Venue Change - We're staying in Harrison, Arkansas
Hotel TBD in a few days
We're at it again!
The last run was a rousing good time in Eureka Springs, this time we're planning to go terrorize the Branson, Mo area in the first week of November - 6,7,8. All Classic Minis are invited, but be aware these are not terribly "organized" events, we just show up and go blasting around the best roads we can find.
We usually have about 10 cars show up which is a good number, enough for variety but not so many as to make things unwieldy.
Put that week on your calendar and come joins us, details as they happen!

November. Got it. I have a running mini this time.
Excellent, Dooder is coming too......
"Official" dates......Nov 6,7, 8
Be there or be square! ;D
Keep reminding us so I don't forget!
Wow, motels are really cheap in Branson this time of year, I'll post up the host hotel once we pick one.
Well I've bid to get at least a couple of those days off. We shall see if I get them. I should have my steering rack in and ready to go as well.
Excellent! Dooder says he's going so you guys can caravan over together if you want......
I'll have a host hotel picked in the next week so we can get rooms reserved.
Google says it's about a 3 1/2 hour drive for you, about the same as us from KC.
My Texas buddy can't go this time tho.....
Got my schedule and days off.
Great!
Looks right now like 6 cars for sure......more if they can get scheduling worked out like you did. 6-10 is the usual number, enough for variety and fun, but not so many that it becomes unwieldy.
Which car from your fleet are you driving?
Don and his P'up won't get there till Friday early afternoon - he has work early Fri morning that he can't miss.
The only mini on the road right now is the blue 74. I have twin carbs to build this week for it and headers/exhaust and a steering rack to replace too. Otherwise I'd have to bring the 400rwhp rx7, which I've taken there before and would be fun for me but you guys would never see me lol. I fly in on the 5th but likely would make the drive up the 6th and stay a day or 2.
That will work too, Don will be coming on the 6th from KC. We'll make Sat the big drive day......
We don't speed - a lot of us can't really! ;D
We have fun driving as fast as they will comfortably go, and we don't have to slow down for turns. ;D
How did you get the red Clubby down, drive or trailer?
Weather permitting and assuming it's open there's a huge go kart track in town and we'll race there, maybe Fri afternoon.
It's still at his place. He owes me a clutch job before I get it. Plus I'm shipping him a new master to toss in while he's working on it. I'm in no rush to get it honestly since I have plenty of other things going on. He may have a guy trailer it down though however since I have a lead on a mini he may be interested in locally.
To be honest the rear subby attach panels are so non existent I'm scared to drive it lol. I need to address that, the lack of floors, and the door frames before I start driving it. I'll want to go over basic mechanicals too. I believe he has all new parts in the dizzy but he has a brand new electric module to convert it, I'd probably buy an extra coil, new radiator, look at the brakes, and toss on the rebuilt carb I'm taking off the 74.

Is all this on the Clubby?
I told you it was ruff!
Oh I was well aware. Luckily I'm handy.
"Handy" ;D
Understatement of the week.......
Venue Change!
After learning that almost all the roads we'd be running were actually in Arkansas, we decided to move our base to Harrison, Arkansas.
Hotel will be announced in a few days.
Host Hotel -
Days Inn, Harrison Arkansas
Phone: 1-870-391-3297
Rate $46.75/night plus taxes, 1 king bed, non-smoking
If you mention you're with the Mini group they'll give you this rate, otherwise it's $55/night
I'd love to make the trip but multiple things get in the way. Nov 5 is my youngest sons birthday (he turns 5) , I'm in Michigan and that is a long drive in the mini, I'm a pastor so Sunday's don't work so well for me, and I'm hunting on Saturday. I hope you guys have lots of fun.
Would anybody be interested in doing something like this in Michigan or Ohio area?
Also in 2017 they MINI dealer in Grand Rapids will be sponsoring another world record attempt at most minis gathered together in a parade. It is an event called Mini on the Mack and takes place in July on the Mackinac Bridge. Awesome event. Last year there were 10 classic minis in the group. Would be great to have more join us. Classics get to lead the parade.
We may do another one over spring break, maybe you can make it then? The roads are worth the drive!
Well after seeing nothing but gloom doom and rain forecast for this coming weekend for the last month, today I check the weather and they've done an about face! Now they're saying sunny and dry for the whole weekend - Yay! Temps look perfect too - low 60's and sunshiney.
We'll see if this forecast holds up till Thursday, the day before we go, but so far I'm encouraged!
I've got my Miata seat bolted in, I reset the ride height and the alignment yesterday and Buzz seems to be running well. I am going to add a hose for some carb heat, he's a bit cold natured these days and I sure won't need my Aux cooler, so it's shut off.
Willie B, it's only 10 hours from Liburn, and your car is running great again ????!?!?? ;D
How many are going? Should I invite Robert Carlos of Yuma to bring his primered grey mini?
Invite anyone and everyone you would like - right now we're at 5 cars. Dooder won't be joining us......

Sounds good if I could. Too soon.
Yeah I talked to Dean. Everyone else in the area I know doesn't have a running car to drive.

OK, I hadn't read the other thread yet..... ::)
Ruder's coming but he broke his ankle or something, so he'll be riding along with someone instead of driving his car.
We're down to 4 actual cars now - but the weather's looking great!
Well that's a bummer.
**toys around with making a last minute decision to tow the mini up***
**Checks google maps, 1200 miles and 17 hours of driving 1 way....**
Sorry guys, if you even end up in the SE I will do my best to get there.
Have fun!!!
Really? Only 17 hours?
When I drove from KC to Daytona seems like it was 26 hours drive time - but now that I think about it, I was coming from Colorado Springs thru KC to pick up my son.......
I'm planning to do MMW next summer in Sandy Eggo, that will be 24 hours drive time - minimum!
Alrightythen.......weather is shaping up to be perfect all three days!
We're heading down from KC to arrive in Harrison mid-afternoon - Dan is there anything I can bring from KC for you?
My clubby? Lol.
Is he putting a clutch in it for you?
Debating on whether to bring my tow bar or leave it home, in the back of the Audi ready for Rose to come rescue me if I break.
Yeah he has parts for it but hasn't got to it yet.

Do not get me wrong, I love road trips, I need one bad, I just do not have the time right now to do one.
I towed my RX7 up to Indy 18 hours one way just to do an Autocross there and tow it back. My wife flew up there to meet me there.
I have done too many road trip so the Dragon than I can count, started going in 2004 and have been there at least 2X a year for 10 years not towing my car and some of them were brutal to drive, like my RX7 that makes a Mini feel softly sprung, and needed gas every 200 miles.
Have fun guys, may the weather gods smile favorably on your gathering and have a pint for me.
Believe me Jim, I understand......it's a long drive!
We'd love to have you along, especially since there will be another Red/White top P'up there too.... ;D

Just rolled into town. I get zero cell service here but found some wifi. I'll give you a room number once I finish lunch and go check in.
I'm in 119 facing the pool.
Allrighty then!
We're all here at last, John, Don and I took the long way down, rather than just take the freeway and get here quickly....and it took even longer that expected due to traffic (getting stuck behind slow moving trucks and old farts who would NOT pull over and let us by) but the good news (touch wood) is that no one had any car issues.
All three ran perfectly the whole trip - I'm pleased to say.....
Tonight we're off to find a bite to eat, quaff a few cold adult beverages and make plans for tomorrow.
Tomorrow we'll hit the road bright and somewhat early after breakfast and go terrorize the locals! ;D
Since it was dark when we got here I couldn't get a pic of all 4 cars, so I'll do that tomorrow.....in the meantime, here's a couple from where we met up this AM at Krispy Kreme for sugar pill fuel and coffee, and our lunch stop for gas. The weather is perfect as predicted, we should have a blast tomorrow blasting around!
Looks like loads of fun. 4.gif
Highlight for me today was driving the D series pickup on the last stretch today. I think I'm sold on the conversion.
We had a good run today.......but it didn't start out that way for me, I flooded my engine trying to get it started in the cold morning....... looks like I need to do a little carb work again. We pulled the plugs and dried them off and it started right up and gave no problems the rest of the day.
In fact all of our cars ran well all weekend, I'm happy to say - but it wouldn't be a classic Mini run if something didn't go wrong on at least one of the cars!
We put on a lot of miles today, had a lot of fun going around 30 mph corners at 60 and a great time was had by all! We did get stuck behind the occasional pickup, but most of the roads have passing sections if you can be patient enough to wait for it, and when you can't......
This evening found Dan giving hood adjustment advice to Don, who said it cleared up one of his rattles!
Tomorrow we all head for home, it was a short weekend but well worth the time.....
We got to sample the local specialties.....
A few more pics from Sunday's run home......before we could go I had to put in a new set of firing pins, once I did Buzz started instantly and ran perfectly the rest of the day. I guess it was just time for some new plugs after all!
Yes that's a 998 leading the way!
Buzz tucked in safe in Dan's garage-mahal......
Considering two of the plugs busted in two, I'd say they were due for a change. I need to research if the uneven wear is indicative of anything as well. I probably should change my mismatched old plugs.
I did get a kick out of everyone's surprise at my speed in the twisties when I led the pack. Don couldn't believe it was a 998.

This keeps echoing in my mind. You know I am gonna get a new engine hopefully later than sooner but it is inevitable. For me to get a 110HP A-Series will take a lot of money, a bone stock D-Series conversion might be a tad more expensive but will have 110HP and run like a champ.
Looks like it was a lot of fun, if you ever end up in the Southeast I might be temped to get my ass up there.
You can buy a D series with 130hp if you get the right one - they all are exactly the same size.......
And you're right, an A series making 110 HP takes some bux.
I worked on Buzz a little bit tonight, our club has an event tomorrow and we're still in this warm period with no rain which is odd for Feb for us, so Ima take advantage and drive Buzz.
I had detailed the problems I had with the points eliminator kit, I sent it back to the seller and they sent me a new one and I installed it tonight. Bang! Car started perfectly and ran smoothly - so it wasn't me after all! A fellow can get paranoid when these electronical things that are supposed to be bullet proof and work right out of the box - don't.
Now all I need to do is get the timing set right, with the brake booster on there I can't get close to seeing the marks on the flywheel except with a mirror, then I have to hold it and the timing light just right to be able to see anything, then I need a third hand to rev the motor! Then I have to remember the numbers are mirror image too and try and figure out what number I'm actually seeing! It's a challenge, to say the least - but I'll get er done......
