Title: Restoring the silver on an enamel badge?
Post by: SpookyReverb on July 15, 2019, 07:41:37 AM
Howdy,

I've got a Riley Elf, and the silver on the rear badge is either gone or tarnished... - I tried some tarnish remover and it didn't do anything at all (maybe it wasn't strong enough?). Is this able to be restored? I saw online there are a few people that restore badges but the cost is too much for this project.

The enamel is in pretty good shape, so I'm not worried about that.

Just curious if anyone here may have an idea! Otherwise it'll be Ebay for a better one, if one comes up.

Thank you!
Austin

Thanks for joining, Austin, and welcome to the forum! Nice Riley Elf....

I take it this is one of those unobtanium parts? No one stocks it?

Is it a factory part ? Located on the boot lid ?

If not it will be hard to find one.

Try using Nevr-Dull but make sure you mask the badge off from the paint. It also works well on dodgy chrome too.

Somerford Mini Specialists in the U.K. show new ones on their website.

Link?

When I looked them up there, the only thing they had was the "Riley" script, when you click on the pic of the badge, that's what shows. If you click on the badge for the bonnet, it says NLA.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the replies!

I checked with Somerford and they don't have them anymore. Generally the ones that come up on Ebay are stamped/painted aluminum, not as nice as the enamel versions, but if I want a brighter representation I may have to go with one of those. (they switched from the enamel to the aluminum version partway through the 8-year run of Elfs).

The badge is super easy to remove, so I'll try out the nevr-dull stuff. It's worth a shot and I have few other pieces that I could use it on as well!

Thanks,
Austin
