Title: Scratches, bumps, and dents
Post by: Minicop on May 30, 2009, 07:13:03 AM
Hi resto-mini folks! ;D

So, would anybody like to share some of the steps and procedures for repairing scratches, bumps, and dents? I have some scratches and was wondering if I would be able to get rid of them. Keep in mind I have no tools or experience with paintjobs. I hope this becomes an informative thread for everyone. :)

Depending on the depth of the scratch you may only need to use a compound to buff out, or go a step further and sand it with 1000-2000 grit wet/dry paper to remove the scratch, and then buff with a compound.  If your paint has clear the goal is to not sand through the clear and if the scratch is already through the clear, its a no win.  Bumps and dents, I push or pull as flush as I can get them.  Sometimes they pop back perfect, sometimes they don't.
