Title: Tires
Post by: tmsmini on January 29, 2020, 11:08:14 AM
I saw on the MKI forum that some new tires in the 145/10 have come out.

https://www.blockleytyre.com/ (https://www.blockleytyre.com/)

and Yoko has something coming out in 145/10 in a few months.

I had heard from someone that they had issues getting tires in from the UK due to no DOT certification. Options are great, but if there are issues on import that doesn't help us in the US.

I saw that same conversation..  its interesting when you step back and think about the DOT Issue.

Seven no longer sells NOn DOT tires  == 165 Falkens.
Mini Mania Sells the Falkens - with a disclaimer = EU Rated not DOT rated

I have brought directly to me 3 sets last year of the 165 Falkens no issues. - Shipped from Minispares = no questions better price than USA Supplers.

I think the 'new' tires are a good choice for 145 Options, but without DOT rating i doubt the offerings will grow for stateside vendors. MUCHLESS the price will be as attractive.

It is nice to see some more street tire options reappearing.  Selection was getting rather limited there for a while.

I waited a day or two to order the tires/wheels through MiniSport USA and with the pound rising, it cost about $70 more this morning.

I am waiting to order some things from Specialist Components, if they would only answer a question or two. That will cost me as well.

Well, todays the day.....either it will keep going up or drop like a rock according to my brother who lives in England. I don't know whether it's better to wait and see what happens or just go for it? 1.32 today

Over my years of buying mini parts i would classify 3 periods.
Pre 2010 -  the BPS £ was about TWO$  USD   to One £ pound sterling.
NEVER ordered overseas + costs of shipping were outrageous.

Then I remember 2010 - till about  2015 ( pre brexit talk)  About £1.60 to $1 USD (not horrible, but a good order on comparable items would make it work)

NOW = All Brexit all the time = 2016 Onward ..  Average rate is ~1.31 - to 1 USD.   Recently bouncing around there=== Sorry US= UK is getting near all my orders.

With DHL almost 2 day delivery, Fine in every way.

Reading more on Mk1 Forum  = Blockley also offers a 165 Tire,

https://www.blockleytyre.com/search (https://www.blockleytyre.com/search)

Period loooking tread .  UK people are using them regularly and get fine reviews for roadholding and use.

Someone needs to import a set to USA..  ( i dont need any tyres now.)

Anyone want to trade a LOW Used set of yokohama 008's.... i would trade !!! for a period tire on my pickup!

Looks like Blockley Tyre is sort of the UK's version of our Coker Tire - selling lots of old-style tires in oddball sizes for classic and vintage vehicles.

Their 165 10" tire is a good-looking item.

They look a lot like the Goodyear G800's from years ago, they were a good tire but a little noisy and the blocks in the tread seemed to produce cupping even when the alignment was correct.
