Post by: bahoffe on September 06, 2009, 03:15:25 PM
What type of grease is used to pack wheel bearings ?  Can I use the same for ball joints?

Can't recall the name of it off the top of my head, but it did say on the tube it could be used for wheel bearings.

I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic for,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as many years as I can remember. I use it for everything, wheel bearings, ball joints. tie rod ends etc. Only thing I don't use it for is CV joints.

It could be that I'm just "dancing with the one that brung me" or that I can get it for free, but I've had no failures in many, many years using it.

The red color is a pain as it will stain like crazy, but you know when you've got new grease in something.     dan

I am going to buy a grease gun today after work today. Are the grease points a standard size or will I need to get a special sized gun to fit a mini?

I think they are standard/universal.  At least the one I bought was.  Still messy I thought.
