Title: Deep sounding exhaust muffler
Post by: dutchy1978 on March 15, 2013, 05:12:44 AM
Hi,

I am after a deep sounding muffler for my SPI that I am supercharging. Preferably a 2 - 2 1/2 inch in stainless steel.
Can anyone recommend one that has a deep sound?

The following you tube clips are examples of the sound I am after but not sure what brand they are or where to get it.

Cheers,

Those are readily available center exit single-box systems.  Many suppliers have them.  GB Car Parts (out of Florida) carries several like that as well as a center box that splits to two side exits (which I have on mine).

I have a Play Mini muffler with twin 3" tips.  Can't remember what the inlet is..2 3/4" maybe?

I took a video of it awhile back...will see if I'm smaht enough to post here (click on pic for video):

not sure if Play Mini is even around anymore...

Edit:  it is pretty loud inside, fyi...and I have been questioned by the police before about the noise.  Just so's you know.

Thanks guys.

I am hearing Play mini a bit although no one seems to sell hem with the twin DTM pipes anymore.
Fletchers still do and can be obtained from the likes of minisport in the UK.

Keep the opinions coming.

Thanks

Hi Muhen,

Sound great. Not quite as deep as the ones on the clips attached but I guess it so depends on their engine setup.
What engine specs are you running?

1275 .060 over (is that 1340?).  At that time it had a LCB header.  Pretty much stock everything else...cam, twin 1/4 SUs with no air filters (I only drive in clean air).

Here are a couple of the "In Stock" options at GB Car Parts:

DTM Style tipped (http://www.gbcarparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=EX-XT23&cat=50)

What I have - side-exit, one each side (http://www.gbcarparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=ExTwinRound)

This one (http://www.gbcarparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=EX-DTMSS) has the 3" exit tips, but is currently out of stock.  (You can request an email for when back in stock.)
