It is! Thats the best part, lol. The doors are rusted up at the bottom, but has spare doors to go with it. Has some dents and scratches and a dirty engine bay. I'll have to clean up the interior, the rusty rear subby, pull and paint engine and bay, and give the car a respray. Then I sell it and do another. Has a 998 and disc brakes too. Will make a good car for someone.
Just got home with the car. I'm beat. Looks really good as is, just a few spots that need attention. Pics soon.
No pics yet as it was pouring rain here today. Although I did clean up the points and rotor arm on the distributor and adjusted the carb. Its running pretty good now.
Fiddled with the mixture some more and now its running great. Really stinking strong for a 998.

The culprit behind the rust is the foam sound insulation on the firewall. It traps moisture and allows it to stay that way till eventually it rust all the way through. This section will have to be cut out and patched.
So I took it out, the cat helped.

So thats pretty much it for today. The windscreen rubber was in good enough condition I was able to put the glass back in easily. I'll have to cut about an 8 inch by 2 inch section along the windscreen to remove the rot there. It has the horrid bullet mirrors which I need to replace as well.

Wow, that Mini on the inside looks just like mine used to. I still have the yellow engine block, and all that foam too, hmmm.....

Details....lets see. I bought the car before I moved to NC to have a project to hopefully flip fairly quickly to make some cash during this fabulous time of unemployement. Picked it up in SC and flat towed back last Sunday. The guy I bought it from use to import minis, had a few other rusty ones in his garage and then this one which had set for the past 3 years or so. Someone did a pretty good refurb on it before, but since then its aquired some dents and dings and the few small spots of rust that I've shown. The seams on it are perfect, so kudos to the last guy that did the panel work. Aside from that it has a screaming 998 in it, so not sure if its just that strong or has some internal mods I'm unaware of. But after tweaking the fuel it runs great. Stock suspension and exhaust, nothing too fancy looking there. Oh and I just noticed today the headliner is mint. Never bothered to look up there before for some reason.
Today I finished straigtening out the roof dents, wing dent, rear panel dents, removed the doors, cleaned up and straighted out one of the doors, the windscreen panel is finished, and the rust I found along the door frames under the rubber seal has been wired brushed away and primered. Roughed up most the car in prep for paint. Had a splitting headache all day and it rained.
Started the day by crossing my fingers the door bolts weren't going to give me any troubles, and luckily they didn't.

Did the final touches to the windscreen panel and seems to be a pretty good match. Put the window seal on to double check and looks fine. My concern was the ridge/lip the runs along the seam would look out of whack.

The doors will need prepping on both sides and will probably consume most of my day. I think I'll shoot for the weekend to have both blue and red minis painted.

Another horribly long day of prepping and cleaning and taping, and cleaning and taping and taping and taping. Got a coat of paint on, but have 2 or 3 small spots I'm not happy with, so I'll have to work on those with some wetdry paper and give it another shot of paint. Had one area that didn't feather well with the primer and existing paint too, almost like it wanted to crackle but didn't. First time experiencing that. All and all its looking good, still gotta get my roof black too.

Just went back over to the shop I've been working out of to check on things, clean up, and see how the hood looks on the car really quick. Its pretty nice. I went the whole time without getting bugs or debri in my paint, but this stupid rain today managed to leak through his metal roof and drip on my left wing. Might be able to color sand it out, but probably going to need to reclear it after I color sand out the water spots it left.

The bonnet stripes compliment the wheels and flares for sure. Can't wait to get it on the road for a cruise around town. Its going to draw some serious attention.
That's not fair!! Classic Minis are a lot more common here, so they don't draw as much attention as in the states. I take mine out for a drive out in Japan and nobody cares. Small cars are the norm here. I like that attention, it means your driving the RIGHT kind of car. A unique one that is rarely seen on the streets. Standing out is a good thing! 8)
Fixed the water spotted wing today, gotta wait another day or so now before I can color sand and buff. Also started putting some things back on, so its looking like a car again.
Interior is in and putting the exterior back on as well. Threw a couple flares on real quick to take a photo.
I also started to clean up the wheels, cause they have some scuff looking marks on them. Would appear someone tried to clear coat them or something at one time....its peeling. Anyone know if any of those wheel paints look good? I really need to just sand them down and give them a even coating to freshen them up.

Color sanded, buffed and reassembled. Still gotta put the new chrome locking strip in and I forgot to put the wipers on. Bled the clutch and lubed the gas pedal some more, cause it was sticking a little, and she's good to go. Also got some wheel paint and it looks pretty good on the area I tested, so gotta clean up the wheels on the flawed areas a little more and give them a couple coats.

Had to bleed the clutch some more today on my way to the title agency. All fixed up now. I forgot how unpleasant the NC DMV people are. Can't title a car without my NC drivers licence, so drive into town to get that. Can't get an NC drivers licence without a social security card....won't accept any other form of ID. I conveniantly don't have my card anymore. I have to take a drivers exam and show a bunch of other crap. Bastages.

I had a set of wheels painted for my truck, two and a half years later they still look good. Only a couple of chips here and there, my painter said he baked them in the booth for a long time though. Here's a pic, it's for sale!

;D well I know you all been just on the edge of your seat to see me in this mini. I've tried with my banker and they will only loan 1/2 and that was on a $7000.00 one that I could have had. I don't seem to find values for mini's in Kbb or Nada? The banker says because the are (Classic) they consider them a Hobby car so they don't do loans for them. He would loan 1/2. So I'm at a stand still purchasing one and looking more at ordering a few panels for my '75 and patching it up.
If I had the $$ I'd already have a daily driver classic in the garage.
Oh well there will aways be another deal down the road after I hit the lottery.

I did get one loan on a mini years and years ago for my sportpack for 18k. I just had to have it appraised for the bank to be satisfied with its value. You may want to ask your bank about that. OR I could do seller fianancing, seeing how I'm waiting on the title still anyhow. ;)

Well I sent the bank a loan app for a mini cooper just to see for sure what they will do. They first told me verbally 50% of what I asked for. Then they sent me a loan app to fill out and they will take it before the committee?? and see what they say. It's a small bank I guess everyone has to sign off on it :-\ They don't want to have millions tied up in a classic mini I guess? What does this do?

Fixed the windshield wiper motor yesterday. Decided I'd take a look at it by taking the motor out and taking it apart. After putting it back together it now works. Easy fix, lol. Thats the only thing that wasn't working on the car.
And sold! Unless he backs out, lol. Going to a guy in NYC. If all works out I may try and pick up another car up north while I'm delivering this one.
:-\ Ughh... New York. That car will be rusted out in a couple of years considering the salt lick streets!

Kinda depends if he keeps it in his garage when the weather is bad or not. The other car I bought is in CT and rust free.
Just got off the phone with the buyer and he actually bought a garage just for this mini, so its going to a good home it would seem.
