her, dollar wise. When I told him that I'm kinda embarrassed about what I spent and I don't usually tell anyone, he said he understands and said "we car guys often go a little overboard." I finally told him and he said "Holy sh*t!" Unfortunately, my wife overheard and now tells everyone "Even a billionaire thinks I spent too much." Sheesh.

Your wife's comments are hilarious... and a good reminder.

I saw a t-shirt the other day that said, "My biggest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my car for what I told her I paid for it."

This car disease is a horrific one, makes a crack addiction look like a craving for something salty.

There is no AA for, us no methadone clinic for shots... we just have this disease and  we are on our own.

My RX7 was a story like rosebud, I stopped counting at 60K invested in a car that blue booked at 5K, I did sell it for 17K.  ;D

All because I caught the Autocross the track day bug.

My wife is my AA for my car disease.  She keeps me sane and "on budget" at least as much as possible.  Luckily she's a bit of a car nut too, won't admit it though.

We all have stories like that, I stopped counting the invoices I spent on my old Jag - the only good news is that the rising prices for E-Types have made it to the much unloved Series II cars too, so I might break even on it.

I've been OK on my Mini purchases so far by not getting too crazy on my restorations and repairs. I buy 'em to drive 'em.

But, I have a project waiting in the wings that once I clear out my garage promises to stretch the budget some, and like most Vtecs I doubt I'll ever get close to recouping my money once it's done, but then that's not the point of the build....rather to wind up with a fun drivable classic Mini that will need a minimum of work and money investment once it's done and produce a maximum amount of drive/fun time.

That's the dream at least......   ::) ;D

A VTEC, eh? Gilred Racing is about is located just on the other side of the mountain from me—about 30 miles away [http://www.gildredracing.com (http://www.gildredracing.com)]. They're a high-end Mini/VTEC shop. I sold them some wheels & tires the other day. Haven't seen their shop yet—they promised me a tour. Looks like they do some nice work. I'm a little reluctant to visit. Don't want to be tempted. Their latest project is a 500+ HP Mini. Can't remember what motor they're gonna use. What a monster that'll be!

I stopped counting at 60K too. Unfortunately my wife didn't. For my birthday last year she presented me with a build binder, including every invoice & receipt... all tallied up. Ouch!

My project will be much more modest in performance, I'm only looking at 125-150 HP, but my project will be complicated - and I'm not using a VTEC.  9.gif

Mine will be an ECO-Mini

Electric? When can we expect to see your progress? Have you broken ground yet?  (<--pun)

No, not electric......Eco.................as in Boost!

I'm using a 3 cyl 1L Ford Ecoboost motor, 125hp 145 torques, 6 speed auto trans, mounted in the back. 215 lbs all in, compared to about 325 for the Mini's original motor.

I have the Mini, it's a late model SPi body that Dan has fixed all the rusted panels on, next I have to sell my old Jag for capital, then buy the wrecked Fiesta to pull the guts from.

I think I'll put a Mini 1000 emblem on the back, and the automatic script - everybody hates the 998 auto trans cars - I'll have fun showing them how well one can run!   ;D

Nice, 6 speed auto no less! "Mini 1000 Automatic." That'll be your inside joke. Keep us posted, eh?
