I my mind Mini variants are wagons, vans, pu's and mokes. The spokesperson for the MMW2017 has a different take on the subject.

You are correct.  She is mistaken.

Related to a comment I made recently in another thread, it's really good to read Mini books and pay attention to various forms of historical Mini literature about the marque and actually learn something about these cars to be able to talk intelligently about them.

yes, they all aren't Mini Coopers although pretty much everyone in the US calls them that.

I use the Camaro as an example to help illustrate to folks the differences:

The Camaro was primarily in three levels - standard, RS and Z28 (Mini, Cooper and Cooper-S respectively).  All Z28's were Camaros, but not all Camaros were Z28's.

Some get it, some don't.
