I am starting to consider getting another Mini to go with the Moke.
Something to drive and enjoy now while I continue with the Moke's restoration is preferred.
Let me know what you might have or know of.
Budget is flexible depending on the particular car.
How about a Cooper S that has been converted into a messy Innocenti clone?
;D
Seriously though, I love looking at Minis for sale, so I'll do that and post some here in this thread for you to look at.
Thanks Bruce.
I did get a laugh out of the suggestion of the current "bitsa" on BAT, but it is not a runner.
Oh.....you want one that runs and drives? ;D
Preferably.
The shop is not scheduled to start the roll bar, top and paint of the Moke until sometime in January. Initial estimate was 3 to 4 weeks for all the work. So it is looking like sometime in February for me to begin reassembly.
Michael, here are some Minis I found.

Some JDM Minis for sale in California that were legally imported to the US. Since they can't be registered in CA, they really don't have any local buyers.

These JDM Minis have been for sale for at least 6 months on this site. This one is a 1300 and other than the plain wheels, I kinda like it. http://fedlegalimports.com/jdm-import/1991-rover-mini/
And they also offer this one.

Hey that's the one I mentioned in another thread. Very unusual since it is LHD and has air-conditioning. Pretty interesting Mini.
Interesting to see there are still a lot of "rebodied" Minis for sale......
Yeah, all those re-bodied Minis cycle through new owners.
Here's some more, including this Mk. I Mini right in San Antonio

I'll pass on the automatics.
I note that those "dealers" bringing in the JDM ones are all using photos from the Japanese lots - no current photos in the US. Raises a warning flag to me.
The one in Atlanta has promise.
I am not in a hurry, so keep posting possibilities as you find them.
Bruce posted his second list as I was typing this, so will look through those as well.

After reading dozens of Mini advertisements today with all sorts of claims and "information", I found that most of them fall into one of two categories: Stupid or Liar. Meaning either the seller must be the dumbest, most clueless person to be claiming what they claim about the car they are selling. Or, more likely, the seller is just plain lying and bending the truth, sometimes in outrageous ways.
Seems like a small percentage is telling the truth. Why is that?
Of all those posted so far, I think the green one in Fayetteville holds the most promise of a nice ready to drive car for a reasonable price.....the Blue one from Jet motors would be another good choice.

Yeah, that Ft Worth blue Mini looks pretty nice too......looks like it will take around $15k to get a nice, unmolested 998 RHD car.
Lots to sort through and consider.
I had also seen the one at the Ft. Worth dealer as a consideration.

Looks like an honest presentation with good photos, including under the car. And the dealer's writeup on the car is refreshingly free of BS. Mileage of 45K is nice and low and they say they have maintenance records.
If the dealer plate wasn't obscruing the number plate, you could run a MOT history check on it. Since they claim it has a recent MOT, you could call them to get the reg number of the car and then plug it into: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status The database should go back to 2005 (if the car was on the road during all that time) and let you know year by year how it did.

That wrapped one was for sale on Mania for a very long time.....what the heck carb is that on the last one? Looks kinda like a Weber, but......it's sure not factory original.

Is it is a naked SPI ?
No, not SPi, also no computer or harness in the right front corner of the car. Looks like a Weber side draft.....interesting that it has Sport Pack arches but 12" wheels and it's not a Sports Pack car near as I can tell.
Could be a Dellorto carb. They were/are similar to a Weber carb.
I had narrowed done to a "short list" of a couple of those Bruce found and one offered offline.
The blue 998 in Portland area (with a/c), the lighter blue 998 in DFW and the option to buy back Flur - the Tahiti Blue SPI I converted to carb that Dan had restored.
I tried contacting the place in Portland selling the one with a/c and it seems it is sold already. They haven't bothered to update the craigslist post nor their own facebook page.
The lighter blue one at the dealer in DFW appears to have cover-sills from the pictures. I may see about further information on it as well as an update on Flur. I may also just wait a bit more and see what turns up.
I had also been considering the red "850" woody Bruce found over in Louisiana. Its listing has very few pictures and went up on ebay just recently. It lists as a 1965 850, but the one interior picture shows a remote/rod-change located shifter and later model turn/wiper stalks on the steering column. There is no picture of the engine bay nor undercarriage to make a determination from.
Its HARD to buy a car sight unseen......I've done it once that turned out OK, but I don't know that I could do it again.
Of the options you mentioned, I would think buying Flur back would be the best, as you know what you have.
How did it get that name?
I think the guy Dan bought it from named it that. Don't know any more to the backstory.
Since both the two remaining from the initial search are in DFW, I can also make a trip up and look them both over back-to-back.
The original owner in Florida had named it that and had a thread on here with his attempt at fixing it.
How much is Flur going for these days?
I haven't asked that question yet.
This looks like a pretty clean Inno.

Never mind. This is the one that was on BaT recently.
I thought it looked familiar......
I've noticed that many "sellers" tend to be lazy about tracking where all they have posted ads and cleaning them up (marking as sold) when the car actually sells.
The guy I bought mine from was far from internet savvy. He did go and try to remove them, but one was ebay so he tried to raise the minimum to 50K, problem was he left off the K. Luckily a person noticed and mentioned his mistake. Good thing too cause the car was mine by then. LOL.
Would be curious to know what Flur is going for these days as well....... 77.gif
I miss that little car.

That is one I thonk Bruce posted from the seller's craigslist ad. All the black&white photoshopping makes me leery of what is the seller hiding.
Yea, but it's just down the road from you, so you can go check it out in person.....
Not sure exactly where in Texas it is as the guy has it listed under Austin, San Antonio, Houston and DFW craigslist groupings.
The telephone area code is also for northeast Texas outside the DFW area.
Maybe a quick phone call would find out if it's real or not?

i like the one piece rear door. Looks good from the few pics.
I've gotten a few more pictures and it does seem in pretty good shape and priced well. I want to try to get a mechanical evaluation before going further.
I love the mint condition with lack of photos. Is a pretty unique looking one though and from the few shots seems in good shape. A close inspection of the usual rust areas and the mechanicals and if all checks out I'd say that's a good price.

Passing on the blue Clubman Estate in Florida for now.
I have a few other things going on that may delay the search a bit. Maybe that will give the time needed for the Moke project to pick up momentum again.
Is the body at the paint shop now? Did you decide to stay with white? Appliance white or more of a cream white?
There is someone in our club selling a Traveller or Countryman. I do not think he is in a hurry to sell.
It is in the SF Bay Area which is a ways from. It does have a flip front which can be something people like or dislike.
I can get details when you and if you are interested as I do not believe it is listed any where yet. It does need some attention I am sure, but he desrcibed the issues.
Dave,
The Moke body is at the paint shop. It actually got dropped off just before Thanksgiving, but they are just now getting it into the schedule for working on it. My contact there was hoping they would start it this week.
Edit:
I forgot to answer Dave's other questions. I am staying with white for the body. Going with more to the "appliance white". The bonnet is not being redone as I am trying to keep the decals on it intact (UK flag and "Moke Patrol" script). The outside of the bonnet had been repainted a bright white and they are going to try to match to that as best they can. (The underside of the bonnet is still the original more cream colored "Old English White" and also has a couple of markings I wanted to keep.)
Michael, here's one that is near you, in the Austin area
The photos were obviously taken in the UK, but what is that little Mini up against the house?! Looks like it is made from stone.

I'll check out the others shortly. Playing catch-up to emails and posting from being on the road the last two days.
The stone Mini looks like a solid choice. ;D
I'll see myself out.
Michael, don't know if you are still considering getting another Mini, but I saw this one here in Texas.

I decided to drag my feet on getting another Mini to go with the Moke. I want to prioritize getting the Moke back on the road and then decide what is next in life before committing to another Mini or other major endeavor.
I've been putting off dealing with some major decisions from all that went on last year.
Kind of reviving the thought of a second Mini.
