Is the block already from an automatic Mini?
There are some slight differences in the blocks over the the ones for manual transmission engines.

A million years ago when I was just a "yoot" ;D we had a customer come in with torn up inner CV's that had literally eaten thru the transmission case, so one of my first jobs as a mechanic was to replace the transmission case on an MG 1100. Pulled the engine, split the trans off the engine, took everything out of the case and moved it to the new one and put it all back together and into the car. I can't believe it, but it worked when I was done!
