Press it out and install a new.  Same for the rear, press those out and get longer.

MiniDave

Yeah, rear's are def too short.

You can just bang them out in place, and then pull the new ones in with a nut and some washers but I prefer to use the press also.....

Thank you gents.

Since I will be replacing the rear studs, I'd like to get drums that have a built in spacer like these to match how the front wheels fill out the arches:

https://www.minispares.com/gdb106-brake-drum-rear-with-built-in-spacer-s-1275gt

I read the standard stud is 35mm, how would I calculate the needed stud length for the new drum? The additional spacing is 1 inch (25mm-ish), so would a 58mm stud be long enough? Too long?

Those mini fins you have back there not the spaced version?

They are flat-faced and don't seem to be raised like some Minifins pictures I've seen. But they do stick out more than the original steel drums. I'll need to measure the difference when I get home today.

I think you need the 55mm studs. Off the top of my head was thinking 2 inches but spares list 55mm for spaced drums which is  2.16 inches.

Edit. Although 58mm would probably work too assuming the lugs are deep enough.

So I was able to pull all the studs out of the rear hub and the damaged stud out of the front disc. They appear to both be 35 mm. I noticed the one from the disc (right stud in the picture) doesn't have the bevel, whereas the left one does. The back of the disc is flat, unlike the countersunk surface of the rear hub.

Finding a stud that's like the front one seems to be tricky. Would it be acceptable to replace it with one that's shaped like the one on the left?

Red Riley

I would think that using the chamfered stud against the flat disc wouldn't be the best idea. These ones are for a Triumph with disc brakes, no idea whether they would work on a Mini. But they have the right shape, so I'm thinking there must be similar ones for Mini discs. Probably worth making a phone call to one of the suppliers and finding a real human being to ask.

Is the flange that the stud fits into tapered like the stud in your picture? Is there a clearance issue of some sort?

The last set of studs I bought from Mini Spares had the tapered heads like the ones on the left in your pic. That said, how many do you need of the 2" ones? I have a set of 8 I'd be happy to sell you....

BPNW has the 35mm studs like the ones on the left in stock.  https://bpnorthwest.com/austin-healey/wheel-stud-front-sprite-midget/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=17189488067&gbraid=0AAAAADs8ul6ktc49a6dmR0GsfRgvvuYFm&gclid=CjwKCAjwu53SBhAhEiwAJzSLNi5MG-fSMLxxrryikCk9yPGXW-lD3OFX5Ne7KLPJV0mO7WWL3wK1nxoCI7cQAvD_BwE

One other thing I found is that the Polaris RZR uses 3/8-24 wheel studs, so if you have one of those stores handy you might be able to get them locally - I've had no luck finding them at the local auto parts stores. Tons of them for sale on Amazon under that heading.

I might have some old disc hubs laying around with the flat face studs I could send your way.  It will be Monday before I can verify. Or I can turn down a taper style on my lathe to create a flat surface.

For the rear hubs, I'll be happy to buy the 2-inch studs from you!  :13:

Looks like there is a taper behind the flange, although not as deep as the ones in the rear. Perhaps the tapered studs will fit? The disc looks the same as the one-piece ones sold on Minisport and while the photos show flat-headed studs fitted, they advertise tapered studs as longer alternatives.

I also saw the listings on Amazon for the Polaris RZR studs, though quality seems to be questionable according to the reviews (no surprise). There are quite a few ATV parts stores in my area. I might give them a call if the need arises.

Thank you! If you do locate them, I'd be happy to pay for the flat headed studs and shipping just so I can have a few spares on hand.

Just curious, if the tapered ones are turned flat, will it make the serrated portion sit too deep inside the hole?

Well looking at that pic of the hub with taper. I could create a flat edge up just a bit so the tapers line up. Might need some measurements. Hard to say if the angles even match. Then the spline depth wouldn't be affected.
