Title: gas cap part #
Post by: Hayman9644 on August 09, 2009, 04:19:18 PM
I bought a gas cap from mini spares and it was a piece of chinese junk.  It broke within the first few fill ups.  What I was wondering does anyone have a part number where I could go to Oriellys (or any parts store) and get a better grade of one.  I dont need a locking one just one that fits and doesnt leak all down the side of the car like mine is doing now.

I don't recall the part number, but you can go to almost any of the standard parts places and either look up in the shelf catalog or have them look up on the computer for the cap for a 1973 MG Midget.  It is a direct cross reference for the Mini gas cap (non fuel injected).  For many such parts, if you can tell it was on both, then use the 1973 MG Midget as the car for them to look up - it will be in their systems as it was sold new in the US whereas Minis are/were not.
