Title: How do you get a GREAT shine on your wheels?
Post by: Minicop on May 19, 2009, 04:27:17 AM
Hello Resto-mini folks!

In reading 94's 1982 refurbish project, and him mentioning the wheels, I got to thinking about my wheels. They are not as clean as I would like them to be. I use the spray on foam wheel cleaner everytime I wash my Mini but it doesn't get that hard crusty stuff off. It's on the front wheels more than on the back ones. I don't know what it is, does anybody want to take a stab at it?

What kind of wheels are they?

If they are just aluminum with no paint or clear coat, 1500 or 2000 grit wet sand is the way to go. After you get a smooth surface you polish it with some simichrome or some other metal polish ( I prefer simichrome ) and the longer you rub the more shiny it will be. I've polished A LOT of aluminum and have gotten results that look better than chrome IMO with this technique.
