First off, I need to stick to body work.
Ok, on this 66 Cooper S I bought a new harness as the old one was crap. The first pic is off the steering column. The brown wire is for the horn. The 2nd pic is from the new harness and the only cluster of wires that can possibly go to the column.
DISCUSS.
The only differences between the two is the purple/black wire and the black wire? The purple/black wire goes to the horn, the black wire is usually ground. The other wires should just match up.
Willie_B responded before I could - I was confirming against my orange service manual.
Your old harness colors have faded some.
As stated by Willie_B: the purple/black is the horn in the new harness. Black is a ground.
When I was re-doing my electrical I found this list to be extremely helpful. There are a few that weren't the same in my car but it got me mostly in the ball-park on my Mkiii

I too had some issues doing the column and this list guided me a bit.
Also a nice big wiring diagram: https://www.classicminidiy.com/toolset/electrical
Thanks to Cole over at Classic Mini DIY for that!

Thank you!
There's that green/purple wire that doesn't match too, but maybe these links will sort that out.
